Armando Salguero Suggests We're Going from Bad to Worse

This would be the "bean-counter" type mentioned in another thread. I don't want that. I want a talent evaluator....Aponte would be a nightmare!

3). Aponte: Do not underestimate her ability to work the system and climb the ladder. She came to the Dolphins as a cap specialist and has ascended to Executive VP of Football Administration. She also bonded with coach Joe Philbin and is one of if not his primary advisor. One of her known goals is to be an NFL general manager. If Ireland is dismissed, she will likely want the job. And although she has zero experience in personnel evaluation, she'll argue she can do the job with the assistance of a savvy talent evaluator at her side -- someone like Gaine. Aponte's name is also being floated around the league office for a possible position there. She worked at the league office for three years. Before that she worked for the Cleveland Browns for a year and the New York Jets for 15 years. She is close with, you guessed it, Mangini -- the former head coach in Cleveland and the Jets.

I can see this happening. Joe gets more power over the roster and Ross can look like a 21st century Branch Rickey. Best of both worlds for Ross. Keep Joe and look like he is breaking some barrier in sports.

I don't like the idea of a Financial guru with no player evaluation experience heading this team. Let the money people handle the money let the talent people handle the talent.

Promote Sherman to GM (the dude did recruit a lot of talent while at A&M) and find a good young offensive coordinator to replace him. Two birds, one stone.

Oh, dear lord... On the plus side, normally I require a lot of alcohol to induce vomiting. At least now I don't need to waste money on alcohol.

Names Salguero thinks are likely to be strongly considered if changes are made:

Eric Mangini
Scott Pioli
Mike Tannenbaum

I'm not sure how much of this is a last ditch attempt to help his boy Jeff Ireland by putting the fear of God into the Dolphins fanbase to the point that we'd gladly take Ireland over the 'even worse' scenarios he presents here, but I absolutely want to vomit right now.

I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading somewhere that Mangini consulted with Ross in the past. Not sure if that is correct or where the relationship stands at the moment, but could be interesting if Ross does make a change.

I do agree with you but let's face it she couldn't do much worse than our current GM.

Eric Mangini or Mike Tannenbaum would pretty much drive me over the edge as a fan. I don't think I could deal with that.

Missing the Playoffs after beating New England at Home, first time in a long time, and of course the perfect collapse, get shut out by Buffalo, and losing to the Geno/Jets at Home drove me over the edge. Get somebody in here who knows how to Win.

"It's our time" Ha maybe next year, wait I said that the last 5 years...

The ONLY decent players he drafted in Green Bay -- in four drafts -- were Aaron Kampman, Javon Walker, and Nick Barnett.

No. Thank. You.

Mangini, who works as an analyst for ESPN, chats regularly with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday, citing multiple sources.

The newspaper reported that Ross and Mangini talk on a "fairly regular basis." Ross reportedly respects Mangini's opinion of the Dolphins, but the former coach is not viewed as a coaching candidate if Tony Sparano fails to survive the team's shaky 0-5 start.

E. Manginisesame

Eric Mangini denied last week that he was contacted by the Eagles for a consulting gig. It will be interesting to see if he denies the latest report out of the Miami Herald.

Armando Salguero reports that Mangini regularly talks to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, giving feedback about the state of the team. Mangini also reportedly had a meeting scheduled with Miami last January about a consultant job.

Salguero writes repeatedly that Mangini is not and will not be a candidate to coach in Miami, going as far as to capitalize NOT. But his relationship with Ross, which started when Mangini was with the Jets, begs further questions.

Is Mangini being paid for his consulting? If so, isn’t that a conflict of interest with his current job at ESPN? If he’s not being paid, then what exactly is going on here?

Mangini has done a nice job at ESPN, but this makes you wonder how long he’ll stay out of football. A man can only take sitting next to Skip Bayless so long.

I don't like Mangini and don't want him here.

What about Mike Zimmer? We interviewed him previously. Why don't we offer him a HC position? It's not like your HC has to be an offensive guru...that's not the job of a head coach. (Shula started out as a defensive assistant, and so did Jimmy Johnson)/ There's nothing wrong with that. He knows what he's doing.
