Areas That Mike McDaniel Needs to Improve in Year Two with the Miami Dolphins

Miami was #1 in league in total penalties (144) last year.

— 22 total False Starts - ranked 21st
— 15 total Offensive Holding - ranked 5th - Rob Hunt (4)
— 8 total Delay of Game - ranked 25th

Miami had the fourth highest amount of Pre-snap penalties (46)
Not trying to be an ass but article said we were 3rd worst in delay of games:

The Dolphins tied for the 3rd most delay-of-game penalties in the NFL for 2022 and too often the offense was rushing to get to the line of scrimmage and get the football snapped. It cost them dearly in the Wildcard contest against the Bills. What would have been a 4th & 1 (65.5% conversion rate) with 2:34 on the game clock turned into a 4 & 6 (43.1% conversion rate). With Miami only being down by a field goal, they had the opportunity to take a lead and win the game on this drive. Instead, they failed to convert and lost by three points to the Buffalo Bills (gross).”

People on Finheaven get mad at me but….

McD is a 9-7 coach - forgivable for a first year coach.

But he’s not done JACK!

So until he does he’s a 9-7 coach.

Hoping he gets over himself and wins a playoff game.

So far I don’t see it - but hell I’ve been thru Cam Cameron and Flores and Pornstache and Jokey Johnson! So whatevs…

Hoping McD is not another head coach flunkie - jury’s out right now!
It's a relief to hear he has not "done Jack".
By the way, who is Jack? - LOL

I understand you don't want the same guy doing overall game management AND calling plays.

I doubt that is an option here for the time being, irrespective of who is the OC. Your post said you wanted him to hire a "capable" OC. I was just pointing out that that is not really what you want. You want him to give up either the play calling duties or the HC duties. I'm saying that is not realistic at this time.
Then when?

Lol, nothing wrong with Fossil watches!

I think many believe (not sure why) that VF will come in and be some kind of "mentor" to McD.

Personally, I question the dynamics of such a situation and don't think it will be the case. I'm sure VF will offer advice/suggestions in game planning throughout the week, but GameDay?

Can't see the mechanics or wisdom of that.
I suspect you have 20-200 vision.
Of course, I'm a Homer. - LOL

I think you found a place where we have "room for improvement". - LOL

Agreed. I think it's to our detriment to not have McD making the calls. However, he needs to re-allocate some of his typical sideline responsibilities to allow for that. He of course knows this and will be working towards the same goal.

Good article.

I have to admit that I was bugged by giving/rewarding the players with six OTA'S when it could have been 10. Maybe I'm overblowning that, but I don't like how it looks. Plus, this team has a lot to work on, like clock management, the screen game, short-yardage running.

I do think McDaniel has the pulse of the team so I'll leave it there.

He's certainly unique and a breath of fresh air. I hope it all comes together for him and that McDaniel is successful for a long time in Miami.

I agree with getting the plays called in faster, that was frustrating last year. But I expect we'll see improvement in Coach McDaniel has a HC, or we hope so.

Agree. Those late play calls cost penalties, TOs, and motion penalties.
I've said a couple of times, in close games HC/OCs can win/lose a game. The playoff game is exhibit A. No, Mcd wasn't the ONLY problem, but those late play calls killed drives.
I also hope he learns to 'take what the D gives you.'
