I'm shocked the golf story hasn't blown up in the media the past two days, after it surfaced. I expected us to be crucified for those details, and for local and national reporters to press the story and find out how much Philbin knew at the time.

Or how much did Ross know? That may be the more interesting question.

I still don't see how we escape that story. Cover ups can take down regimes swiftly and without disagreement. It's among the handful of most disgusting things I've ever learned about the organization. Anyone who knew about it and tried to sweep it away should be in jeopardy, assuming the base facts are corroborated.

In my wildest dreams, never in my life have I ever heard of a player walking out on his team, condemning the entire organization, the coach , staff and player(s) and gaining national attention.

If you'd ask me, I'd swear it was the WWF National Wrestling, or whatever its called, but good, its so sad our media in this country is so corrupt in sensationalism, and that includes Warren Sapp, a byproduct of the Miami area.

Go Joe Philbin, I back you up and you are a good man, not a baby sitter of men.

Well.....The media decides who is villaized and who is lionized. I think ESPN has lots of introspection to do.

Joe has done nothing and keeping him will allow the story to fester. He will not survive.

Struck me the same way, the way he kept pushing it off, and even as it escalated, saying he was busy doing his job, and also throwing out a comment that he didn't watch any of the hard knocks so he didn't see certain stuff...that's not what you say as a head coach. Like you said, if he wants to compartmentalize, fine, then you'd better cover your butt with a great staff.

O-Line: There was no real effort to upgrade the o-line this season, and the result is 30-some sacks in the first 7 games. Ireland brings in McKinnie to take Martin's place, and there's an improvement. Incognito goes out, Garner takes over along with the occasional addition of Yeatman and there's an improvement.

The problem? Philbin/Sherman refused to make personnel (and/or scheme) changes week after week, saying that they "believed" in their starters. The bye week would have been the perfect time to bring in McKinnie, but Ireland didn't budge. Here's the interesting part; Ireland and Philbin/Sherman did nothing to help the o-line until AFTER their meeting with Ross. So, we have a GM and a coaching staff that stood idly by and watched their young QB get pounded week after week, but it took threats from the owner for them to actually do something about the problem? I would fire everyone just for this alone!

I see the same thing.

  1. Wallace is not involved until he starts screaming.
  2. The Dolphins make headline news because we're going to set a record for most sacks, and they still do nothing.
  3. Bi-Week, nothing is done.
  4. Nothing done about Incognito, and now that there are 2 linemen out, we're inexplicably blocking better.

There's just nothing more critical in football than Player Management, and making adjustments as you go. Nothing. This all speaks to coaching.
 
I don't like Hyde, actually, but this part I agree with:

Incognito, in his own way, is as much a victim in this story as Martin. Putting him in charge of any player, much less this entire locker room, was like putting an alcoholic at the bar. It fed the very demons he needed to subdue. He tried to help others when he mainly needed to keep helping himself

Coaches know their players. And there's layers of staff feeding Philbin information on a daily basis. You've got the O line coach, the O coordinator, and other position coaches like QB coach who would have been close to the action. It's just a matter of managing the players you have and putting them in a position to succeed. Hyde is right. Jake Long was the leader on that line, and Bush was also a leader, and we let both go. Incognito's out on an island by himself, getting drunk, and running into trouble. A woman files a police report at a Dolphin-sponsored event. Still, no help for Incognito, no help for Martin.

I have no problem with Ireland getting fired based on his drafts alone but I don't want to see Philbin fired unless facts show in the end that he was made aware of the problem and didn't do anything to stop it. He deserves more time and changing coaching staffs, schemes, terminology is only going to set this team back further. I really hope he survives this firestorm and investigation clears him of any wrongdoing.
