LOL, that is one.....last time I checked, 10 other teams with different coaches have won the SB over the last 10 years.

This is complete BS. Selective memory? 9 times out of 10 that Philbin is shown on the sidelines, he is standing solo, not speaking. I never once saw him gather his offense or defense together, or go to the bench to speak with a group. This isn't selective memory. Is it possible that these instances weren't shown by the TV coverage? Sure. But there are so many coach shots during a typical NFL broadcast, that I think you clearly get a flavor for what a coach is doing during a game.

Like I said, its easy to look back on coaches that have won it all and point to reasons that might have made them successful. If Philbin wins it all next year I'm sure we'll be able to point to a lot of things that made him good (and of course everybody on here will say they knew he was good all along).
Actually Tom Coughlin teams are not always disciplined and often start out very slow due to sloppy play and penalties!
So you are saying Bellicheck isnt a good coach because he didnt win superbowls over the past ten years? I mean he has like a thousand division titles and missed the playoffs once. I mean I am farily certain that many successful HC's coach their players on the sidelines during games like Bellicheck does.

That's what they do ALL WEEK LONG, starting on MONDAY.
He should drop the notes it makes him look like an idi0t.
Look at ANY other teams post game locker room speeches to get some perspective.
Some coaches just look a little awkward in that setting but Philbin takes the cake in terms of awkwardness.
Pete Carrol & the 49ers Harbaugh handle them the right way IMHO. Christ even Caughlin is more energetic and spontaneous than Regis
I think the Giants were actually one of the more penalized teams this year. There were a couple games this year they were penalized at alarming rates. I remember him talking about it in a couple of his PC's
9 out of 10 times when you see any head coach on the TV, he is alone. Also a lot of times when they pan to a coach something bad has happened. I have also seen plenty of times when Philbin is getting on a ref for a bad call.
Albert don't try to cloud the matter with facts. Team simply can't win without rah rah motivational speeches from a leader of men who doesn't need cue cards...
Those teams were all either
(a) robbed by the refs
(b) hard hit by injuries
(c) intimidated by Jimmy Wilson's crude trash talking, or
(d) all of the above.

Really? Did you happen to catch his 1st few years in Jacksonville? Anyway, it's good for the Jags that they were able to realize that he was not the right man for the job and move on. It's really paid dividends for that franchise.

This is one thing I really like about him. Sparano would just turn into a fan and motion with his arms whatever call he was hoping to get. Philbin gets after the refs hard when its clear they ****ed up.
It's obvious in this thread that people are going to see what they want to see....and if they see it happen once or with one coach, it must always be that way. I can tell you after 24 years (and still going) in the military that leadership is not a one size fits all mentality or approach. It is actually those that control their emotions and know when to turn up the volume at the right time that have been the most effective.
The Dolphins were among the best teams in the league this year in number of penalty yards per play. In fact it was one of the things that compensated for deficiencies in performance elsewhere.

Completely agree. Emotion is overrated. What happens when you come into a game jacked up & the it goes away? You get rolled. I have no doubt it was Joe who held the team together in regards to bullygate. How many times did the meatball have the team amped up and then they got pasted usually by the dour & cunning Belichick.
Look at Duke last night. Smart players. Stoic coach. I really was impressed. Being well prepared, a consistent high level of execution, intelligence, & being even temprered, will win more games than emotion.
That said, both the Eagles & Cowgirls had something in week 17 that the phins appear to be missing; Desire.
