Dolphins Waiver Claims/Signings/Practice Squad

Montee Ball was cut by the Broncos. Up until last year, he was looking pretty good. Maybe worth a consideration?

I think that we need an extra RB and we need him on the roster. Lamar Miler, Damien Williams and LaMike James as the guys is looking a bit thin. I'd be searching for an experienced big tough RB. Any suggestions?

John Crockett cut by Packers?

Overrated time of year. Low percentage. I don't like low percentage. It's like an unlikely parlay. You have to detect something special in a discarded player, and have the rest of the league miss it. Good luck with that.

As always, the rare exceptions will be touted far beyond their worth. Earthlings love exceptions.

Our guys get so much preseason spotlight. We learn their names. Then nobody wants any of them when they are jettisoned. That should be a bit of a hint. This year with the third stringers avalanched it's even less surprising than normal.

Logan Thomas picked apart the Canes in 2013 on underneath crossing routes. One after another. Often on third down. Of course, he took advantage of one of the greatest situational spots of all time. Virginia Tech +7.5 points in that game was my second largest college bet of 2013, behind only Stanford giving 8 points at Washington State. Miami was a phony 7-0 in 2013 despite not being very good. Rose to a ridiculous #7 in the polls. Then they were exposed at Florida State for the first defeat of the season. Duke Johnson gets hurt and is lost for the season. Then somehow we are giving a full touchdown to Virginia Tech a week later. It's still difficult for me to believe. Early when I arrived in Las Vegas a very sharp guy shared some of his favorite angles with me. One of them was to take advantage of phony teams that survive unbeaten deeper into the season than proper. He told me that after that first loss they are still brutally overrated and invariably fall apart. The public often expects the opposite, for them to rebound. I took plenty of heat on Canes sites that week for announcing that Virginia Tech +7.5 was a great bet. Miami actually started quickly, including a darting 80 yard catch and run by Stacy Coley. I was never worried. It ended up being a rout. I was annoyed that I didn't have a chunk of the money line.

Anyway, Logan Thomas could be a designated Hail Mary guy at the end of the first half or game. Great arm. He's also a zone read threat. In fact, he pulled out a high scoring game at Blacksburg vs. the Canes a year earlier with a 4th and short keeper for the winning touchdown.

In high school he was the top rated tight end prospect in the country, before switching to quarterback. I'm sure that has been mentioned.

Could this be our 2 point conversion weapon? I thought the Eagles were gonna use Tebow and just always go for 2. I wonder if we would try that

Sure hope not

Does he not remind you of anyone from the 70's?

Logan Thomas is huge and can run with a gifted arm, but I prefer the backup who can make good decisions, is accurate, and gets the ball out. Matt Barkley would keep the offense moving in a crisp manner. Frank Reich and Don Strock were good backups. They could rally the team short term. Logan is more of a slow decision maker who is going to spray it everywhere. Is 10-23 with two picks and 34 yards rushing what we want off the bench?

Anyway, Logan as a two point specialist under the new rules for XP is interesting. He'd have to be active on game day, obviously, though. So, we will know from our inactive list what kind of head games our staff has in mind.

In other news, what is Christion Jones' status? Is he hurt? I think he can be a difference maker. I'd get him in here. We still have two spots.

Is Aundrey Walker really investing any effort on? I didn't notice anything but bad from the deep end of the backup linemen.

Interesting that Jordie Tripp didn't even get a PS spot yet. I tend to agree that he hasn't shown an ounce of potential yet. Keep in mind he was one of the metrics stars in 2014. Between Vigil and Hewitt on active and Hull on PS there are three developmental Lb as it is. Realistically, will any of them be front line players? I suppose many had written Jelani Jenkins off a year ago and he turned in a nice season, so development is possible. Of the three, I'd argue for Hewitt because of his upside athleticism. But, I think we need more than one high draft picks at LB over the next couple of years.

Jelani Jenkins not getting more burn in 2013 was ALL politics. We kept forcing Wheeler in to justify that big contract for him and Ellerbe and even then, by the end of the year, we pretty much saw Jenkins in on all passing downs/in coverage. He flashed his rookie season.

Jordan Tripp did not. He struggled to get off blocks, both on the defense and on special teams.

Where's WV to tell us Tripp was the best pick in last years draft? He started that thread, I remember.

Ive said it from the start Tripp was soft. Not surprised hes not here anymore although I did hope I was wrong.

He reminded me a bit of Bobby Carpenter, just turned to mush as soon as he got near the ball.

You sure spend a lot of time telling people what they don't understand. What you don't understand is that this process to fill out the final roster spots isn't about "the percentages". Do you think the Patriots give a **** that 6th round QBs have a poor percentage of success in the NFL? Do you think the Dolphins give a crap that so few undrafted DEs go through the Canadian Football League to make it to the NFL? Nobody is suggesting you build a roster with waiver sire pickups, undrafted FAs, and late round draft picks.

I can just imagine you dogging someone who just won the lottery. "My Vegas buddies and me laugh at people who play the lottery. We don't like low percentage plays."

Tripps problem for me was he just was always too soft at the poa be it on specials or as a lb...the ball went right thru his gap like a hot knife thru butter...it never changed...even as a wolb you have fill requirements
