Dolphins have 'expectation of mastery' for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

So we start off talking about Tua and his ability to run this offence even better.
Now it's descended into questions about his intelligence.

The audience -- meaning both Miami fans as well as the national media -- do not trust Tua.

It's as simple as that. You can criticize him physically or through certain performances or through his personality but at the end of the day this all reflects a lack of trust.

Correct. No one actually knows what the Wonderlic scores correlate with. So it's silly when posters use it to try to imply a player ( Tua in this case) is stupid or not able to audible.

Also. When you have a QB like Tua, with his anticipation, accuracy, timing. Along with his completion % and rating. I'm pretty confident his ability to read a playbook or understand formations is top notch

I agree.

I think what Tua does, he does based on massive amounts of preparation paired with incredible instinct.

You could see on day-1 that Tua had an instinct to quickly make a decision and let it go. To me, that's the instinct we never got with Tannehill for instance. Sometimes being too analytical can be problematic. Perhaps Tannehill wasn't sure what he was seeing and Tua simply does QB stuff better?

Like you, I'd only use Wonderlic as a proxy for mental ability if we didn't have years and years of tape...but we do and the tape doesn't lie.

This is my biggest problem with FH ( message boards in general).

Posters presenting their hot takes or opinions as facts.

But then the other side of my brain is like, “idiot, why should they say imo or inmho after posting, its a message board it is effing implied”
Yeah, because that happens nowhere else in life.....

Yes, that I believe was the deep sideline throw to Hill.

Tua, in 2023, would actually change out of a play or audible more then some realize. He had a few plays he loved and normally was very successful when changing to those plays.

But, this was in 2023, first half of the season when Miami had an O line.

It's difficult to do anything worthy when you consistently break the huddle with under 10 seconds, almost every play requires pre snap motion and the O line can only block for 2.1 seconds.

When he had an O line, it was awesome. Hopefully Daniels and Jonah bring that back

Good point. Manning and Rodgers would not have enough time to digest what the defense is doing either. However, we don't need a one-read wonder either. Eventually, the defense will win the battle on downs, and it will kill too many drives. We only get so many chances on offense if our defense can't create turnovers. I am not sure how, but I would like to see us get more chunk plays (again) or establish dominance in the running game to bring in a safety and give Tua options for play action. Hopefully, we will see both this year.

Brees is actually a great example. He’s someone who sucked, did OK, then throttled up into greatness.

So you’re saying there’s a chance!!!

The difference with Tua however is that he hasn't sucked. He hasn't been mediocre. He's coming off 3 straight seasons which saw him rank #1, #5 and #9 in passing efficiency. And he's seemed to have no problem generating the best possible numbers the offense he's in might allow (even going back to the Flores years). People forget he was still league average behind a bad OL with co-OCs while throwing to nobodies.

There's really no "up" from where Tua is when he's healthy. He's going to remain the guy he's been, with the offense taking whatever schematic turns McDaniel chooses to enforce, while the questions about volume stats and team wins are mostly left up to Tua's health.

My point was that Tua isn't going to get "better" the way a few posters were suggesting he needs to. IMHO, that's silly for a guy who's the 4th rated passer over the last 3 seasons. A guy who's already Top-5 at what he does doesn't have a next level to get to at that thing.

It would also be absurd to suggest that Tua is suddenly going to grow another 6" or develop a rocket arm or become of the more mobile QBs. Like...none of that is going to happen in year 6, LOL.

It’s not gonna happen with mcd. Y’all are wasting your breath.

This offense isn’t qb freedom based.

Doesn’t matter how smart or dumb Tua is.

I don’t think it’s talked about a lot but I don’t find Tua to be a particularly smart dude. He actually comes off like a big dummy. I think that’s a factor in.. well, everything.

Tua isn't a rocket scientist but he also isn't a dummy.
He code switches a lot
When he speaks in what can be considered a formal setting he's careful with his words which may be why you perceive him as a dummy when he speaks.

Entirely different style of offense. You want qb freedom you need to lose Mcd.

And hope the next guy brings it as a part of his scheme etc.

Those idiots had talent, why else would they get paid. Thanks for confirming Tua has talent

Watson got paid, Levion Bell got paid and Albert Haynsworth got paid. The list is endless, unlike their so called talent. Just takes one fool to pay.
