Drew Rosenhaus: McCoy will be hired as dolphins head coach

Mike Zimmer was only initially receptive. He later pulled his name out of contention (as did Toub). Marc Kohn (who has calling McCoy to Miami for days now) reported this.

No one was willing to believe Kohn's reporting even though his inside scoop on the Fisher deal was before anyone's. But if McCoy is announced hopefully people will backtrack and recognize that he was right... that Zimmer and Toub rejected the Dolphins after friends in the league advised them to, not the other way around.

SILENCE! How dare you claim Miami has a bad rap?

Well, out of the mindblowingly terrible choices this is the most intriguing one to me. I'd approach the McCoy era with an open mind. I wouldn't be filled with the dread of inevitable failure like I would with Philbin or Bowles. His introductory presser would go a long way towards my getting a solid feel for the hire. His character and demeanor better outweigh his resume.

It'd be interesting if Rosenhaus was right about this. He was completely shut out of the Parcells era. Maybe his ins into the organization are back.

It is always entertaining to see who the fans think the Dolphins should be hiring like Marty Ball or Mike Zimmer or Brian Billick. Did you ever stop to think why no other team in the NFL has hired them either? Billick got fired a year after going 13-3, no other team has hired him. I liked Mike Zimmer as a possibility, but again so far no other team has hired him. Same with Marty. There have been plenty of HC openings since all have been availble, not just this year. I realize the first reaction is to blame the Ireland or Ross or Peterson, but shouldn't you take just a moment and ask your why no other team has deemed them worthy of their HC position?

I try not to look at who other teams are hiring because if you look at the way head coaches have been turning over since 2009, it's absolutely insane that like 9 out of 11 first time head coaches hired since 2008 have already been fired. I think that was the number, saw it on another forum the other day.

I guess the more you keep posting this the more you are tempted to believe it.

If Mike McCoy is the guy, he has my unconditional support until/if the crap hits the fan.

Dave Toub would be lucky to have a HC job.

I dont understand what mccoy has done to even be in this position!!!

I agree 100%, he's had a mediocre offense for much of the season. And before this season they weren't in any position for playoff berth. I just dont get it, wtf do they see in this guy?

get ready for 10 out of 12...

looks inevitable (sadly)

seriously we hire another conventional guy. I am so sick of this team with boring ground offenses. Need to get with the times, but Ireland has dirt or something on our inept owner and Ireland is an old school guy. Not to mention the dinosaur Peterson.

I love my team, but the decision making is sickening. I said my support would be lost after not picking a qb last year, but of course I stayed around. This front office and ownership is just sickening.

Probably, but I think that's going to be the case whether it's Philbin, Bowles or McCoy. Jeff Ireland won't address the QB position, and it won't matter who the coach is until that happens.

Why do so many start bitching and complaining, and go all, the sky is falling, before a guy even has a chance to do anything. As soon as the announcment comes, whoever the coach is, this forum will be flooded with "he sux" "this is awful", "more mediocrity". Wait and see, give somebody a chance. Must suck to be so glass is half empty about life.

I lost faith in marty ball when the chiefs with 13-3 multiple times and lost in the first game every time. Oh wait that trend continued in San diego didn't it?

yeah in fact screw marty.

I say bring Marty to Miami. He just wins a lot of games. He is due to win in the playoffs. Not to mention FIRST you have to get to the playoffs, and he seems to do that well. I'd take him in a heart beat.

I'm generally a positive person, but I can understand why others around here tend to be negative. after all, dolphins football hasn't given us much to be positive about since 1998.

hiring a candidate with a resume for explosive offense would be nice since that seems to be what everybody wanted (except the front office)

I get it. All we have to look at is resumes and with first time coaches you never know......and yes, you could be a good coordinator and a god awful coach (Cammy). However, usually you have to be good as a coordinator to even get a shot, and McCoy is not even that.
