Coolest Dolphin Player

I met Paul Warfield at the Fort Lauderdale Mall at a autograph signing and he seemed pretty cool.

Hey how about holloween in Madison, you should all try that. A little off topic but its basically for the guy who goes to Madison.

From the few seconds I was with McMike, he was a true *******. Me and my friend were at a mall down here in South Florida. We were just walking around when we noticed him waiting for his wife to come out of a store. We walked up to him and were like "Hey man, you played a great game last week!" and he responded "****, I know I did." He didn't say it in a joking tone, more like a ****y, conceited tone. It wasn't even like we were bothering him when he was with his girl, he was just sitting there looking lonely and ****. We didn't feel like talking to him after that so we just walked away, after giving him the "What?" look.

what bout McMichael?

I've met McMichael and Seau in person and they are both great guys. Randy has an amazing sense of humor. He'll talk to you like he's known you all of his life. Junior introduced himself (like he really needs an introduction) and reached out to shake my hand before I even extended mine. Other than those two, the great Don Shula was a super cool guy when I met him. Again, he spoke to me first (at the pumps at a gas station). Most "famous" people couldn't be bothered but these three seemed very humble and nice.

For me the coolest was Dan the Man. I bartended a party at his house like 8 years ago. It was his wife's party all her family and friends. He pretty much just hung out at the bar talking to me and smoking cigars. Asked me to stay an extra 2 hours gave me a cuban and $200 extra.
I called my wife from his house and it actually said Dan Marino on the caller ID. I saved it for like 5 years.

Well I have met no NFL players. But I really enjoyed every one of your stories. Great thread. you guys are sooooo lucky. I have a Marino autographed jersey. Asked my wife, who was going to FLA to pick me up a jersey, because back then I couldn't find one here in Nova Scotia (jeeeese). She came back and said "I hope this is ok, it has his autograph on it." I hyperventilated. But I can't be sure its' real. I take care of it, never wear it, but I wish I knew for sure. She got it from some charity auction / sale of things that were left after a TV station sold stuff, which really makes me suspicious. They said there were a bunch that sold, but they had so many, that some were left. How could a Marino jersey (even if there were a bunch that went on sale that day) be left? There's a little "certificate of authenticity" but I could make one of those on my printer. Oh well, she didn't pay any more than you'd pay for a regular jersey here.
Sigh. Maybe someday I'll get down there with my new Marino jersey and meet him and get a signature and an experience like you guys.
Thanks for the stories!

I work at an Atlantic City Casino. Nobody is cooler than ex-Dolphin Jay Fiedler. I started a thread last week about the first time I met him. He came over to me and introduced himself, because someone told him I was a Dolphin fan. He plays on my dice game all the time, tips good, hangs out with his boys. You would never know he was a football player.

I have also dealt to Jimmy Johnson, he partied hard on the eve of the NFC championship game last year. The next day I swore he looked hung over on TV.

I was briefly on a game where Marino, John Elway, and Bernie Kosar were playing. They were very cool with us, but they had security guards keeping the general public away.

Dealt to Jaworski a bunch of times, (wasn't he a dolphin?). He loves to talk about football at any time. Very cool...

Pat Riley is also a great guy. I had him and a bunch of Heat players on my game one night after they played the sixers.

WOW you guys have really met some stars. I've met some old Pats, I know who cares, here's my take.
Matt Bahr = Decent guy
Vincent Brown = Really cool guy, easy to chat with
Doug Flutie = Arrogant prick, can't be bothered
Drew Bledsoe = Can't be bothered
Irving Fryar = Didn't say 2 words to me while signing an autograph
Raymond Berry = Sat and talked to him for awhile, really nice guy
Steve Grogan = Very nice guy as well

Met Josh McCown in Buffalo and he went out of his way to come over and meet my buddy, who was decked out in Cardinals garb, in pre game warmups. Thought that was cool.

All time favorite= Sam Gash, super nice guy who talked with me for quite awhile despite the fact that I was wearing a Dan Marino jersey one week after we beat NE and won the AFCE. He guarenteed to me that SD would beat Miami in the playoffs. We won 31-0, but I never saw Sam again.

I was also about to lay into Matt Burkes wife, he was a TE for the Patriots, when she knocked down 5 or 6 yogurts from my dairy ailse and just kept walking, I used to work in a Super Market, and bit my tongue when I saw the 6'5" TE come around the corner.

I saw the great Tedy Bruschi at JC Penney but didn't bother him. He was obviously trying to keep a low profile.

That's it

Biggest jerk I ever met on the Dolphins: Mean Joe Greene. Was at the '95 Super Bowl in Miami (SFran vs. SD), walking through the concourse when I spotted him. Greene was our D-line coach at the time. Asked him to sign a football. He walked away without even looking or acknoledging. No one elese was asking for an autograph. I made a sracastic comment to my friend like "what a great guy". Dude stops in his tracks, turns around and comes up on me with a big scowl on his face! Finally one of his buddies pulls him back and they walk away. What a first class idiot. So glad teh Dolphins denied them a couple more Super Bowls in the early 70's. Ha, No thanks Mean Joe!

Also coolest Heat player D Wade. Nicest superstar athlete I've ever met. Very humble hasn't got to his head one bit.

Zo Mourning #@#@head rude *** can be. This was pre-kidney transplant maybe he has gotten better. I met him several times and every time he was a jerk.

Jason Taylor is very cool also. Tim Bowens is scary as hell. Met him at a club and he was just the biggest thickest person I have seen and didn't even respond to my hello.

.

Funny you mention Zo.....

Was eating breakfast at an Original Pancake House and Zo was sitting alone at a booth just across from my girlfriend and I. A parent sent his lil boy over who was wearing a Alonzo Heat jersey with a little pad and paper. The kid was obviously nervous and a few tables were watching the kid walk towards the Zo's table only to turn around and run back to his parents 2 times.

Kid finally got up the nerve the third time, approached Zo and asked "Mr. Mourning can I have your autograph?"

Zo was reading a paper at the time and threw it down on the table. He then asked the kid in a demeaning tone, "Do I come to your house and bother you while your eating breakfast kid?" He followed it up with a heartwarming scowl.

The kid turned around and ran back to his parents of course crying.

I had been there the whole time he had and no one had approached him at all until the little kid did so it's not like he was tired of being "harrassed" or anything.

Ever since that day I've always thought of him as a first class heel.

He does have his charity for kids down here now so maybe he's changed a little.

Thats really too bad.
The nicest NBA player I ever met was Nick Van Exel, my favorite player at the time, in 1996 when I was about 9 years old and he was on the Lakers. Really really nice dude. Me, him, and my dad chatted for about 10 minutes about how they just picked up Shaq and how he couldnt wait to play with him. And Nick kept telling me how good this kid out high school was going to be after working out with him. That kid turned out to be Kobe Bryant. I guess he was right.

Nicest NBA stars I've ever met would have to be David Robinson, Tim Duncan and Avery Johnson (while he was still a Spur) without a doubt. Popovich (HC of the Spurs) was a very nice guy as well.

i was staying in the phins hotel the night before the carolina game and reggie howard came down and talked to dolphins fans and signed autographes for like 2 hours. also, channing crowder was really nice.
