BREAKING NEWS: "Williams ordered to PAY BACK 8.6 Million."

I am really confused on this. I am sorry if I sound like a broken record, but what is this about losing his rights? Frankly, I would rather have his rights then the money(we can get draft picks for him). At the same time though, it will be good to use that money on McMichael and next year on some FA's signing bonus. Maybe next year we won't miss out on some big FA names like Tait last year.

That's the best post i've read on any website in my entire life

I'm not an attorney, but I'm not so sure about this. I would agree that the NFL might not have anything to do with how the bankrupty is dealt with. But, I would have to assume that they would have a lot to do with how his rights are handled.
Jim Fierberg (the attny in the Herald article that called Williams strategy "brilliant") just called in to the Jeff Ricker show on sporting news radio and explained everything. To make a long explaination short... if ricky files chp 7 bk we'll get probably nothing and lose his rights. He said chp 11 is would be a lot harder for RW to file. He went on to say the NFL would have no say... Bankruptcy is the same no matter how you slice it... it's the law and the NFL can't change that.

So in the end, Ricky will probably screw us again and we will get nothing out of him.

Ricky Williams F-'d over the team. The team had built in his contract certain provisions to protect themselves from the aloof wack-o. He went wacky, thinking he can take the money and run.

If they didn't cover themselves we'd have several complaining that we left ourselves open.

He hurt this team immensely - he has cost us four spots / positions (two first round draft positions, a fourth rounder, and a starting RB spot). Even dope smokin' wacko's will have to be accountable now and then.

I wonder how far Lenny Kravitz and Snoop Dogg will carry him, when he's no longer a football star and doesn't have any money to hang? Without football, without the cash - he's not much.

And in Florida they cannot seize your main house or your main car. Other than that - it's up for grabs. He's got more than one place to live... but he's not going to be able to afford it.

And he keeps getting quoted about his three kids.... Wow - what an active Dad,... I'm sure he takes part in raising them from his tent in Austrailia.

This loser is getting everything he deserves. May he never wear another Dolphins Unfirom nor another NFL uniform again.

PS (I know it will only be a matter of time before he runs out of money... then goes to the media saying he was off his medication. He'll be on Oprah again, speaking on behalf of mental illness - and dissing the Dolphins for sueing him when they should have realized he had a mental condition and was not responsible for anything he did)

I still dont believe it

If you could just file for bankrupcy and get outta your contract and become a free agent, why the heck isnt every disgruntled NFL player doing it?

Did the geniuses (Cole  Armando) at the Herald discuss the possibililty of COMPENSATORY DRAFT PICKS if Ricky was granted Free Agent status?

I take it from the responses in this thread that they were suggesting that Ricky could become a Free Agent by filing bankruptcy (weak case).

If therefore Ricky is granted Free Agency...then the Dolphins should be granted Compensatory Draft Picks as negotiated by the current collective bargaining agreement.

We should at the very least get a 1st and a third round pick as compensatory draft picks...should we not? :cooldude:

The LAW has no say what so ever in matters regarding Player Rights in the NFL.....It is called a collective bargaining agreement...that was agreed too and is the law of the NFL land.....That Ambulance chaser is as wrong as the rest of them....

The NFL has rules....they govern by their rules....

Because their not in sh1t this deep!! And probably don't have the need for that much legal service.

It's real simple, Miami won't go for the money, they'll just keep ricky's rights.

Bankruptsy isn't just cut and dried. You can't file if you are able to pay your debts. Ricky owns a lot of things, and those things can be sold to pay debt. You also can't get away with just selling stuff off before filing, and then claiming you don't have any money or any assets.

We'll see how this whole thing works out, but Ricky is not in the clear here at all.

Whilke you have evry right to bash him for what he's done as far as the team, I think questioning his parenting skills might be a bit out of line

I for one think he is going to file Chapter 7. He does not have the liquid assets to pay off the 8+ million. When he does, he becomes a FA and we lose his rights. Yep, Ricky bent us over. Plain and simple. But now we have to get past it and learn never to acquire a head case. He's the laughing stock of the NFL.

SO F RICKY AND LETS CONCENTRATE ON WINNING A GAME!!!!

:peace:

Pretty much... they're talking to Reggie Roby's old agent now... he said they did the exact same thing... His agent said he was in a lot of debt and by doing this it wiped out his debt and gave him a fresh start in washington.

The only reason alot of players don't do this is because chp 7 bk really f's up your credit.. that and not all players are complete douchebags like Ricky Williams is.

excuse me?? First of all, I am no religious nut per say, but 3 kids out of wedlock is nothing to brag about to begin with. Second, who the hell thinks a guy who runs around the world and smokes pot is a parental roll model
