Around the Preseason: Performances of players you liked/wanted on the Dolphins

It would be a lot less depressing if you identified players that are borderline on a roster, but talented enough to play in the league. We are naming players that will not be on the Dolphin roster period. What about young improving players that are at a deep posltion but could play in the league.

every time we try to do that and think someones gonna get released that can play in a numbers crunch at a position the team ends up keeping the guys cause they're one of their best 53...happens all the time...te's with green bay last year...i would have sworn they would cut someone...nope

i'll throw you a bone this way though...i have to only still watch russell wilson and matt flynn from seattle to see if flynn was as bad as everyone made him out to be and i'll have seen all the rookie qbs first 2 games minus luck still to come and i feel really confident that we have the 2nd best pro qb in this class...it's early but tannehill has shown me the most outside of luck

brandon weeden should have 4 ints in 2 games and he can't escape pressure to save his life...rg3's playing a college or backyard game in pro football...

rg3 trying to play houdini against pressure last night...kid better learn...he took some hard hits thinking that he could play the same game he played in college...he's also got a lot of run mentality to him...bailing the pocket too early...that body can't take but so much contact

Dude is going to average a fumble a game. If he starts throwing INTs..... well. RG3 ****ing blows. If you like taking a bunch of sacks, fumbling, and in return getting a few impressive plays that you dont see often you will love RG3. He is definately not a formula for success though.

Take note of the trajectory on some of his throws too. Just not good.

exactly...he'll bang you for some big plays with that arm and vertical accuracy but he's also gonna set you back taking sacks cause he thinks he can play a backyard game in the pocket in pro football against pressure...and when he does scramble he's got the ball in one hand...backside hit and fumble waiting to happen...and he's got a lot of run first mentality...injury waiting to happen...

good luck winning consistently in this league like that...a slighter bigger version of mike vick but with more bail tendencies...just wait til he starts taking all those hits and it starts wearing on him...just like mike vick now

Vick is one of the most overrated players ever just because he had the ability to make people say WOW on occasion. RG3 will do that too. But, the problem is going to come from all of the negative plays. The sacks. The fumbles. Turnovers galore. You cant win like that. Every coach will tell you that turnover margin is HUGE. A lot of people will tell you its the biggest factor in winning and losing games in the NFL. With that being the case, why draft a guy and play him at QB, when he is a turnover machine?

If this guy has just one INT per game he is going to wind up turning it over twice a game. Thats going to be a huge factor. Sacks are so huge too because they put you in almost impossible down and distance scenarios. RG3s hands are so small. Its bad enough as it is, but he compounds it by the way he holds the ball when he is trying to run all over the place in the backfield looking to throw downfield. Occasionally, he is going to find some room to operate, locate a wide open receiver because it has been 5 seconds since the snap, and hit on a big play. But, he is going to turn the ball over for every one of those plays he makes. Not a recipe for success.

An NFL QB needs to move WITHIN the pocket and buy time that way. If he cant buy time, the ball needs to come out. You either throw the thing away of find a place you can fit it without throwing a pick. Thats how its done. You cant just run around behind the LOS all the time. Defenders are way too fast in the NFL. For every 30 yard run you break off or every 40 yard pass play you find after the ball had been snapped 5 seconds ago there is a sack or a turnover to match it.

ryan tannehills problem is the wr core...watching the tape he doesn't get much help...case in point pa rollout carried out beautifully tanny rolls right roberto wallace is wide runs a deep comeback a good wr can drive on the corner and sell the vertical forcing the db to come out of his pedal open his hips and bail on that play wallace never gets the db to respect the vertical gears down and comes back with the db in his shorts incomplete...if wallace was worth a hoot that's an easy pitch and catch off of that action

Ya, I noticed that about RG3's throws too ..... downright ugly if you ask me. Every time I see him I keep wondering what the big fuss is all about.

Not to mention the fact that he may just say to Hell with it after he takes enough of those hits and retire.

LMAO @ Redskins. They invested a TON into a guy that is going to lead you to mediocrity year in and year out no matter how much talent you have on the rest of the team. That style of play takes over the whole game. Days when he makes more of those big plays than he does the negative ones, you can beat teams. On opposite days, you will get beaten no matter who youre playing. On days it evens out.... its a toss up. Thats how you spell mediocrity.

But, he will get a ton of hype by ESPN and fans just because he makes jaw dropping plays sometimes.

After we won a couple of games, I am SO GLAD we won a few more. It was Luck or bust. We really dodged a bullet by not being in position to draft RG3. Cause you know Ireland was dumb enough to do it even if the Redskins wouldve offered him all of those picks to move up. If I knew we wouldve taken the picks in trade, I wouldve loved to been in that spot. But, the thought of us having RG3 at QB is a ****ing nightmare. I seriously wouldve just given up.

Or start a lucrative dog fighting empire.
One thing CK kept pointing out in the draft buildup was that the guy just wants to do too much with his life still. You would feel a little better about taking him if you were sure he was 100% committed to football but you can't know that.

Specifically the things to worry about with RG3 would be:

1. In 4 years is he going to come to his team and tell them he wants to spend the off season training for the Olympics instead of the upcoming season
2. Will he secretly be prepping his body for that even a year ahead of time?
3. Will he come up to the coaching staff any time in the next 3 years telling them he wants to attend law school while being an NFL QB?
4. If his career is going swimmingly, will he bust your balls over his contract extension or make unexpected decisions about wanting to play elsewhere?

The 400m hurdles is a crash and burn race. Absolutely brutal to prepare for and form seldom holds. Only if you really keep your strides to a consistent minimum is an Edwin Moses or Angelo Taylor career available. In the semis you might cruise effortlessly over every hurdle in rapid time, then fall apart and chop your steps prior to every late hurdle during the finals. That scenario plays out all the time. Guys wobble home and sprawl across the finish line. Notice there isn't an 800m hurdles race, or anything beyond that. 400 meters is stretching it. I have as much respect for those athletes as any Olympians.

I'll stick with my summaries of Robert Griffin posted early last spring but one thing I never worried about was off the field options. Griffin showed great promise as a high school hurdler but he's years behind the specialists and his times basically suggested a semifinal caliber athlete, not medal contender. In four years he'll be further removed and the recipient of hundreds of hits to the legs. It's always convenient to project crossover greatness for a football player but most often it's laughable. I watched John Elway play baseball at Stanford. He was a rightfielder who removed his cap and ran his fingers through his hair after literally every pitch. Perhaps the 7th best player on their team, albeit the top groomer.

The greatest hilarity of all is the NFL players who asserted a year or two ago that they wanted a piece of Usain Bolt. I notice that has quieted lately. The term "world class speed" is ridiculously abused by commentators, tossed around like a piece of candy. Watch the Olympics or the Trials and the gap is startling. Guys who are blurs on the football field struggle to get out of the first round of heats. They never earn a call in the race.

The 110m hurdles option is even more unlikely for Griffin. That event is improving all the time, stacked with young talent, and Aries Merritt is not yet in his prime. Besides, Griffin's hand timed 13.3 was dubious and wind aided. He'd have considerably more opportunity in the 400m, due to the uncertain aspect of the race that I mentioned in the lead. You might be 6th best with two hurdles to clear and inherit 3rd place and the final Olympic berth via pratfalls in front of you.

Granted, Robert Griffin has enough ego to defy logic and waste time. It's the reason I prefer handicapping outcomes, not opinions.

want some comedic relief??? watch kevin kolbs play in the pocket against the raiders...god that guys GARBAGE
