Are we going back to being a "boring" team ?

if boring means producing more wins, then im all for it

took the words right out of my mouth... If boring means a running, smashmouth type offense, then yes, we will be boring, but if it gets us wins, just like Rocky said to Mr. T, GO FOR IT!

I think you have it. The results will determine how people feel about it. I just find it interesting we're hearing this near-unanimous high opinion of running the ball a ton, but I know for a fact that not many people will be able to stomach it once it actually starts happening. We're pretty set to be a bad football team. An improving football team, but still a bad one. How many fans actually think they can stomach an offense that runs the ball 50-55 percent of the time, while losing games?

It reminds me of how, after I want to say maybe 4 or 5 games last year, I started pointing out that if the trend continues and we go 1-15 then Mueller and Cameron would probably be fired...and there were a ton of people that thought it preposterous to fire them after only one year of the rebuilding project, even if they only won one game. I was trying to tell them, you're underestimating the pain of the losses to come. You're underestimating how much the atmosphere changes with every little piece of non-success. Sure enough, after we go 1-15, I'm still convinced Mueller should be fired but thought Cameron showed a few things that make me want to give him a second chance, and meanwhile all those same people that thought it preposterous to fire Cameron and Randy after only one year, were the ones now arguing with me on the other side of the fence, drinking the Parcells kool-aid and saying Cameron should be fired.

Don't underestimate the pain of losses and what it does to everyone, the fanbase, media, players, coaches, etc. People talking now so excitedly about power running, ball control, etc...some of them are going to change their minds when they see that kind of stuff in action on a bad team.

I wonder if Parcells wasn't available if Cam would have been canned.

I think BP was a target of opportunity, one that we just couldnt pass up, even though it likely meant Cam and Randy would be casualties.

funny how Parcells was desinted to go to Atlanta, and then Wayne stepped in with his phat paychecks and bought Parcells

I concur, in the end, my perception of Cameron was that offensively we were seeing some positive things, which you expected from him as a touted OC who had been successful in that role, but, that as a head coach, he was weighed, measured and found lacking in certain departments, namely, his ability to keep the lockerroom together and the lack of respect towards him we witnessed by some players.

I came away from one season of Cameron feeling like he was an OC best suited to that role, so change was neccesary.

Contrary to everyone's belief that we will be a heavy running team, I think we will be more balanced this year than last.

Henning likes to throw to his TEs and FBs alot, even taking shots downfield.

Bringing in Fasano was alot more important to our O than many people may realize.

Keep in mind, Henning is a disciple of Coryell (indirectly through Joe Gibbs.) As was posted earlier, we will likely use the run to set up the pass (as we should), and take what our opponents D is giving us.

There are times to run and times not to. Running the ball just for the sake of running it is ridiculous. Why run into a stacked box when the D is giving you open receivers? On the other hand, why are you trying to throw the ball on 3rd and short when Ronnie is averaging over 5 yards per carry? (Or running on second and inches to get the first down, when you basically have a free play downfield?)

I think Sparano and Henning will call a smart game for us this year, and I think it will make a big difference.

keep in mind that that we lost a lot of games because we couldnt throw the darn ball . I think its very important to be able to pass the ball and catch it. its not hard to stop a teams running game when you cant pass the ball so i think the right ratio should be a 60 % pass and 40 % run or 55 % run .
the funny thing is when wanny was here we ran the ball 90 % and turned over the ball 10 % of the time.

yep.

pretty much back to wanny ball.

i love parcells ability to "turn things around". and he does!

but one thing that has scared me about parcells is his lack of
interest in BIG TIME play makers, expecially wr's!!

he loves the cloud of dust offense with tough, keep it to
17 point games. but those only get you so far.

bill will take a good te over a pro bowl wr ANY day.

you have to be BALANCED on offense. ther comes a time when you
HAVE to throw and if a team is stopping you running and you cant
get anything going in the air, its over!

this is where a T.O. or a randy moss comes in handy. if you have
a team dedicating all there offense to the run, you usually have only
2 wr's on the field. in that case, you better have a wr who can get
open and go the distance. you cant have journeyman types in a run
first offense.

if your theory is to go 3 wide when the run isnt working, that tells
the defenses that your going to pass. to predictable!!

we dont have a lawrence taylor or that late 80's defense of the
giants. few do. few have. these days, you HAVE TO SCORE POINTS!

and you need a big time wr to do it. expecially in a 2 wide, cloud of
dust offense.

parcells HATED terry glenn. it caused him to leave the pats.

h hated t/o coming to dallas. and he really hasnt had a history
of taking big name, big game wr's with his other teams.

and he is CLEARLY not after anything special now at the wr
position.

this scares me about bill. but maybe he is true to his word about
letting his coaches coach and our o/c will mix in an effective
pass game.

if you see tony sparano growing a big pornstache, we will have our answer
as to what kind of offense we are going to have. :)

I don't care if watching the grass grow in the endzone is more exciting than the offense, as long as they score more points than the opposing team at the gun in the 4th.

Our offense can't and won't be boring. With the best o-line we have had in decades and 2 good backs that can look for contact or take it to the house on any given play it's impossible to be totally boring. BTW did you guys know that every year in Dallas Bill had a QB that threw for over 3,000 yards and his first year was with Quincy Carter. Don't think Ted Ginn, Fasano, and our new possesion WR Wilford won't get any opportunities and that we won't throw to 2 of the best handed HB's in the league out of the back feild. No, we will be far from one dimensional and boring IMO.

Wanny was a run the ball and reserve the right the punt. Ugh

Gotta score some points somehow.

This is also what I am scared of, becoming the "Wannstedt Dolphins" again. Please Bill, don't do it :shakeno:

If boring means winning then bring it on. Pounding the pigskin and playing sound defense maybe boring to some people but I love it. Lining up and saying my SOB's are tougher then your SOB's and proving it sounds like a great team to watch.

I think what I fear the most is we become a "very good" defense again, without a good offense, and win just enough to challenge for a division or win it, and then bow out of the playoffs because we can't score points in the playoffs.

With the Cowboys Bill had 3 QB's in 3 years and all of them threw for over 3,000 yards. We have 2 of the best receiving HB's in football and some of the best pulling o-lineman in the NFL now IMO to get out on screens and dump off passes. We will not be boring. Remember the 3rd part of football is ST's and we got alot of specialest to block for Ginn whom faired pretty well last year with the worst ST players in the NFL out there with him. Every time we recieve a punt or KO will be exciting. Not to mention getting the ball in Ginns hands on quick slats and playaction passes which with his abilities could be a gamebreaker on any given play.

Maybe I didn't make the 2nd part of my post clear enough, and was actually the main part of my post....

Do you think this is the offense of the future (in other words remain a run oriented team long term) or is this just being done to set up a more open future offense ?
