Dealing Wake in the off-season....

they trade away wake for a draft pick that YOU KNOW will fail, Ireland cant draft worth crap. not worth it

What makes you think that Vernon is benefitting from Wake being constantly double teamed? Vernon alone would be a terrible pass rusher, but since hes the guy every team leave alone on one on one he will eventually get a few sacks.

Cameron wake is the reason why Oliver Vernon has 10 sacks

IMO you keep Wake until he retires and then you hire him on your coaching staff so he can teach all future players his awesome technique. That way we can be successful at D-End for a very long time.

these type of moves always bites us. let him play till he retires. shows young players this a good place to be for your whole career.

Even though I suggested the idea I wouldn't take anything other then a 1st....again it has add value to the team. I wouldn't let him go for a late second or worse, but if someone wanted to part ways for a 1st....with the depth at the DE position on the roster....why not consider it?

Who is to say anyone we draft in the First Round will be any better then Wake? Dion Jordan was a 3! Who in the Top 10 this Year replaces or "brings" what Wake can? Remember the Game Winning Safety Sack? Seriously the Dude is Special. Most Guys, even first rounders are not.

Take into consideration the mileage Wake has, 2 seasons in Canada then
5 years with us with his rookie season playing a handful of snaps per game
Wake has started only 58 games in the NFL

Wake's the same age as Jared Allen whose in his 10th season
and has started 147 games.

Allen at the same age has started 2 1/2 times more games than Wake

Careful, even if someone gave us a #1(which I don't see because of his age) you can't be positive of what you will get in the draft or how quickly that player will help the team to the level of a monster like Wake. Even Dion Jordon, who I love, helps in a very limited way this season and he's a #3 pick overall! I think the kid will be a stud for years to come but it's a huge question that he will ever be the equal of Wake. If you've looked at Wakes' arms lately the guy is ripped beyond belief and I don't see a regression in his game at all except where he has been slowed by this unfortunate injury which has him playing at less than 100%. For all we know he's still acending. That's downright scary! Dying to trade somebody, trade Starks. Wake is too huge of a difference maker on the field. Do you really think OV would have 10 sacks if he wasn't playing opposite Wake? That's value! You battle to keep him on your team! That's my 2cents!

He's the type of player that if he goes somewhere else, some of the fans go with him. I knew people who did that with Joe Montana. Then again, he was freakin' Joe Montana......

Let's keep him until he retires.

I have a feeling this type of trade would be like a Welker deal. He leaves, goes to a team and dominates for a while, while we try to develop some scrub.

The way I see it, if a new coach comes in this offseason, yes, we trade Wake and quite a few other players. That will be a new GM, entirely new coaching staff, and a thorough house cleaning. That's what I expect. All of the locker room leaders will be traded or released including Wake, Starks, and quite a few others. We will rebuild with youth ... again. That's what I expect to happen.

If we somehow make a run of sorts and get into the playoffs and maybe win a playoff game or two, then Philbin & Co. might be back ... with some staff changes. That is the only situation I can foresee where Wake would be back. Jonathan Martin did far more damage to the Dolphins franchise than benefit to himself. Obviously neither Martin nor Incognito will play another game in a Dolphins uniform. Sadly, Cam Wake is a veteran leader, and regardless of whether he's guilty or not, he will be pushed out because of this mess.

Nah, Wake is here until it's deemed more valuable to trade him for pick or picks because of someone else's ability like OV? If not we will keep him to smash Brady in the mouth next year. Any new coach would love to have a guy like that on the roster.

Totally legitimate question. It ridiculous some people attack the OP for just bring up the concept. Wake's play has fallen off considerably albeit almost entirely due to injury. However, a lot of guys fall off with age not so much due to loss of talent, but injuries that they are slower to recover from.

Now if I'm Ross, I absolutely do NOT let Ireland do this. He simply has proven incapable of drafting superior playmakers of Wake's caliber. If we get a new GM (fingers crossed), I would consider it for a first rounder as I don't see us as a Superbowl contender next year based on what we look like now. Just too many holes.

Better teams always consider this with aging stars and the best ones secure value before the fall off. I love Wake as a player and a leader. However, if our FO thinks we are two plus years out (we probably are), it would be smart to consider someone throwing a 1st rounder should that materialize.

I saw it mentioned in another thread about cutting Wake before the 2015 season and it gave me an idea...

If Vernon continues to play at the level he is for the remainder of the season, and Dion Jordan continues to develop, could the Dolphins deal Wake?

I love Wake and he has consistently been one of the defender in the NFL, but he is getting older and would have a pretty high trade value. With a plethora od holes to fill in the off season and having an extra (or couple of extra) early picks could be beneficial to filling those holes.

Second question.....what is his trade value?

Keep him. Period.
