2009-2010 Miami Heat Thread: Race to the Finish

Beasley for Amar'e(and his big contract) would be terrible, enough said. If we do that we're dumb as hell. Beasley is destined to be a 22/10 player in Phoenix, minimum. And it will be egg on the face of an organization that already sucks at developing talent.

As for the win tonight, it was good. Haslem Dorell and JO have been playing good ball lately. Cook was also shooting well tonight. It's good to get some momentum going into the break.

it's good to finally have cook back in games.

I think Beasley has shown enough this season to prove hes going to be a very good player for a long time. Hes just not made for this era. We live in a time where physical players who live above the rim are rewarded, and Beasley is never going to be one. Beasley drives inside and looks to avoid contact and shoot a pretty floating jumper....Amare goes inside, plows through people and hoists up an ugly attempt. Amare shoots 55% and goes to the line, Beasley 46% and rarely is seen on the charity stripe.

Wade not jumping to leave Miami

Well, this was pretty encouraging.

"I think the main thing is I've shown and said that Miami is where I want to be," Wade said. "I wouldn't be jumping in the air to leave Miami anyway. It's a great place to be and they've adopted me there ... I've said it so many times: That's the place I want to build. We just have to get people to come, and if we get people to come, why would I leave?"

Fun Heat facts:

ROUT IS ON: Oddly, the sub-.500 Heat stands at the top of the league at the All-Star break when it comes to lopsided victories. The Heat's four 30-point victories are the most in the NBA this season, followed by three apiece by the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers, and two apiece by the Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Bobcats and Toronto Raptors. Tuesday's 99-66 victory over the visiting Houston Rockets, in fact, marked only the sixth time since the introduction of the shot clock in 1954 that a team scored fewer than 100 points and won by at least 33. The four 30-point victories tie the Heat franchise single-season record, set in 1993-94.

Antoine Walker's bid to resurrect his career, and perhaps keep ahead of his creditors, is taking the former Heat forward to Puerto Rico, where he has signed a one-month tryout contract to play with former NBA player Marcus Fizer with the Guaynabo Mets. Walker, who has not played professionally since the end of the 2008-09 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, is scheduled for a physical Monday, with the team's season opening March 4.

With one more double-double, Michael Beasley will join Heat teammates Udonis Haslem (12), Jermaine O'Neal (12) and Dwyane Wade (11) with double-digit double-doubles this season. Only twice previously has the Heat had four players with double-digit double-doubles: 1993-94 (Rony Seikaly, 34; Grant Long, 10; Glen Rice, 10; and Brian Shaw, 10) and '96-97 ( Alonzo Mourning, 32; Tim Hardaway, 25; P.J. Brown 23; and Ike Austin, 11).

11. Times, due to the lopsided nature of the Heat's results this season, that Dwyane Wade has sat out the entire fourth quarters of games.

"Need further proof that D-Wade isn't going anywhere? Sources tell me that Wade has been actively wooing potential free agents this weekend, selling them on the Heat. We'll spill one bean: A source says the resourceful All-Star has been in the ear of East teammate Chris Bosh about coming to Miami this summer, if he's not traded to the Heat by the 18th, of course. Another source says Wade hasn't had a similar discussion with Amare Stoudemire, who's all but guaranteed to opt out of his contract this summer if he's not traded by the deadline. The source provided one possible explanation: most everyone, the All-Star participants included, believes Stoudemire will be dealt before the deadline."

Don't you think Beas is trying to work on that physical aspect of his game? I've noticed him driving more aggressively lately, except only to get called for repeated offensive fouls(some of which looked suspect to me.) He just isn't getting respect from officials yet.

He does drive to the bucket more often than he used to. The thing is how often do you see him drive and dunk the ball, and how often do you see him drive and shoot that bank shot he likes, or a little runner? I think its partially his attitude, but more that he simply lacks the explosiveness. When Amare gathers in the offensive board under the basket he powers up and throws down a dunk....Beasley tries to get a quick layup.

I see Beasley and think Antawn Jamison. Great third option, not a star.

he was clutch tonight - great last second steal and 2 made free throws - the rest of his numbers were gravy

Now only if he hit those last 2 FT's of Heat games LOL. Hopefully cooks shooting and wade's great game leads to a +5 game over .500 mark for the second half. Who else thought Lebron was going to get the vote? even though wade owned the game.

If only he could start making them clutch FTs when the games count. :ponder:

Congrats to Wade.
