Dolphins Already Very Active

Grier was totally in control of the 2019 draft because Tannebaum was fired after the 2018 season. The 2019 draft was very average at best. So stating Grier is all on his on for the first time just isn’t true.

The fact is Grier has been part of the problem in the personnel department for the past 20 years. Hopefully he has learned from all his mistakes over the past two decades and he can actually do a better job in the 2020 draft.
Grier has been with us for 20 years?

I don’t care if the Dolphins draft Tua even though I hope they don’t trade up to select him. I would have no problem if they drafted him at 5.

I just think that the Lions will be moving on from Stafford after the 2020 season because of his age and his recent back injury. The only reason they won’t trade him now is because of the cap hit they would take by trading him now.

The Lions are a bad team with or without Stafford. By drafting Tua they will have their QB of the future and he can sit out next year while his hip fully recovers and take over as the Lions QB in 2021. If the Dolphins recognize that Tua in a once in a lifetime QB prospect. Why would anyone assume the Lions don’t see that same thing in Tua and they decide to build for the future with Tua as their QB?

The reality is there is no player better at 3 for the future of the Lions than a healthy Tua. Just as there would be no better player for the Dolphins at 5 than a healthy Tua. I just think the Dolphins are going to have to trade up to 2 if they want to draft Tua and I think it will cost them all of their first round draft picks to move from 5 to 2.

If not for his injury history I would have no issue with the Dolphins trading three first round picks for Tua but I would be very wary of giving up those picks simply because of the serious hip injury he suffered.
Ummm that would be the sweetest draft deal in history. 3 first rounders in the same year for 3 draft spots? I don’t think so. No GM is doing that.

Miami is doing what I'd expect a team, with as much known draft capital, as Miami has. I'm of the belief, Miami will eventually add more draft picks in 2020 and 2021, via trade down scenarios. I don't necessarily believe, Miami is going to trade up. They know the strengths of the next 2 drafts. Let the board fall to them and take advantage of other teams desperation or a good player falling into Miami's lap.

Stafford is the least of the Lions problems. They were a competitive team before he got hurt this past season and he is only 32 years old. He can probably play at a high level for another 5 to 6 years as long as he stays relatively healthy from this point forward. The Lions biggest problems are on the defensive side of the ball.

Agreed. I'd be surprised if they go QB in the early rounds. Defense needs help, badly.

Hope not.

All the signs are pointing that way. Tua is certainly acting like he’s going to be a Dolphin as well. A lot can happen between now and then, but that’s where I’d be most comfortable putting my prediction in late February.

Cool story. Can you give me the lotto numbers while you’re using that third eye of yours?

Lol...Yet you gave your prediction Miami will trade up for Tua...Do you have a Crystal ball? We're all somewhat guilty of having a crystal ball.

You gave your opinion on what would happen in the top 5 with Miami, just like 1972 gave his opinion.

It's playoffs or unemployment for the Lions' GM & coaches . They are not going to use their 1st round pick on someone who can't help this year.

And I also believe odds are high Tua will be the pick by Miami, but trading up would not be very smart for a player that could be a different player then he was at Alabama.

Several things!

1. Tannebaum wasn’t fired.
2. Detroit also has a coach in the hot seat. Forgetting context when trying to figure a teams mindset is mistake imo
Tannebaum was let go from his position with the Dolphins after the 2018 season. He no longer is associated with the Dolphins. You may not called that being fired but I guess you have another term for an employee who is asked to remove himself permanently from the position he was hired for and to vacate the premises.

As far as the Lions are concerned, they aren’t making the playoffs in 2020 no matter what the owner has stated. In fact I expect they will have a top 5 pick in 2021 because I just don’t see them winning more than 4 or 5 games.
The coach and GM won’t be around after the 2020 season unless thay can convince the owner that the Lions need a complete rebuild job similar to the Dolphins and that the rebuild job needs to start with drafting Tua with the 3rd pick.

It appears many fans on here have no problem trading multiple picks to move up and draft Tua. Yet I doubt any of those same fans would want to trade the 5th pick along with other picks to trade for Stafford. So if Dolphin fans see that a Tua is the long term answer at the QB position for our team. Why should we not see that individuals within the Lions organization can’t also recognize that Tua is a better option at the QB position for the Lions than Stafford is over the long term.

I think the fact that Kiper now has the Lions drafting Tua at 3 is a sign that the Lions might be looking more toward the future and accepting that they aren’t a playoff caliber team going into the 2020 season.

I don't know how you keep missing the self preservation angle here. The guy making the pick isn't doing it for the charity of the organization for when he gets fired next year. The team was 3-4-1 with Stafford and then lost every single game the rest of the season without him. I can assure you that he's going to try and make picks to help him keep his 7 figure job.

No, I gave an educated guess. That dude straight up said what would happen. If you can’t tell the difference between the two, then I don’t know what to tell you.
