FIU-UM Fight | 8 Canes Suspended

Bottom line...... 3 strikes and your out!! In the past 10 months.....

Peach Bowl---brawl with LSU post game

L'ville game this year---started an incident at midfield prior to the game

FIU----horrific street fight

If the NCAA let's the Miami Hurricanes go to a BOWL game (any bowl game) this year they are crazy. THAT is the ultimate punishment. That will cost the school and the conference $$$$$$$$$. That punishes the kids from a trip to a game. It costs the team extra weeks of practice for next year. It costs the school a lot of money.

This school needs to be punished. 3 times in less than 10 months they have been involved in this type of deal. NCAA can enforce every ticky-tac rule, lets see the NCAA do something big for once!

No, actually they are the pulse of the country on this topic. I am not a big fan of that show but on this they are right. That was disgusting that incident.

Family's at the game. Little Kids at the game, then that crap breaks out. People paid money to watch football what they got was something out of a bad rap video!!

there isnt fighting in rap videos.

nice try tho

lmao. again, calling that horrific is hilarious. if you think what you saw was horrific, you have probably been locked in your room your whole life.

If miami wins out, they will be in a bowl game..like or not..

FIU seems to get it

Besides ordering the two dismissals -- those players will remain on scholarship -- FIU increased the suspensions for another 16 players involved in the melee. Originally ordered to serve one-game suspensions by the Sun Belt Conference, each of those players are now out indefinitely.
Plus, all the suspended FIU players will have to complete 10 hours of anger management counseling and 50 hours of community service, besides be on probation for the remainder of the academic year. Further, all FIU players -- suspended or not -- and coaches will need to complete community service projects.

"For us," FIU athletic director Pete Garcia said, "one incident is one incident too many."

He should be fired for his commentary, not only did he sound like an uneducated fool but encouraging the fight to continue and saying he wanted to join in is unbelievable.

Also, how is what Merriweather/others did not just as bad as what Vick did?
Agreed 100%

Lamar Thomas was fired today - that was expected..he shouldve got the axe

2 FIU players was kicked off the team - the 2 that ACTUALLY started this mess...1 guy body slammed a UM guy..kicked off the team..great job Coach Strock

Miami' Reddick suspended - hes pretty much done for the year...you cant swing your helmet

Miami's President Donna Shaala - said Coker is still on the job.."for now"
Props to the FIU administration ... they did what they should have done.

Now let's see if the U will do the same with Reddick...

nothing will happen to Miami, their too good to do anything to. they still win the ACC IMO

Meriweather wasn't suspensed indefintely BTW, Redick was but not Meriweather. he only received a one game suspension. He shouldn't be suspended indefinitely either, nobody got hurt. Haynesworth did worse two games ago in the NFL and only recieved 5 games

Problem is, the U has a lot more to lose
It shouldn't matter if they have more to lose. It is a question of credibility. Does the university want to send a message that you can come and represent their school in that manner with little or no reprocussions? If it were up to me, I would revoke his scholarship for swinging his helmet. That would send a pretty clear message that "the U" is actually concerned about it's image, and that they aren't going to tolerate that type of behavior any longer.

However, I doubt very strongly that they'll do it. Miami has a history of these types of offenses occuring, and the players always receive a slap on the wrist. I'll be watching closely (& hoping) to see if the university has any integrity.

5 games in the NFL without pay means a lot more. One game for Meriweather is pathetic. FIU handled it correctly by severely punishing all involved. Miami makes some guys miss the Duke game, but no way can they miss the GT game, so it's a slap on the wrist and that is why Miami will have something like this happen again. By your logic since no one was really hurt no one should get suspended for more than 1 game.
