Should Ireland be fired?

I dont believe the GM is the big picture. I've advocated recently that the GM responsibilities should be reduced. I've always felt the coaches should pick the players, and many of the head coaches around the league who do so are also the more successful ones. I don't like the traditional authoritarian-style GM that picks the players for the coaches. I'd like to see Brian Gaine (or a new hire) in the role of a Director to put together the draft board and free agent targets, and let the coaches make the call. If we are going to fire Ireland and bring in some GM like Pioli who will blow up the roster and organization, well I think that's the wrong approach and we will start the new timer on another 3 years before the next firing.

better to start timer now than wait another year to start it. I still don't think a new Gm means the team is totally blown apart. Any decent Gm will keep good players

We have a lot of guys who dont match their cap number, and a lot of scheme guys. This roster is getting blown up with a new coach/GM. I'd rather build on what we have then rebuild.

sounds like the same old story. The GM has had six years to build a winner but he builds 8-8 while we go 2-4 in a weak division. I respect your opinion but its like having major termite damage and repainting the outside of your house. We were 8-6 and did not even compete the final two weeks, what is so special about a coach or team that allows that

I don't think it will be a complete rebuild, but if it is, I'd rather start over then be stuck in limbo with average seasons. Ireland has overstayed his welcome, and I don't see anything from Philbin that warrants keeping him.

The problem is that we don't "build." Ireland he blows things up himself every year. Look at last year...please explain why we needed to decimate our LB corps. Next year we will be losing a lot of FA's. He doesn't know how to keep the good players and "build" anything. All he know is "cap numbers" and getting bargains. He doesn't know how to get and keep play-makers with "heart."

Well what you are suggesting is to call in the wrecking crew for some termite damage. Or replacing the whole car when the alternator goes. I'm hoping for someone new at drafting and acquiring free agents, and a new OC...lets fix whats broke, and lets not start over.

So u feel Coyle did a good job turning a top 10 defense into a a top 20 defense or the OL coach setting a record for sacks before anybody got in trouble, or the running backs coach.
Or the linebacker coach. Its easy to blame Sherman but the offense was never that great before but our defense in reality took a bigger step down.
If the new GM whoever that is wants to keep philbin fine but not sure what he has done to gain your confidence
you do realize at any time philbin could have made changes with these coaches and didnt

I agree, I don't thing the GM position is as powerful as people make it out to be, I think the GM and the coach sit down and discus the type of player they want on the team, the GM then looks for the players and consults with the HC before making any move, if the coach disagree with a move I think it then goes to the president or owner for how they will proceed if the GM still wants to make that move...same happens with cuts, they discus and watch films on all players, the position coaches explain why they think a guy should be kept and then the coach and GM makes the decision on who gets cut.....this is the reason why I think they both should go or they both should stay....they both agreed not to address the OL, they both felt what they had in camp was good enough....the bottom line is the coach had the players he wanted and he couldn't coach them to victory in the last two weeks, that's not Ireland fault.....

Im suggesting a qualified professional come in and evaluate the house and see what needs replacing

well then in your opinion its never the Gms fault

We should fire him, re-hire him, and then fire him again!

Correct, it is a shared responsibility an organizations fault, the only fault with the GM lies in his choice of HC unless the owner picked the HC.....Ireland scouted the players that fit Sparano style, when Tony was fired he is now scouting the players that Philbin likes......

That would be a good excuse, but Ireland can't get players that are good in ANY system.
