Forget Ronnie Brown!!

It's his agent not wanting to embarrass himself with his first big client more than it is Brown. Besides, no one in this league who is in their right mind would trust Ricky with an offense. Saban knew Ricky was coming back when he drafted Ronnie. And Ronnie has the sick combination of skills that can make him as good as anyone in this league, and he has excellent work ethic.

I see your point, but it's all about supply and demand my friend. I'm certain there are players in the NFL who could succeed doing many of our jobs, but none of us could be playing in the NFL. It's hurts, but it's the tough truth.

EXACTLY!!!! Another way to look at it is to look at what some of the Hollywood super stars make. Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, and Jim Carrie make like 40 mil per movie. They don't even have to worry about getting a life changing injury from what they do, and they can do it for the rest of their lives. F-ballers avg about 2.5 years and have to take up something else. If ya want to complain about someone making too much start with them.

I don't blame any player for making as much as he can, while he can. It is called capitalism, if you can provide something very few others can provide then it is suddenly valued much higher. Simple supply and demand.

Too often fans try and say if they were in the players position they would do it different, they would settle for less. But if suddenly the next day they went to work at their job and everyone there started making 10 million a year except them and they were only making half a million, even though they had been there longer and was better at their job, it wouldn't be long before they to would see only those making more. Then THEY would start complaining and doing whatever they could to catch up to make what they thought they were worth according to those around them, NOT people from other jobs. It is all relevant, to what your value is according to those around you.
If people want to look at what the players are making and complain, they need to take a look at what the owners are making. They are making 10 or 20 times as much as some of the highest priced players and are not risking their lives. Upps I guess I am rambling, :D

This happens every year. You people act shocked.

This "why pay rookies millions" stance is getting old. NFL rookies make millions, let it sink it and move on from it.

God I wish we would have traded this pick. So we will probably be gutting our team to make Ronnie Brown the highest paid player on the Phins. I know since
he is the #2 pick he is supposed to get paid but a QB went before him and comparing his money to Smiths is preposterous. A million more than the # 2 pick last year in bonus money is more than enough of a percantile increase. The whole system is out of control and needs to be fixed just like NBA rookie scale.
If there is a salary cap and money for rookies is capped then there should be a capping of what can be spent in first round.

I love these people that either act like well thats what we are supposed to pay or Ronnie bears no responsibilty because he has not signed. The agent works for him and at any time he can tell his agent make the damn deal so its not like he is oblivious to the fact that he is not signed. Of course he wants the most money he can get because I mean he has got to eat. I do find it funny that Cadillac has already signed when he could have waited to get more money after Edwards signed. Ronnie was not a better back and did not get picked but two spots higher but of course wants 8 million more dollars.
I personally wish someone could trade for his rights because is it really worth it to give him the most bonus money ever given a back.

easy for any of us to say for him to leave a few million on the table just so he doesn't miss a couple days of camp!!

everyone is making a mountain out of a mole hill here. go ask a Charger fan if how long they stayed mad at LaDanian for holding out most of training camp.....most likely until he carried the ball for the first time....then all was forgotten.

just relax, the business comes first here, and it would be horrible business for him to leave that money on the table.

Just like it would be horrible business for us just to give up the money if we feel we do not need to spend it. I say keep our best offer we feel we should give on table then let his agent make his decision and if Edwards signs that will give leverage to one side or another doubtful it gives Ronnie's agent more leverage. We have nothing to lose by standing our ground at this point. Ronnie will not hold out forever just like we will change our offer if we feel we need to. We know His agent will not hold the guy out all year because that will be money that would never be made up and he would makes less if he got redrafted since he would definately go lower. He does not have the leverage that Bo Jackson had.

Ronnie is no lock to be a super star in the NFL. You younger guys don't remember Sammie Smith. Ronnie reminds me of him. Big fast back with good hands. A can't miss prospect. We drafted him when we could have had Emmitt. He could very well be a bust.

 Sammie Smith.....Oh man...My bloodpressure just went up about 50 points.....Ohhhhhh...mmmmmmm....rrrrrr.....Oh that guy...I remember the Chiefs game goal line fumble like it was YESTERDAY. My best bud (Chiefs fan) and, I used to mercilessly bust each other's balls when the teams would play, but, after tha one, he just looked at me and said.."Sorry man".

Sammie Smith...:yell:

I do remember Sammie Smith, we all liked him very much. He was powerful and fast, I remember how happy I was when Shula got him, and how disappointed I was when the guy cant take a hit, he was horrible, he never was able to adjust to the pros..... Wow man, you just brought back very bad memories.

Any time some one owns a company they will usually make much more money than the people they employ. If You owned a football team and paid your best players more money than you made you would lose money and be bankrupt. The owner assumes all risks and and is the only one that possibly can take a loss. I as a fan have one big problem with the NFL and owners, they are one of the few businesses( all team sports but esp NFL) that has public money subsidize thier business so that they can make millions and spend money on other millionaires. If the NFL has so much money then they should build thier own stadiums instead of sticking it to the taxpayers.

Also if you wanna compare Athletes to Hollywood stars its all about what money the product makes. Lets not forget we pay well over 50 dollars a ticket so that athletes can make this money plus fund the stadiums, complexes and such. I think we pay about 8 to 10 dollars for a movie, about 20 dollars for a dvd. I think we pay too much for movie tickets but comparing that to what NFLtickets cost it almost seems reasonable.

Jesus!!! people..its this what it has come to?

Comparing Ronnie Brown to Sammie Smith?

The season just cannot come soon enough!!! :shakeno:

Alright, let's break it down.

Mike Williams had to sit out a year and it cost him a 18-20 mill signing bonus and a years salary. So if Ronnie wants to play hardball after saying he would not be a hold out problem(last #1 to sign). Let's play hardball!

If he sits out until the last possible moment he will not get the big bonus and he will sacrifice 50-70% of his 1st years salary to missing games. Then f he does not sign w/ te Fins and reenters the draft, where will he fall to. Reggie Bush would be drafted ahead of him for sure and as would Leinart. That is 2 guys from 1 team. Take in to count any studs that will come out of the upcoming season. Nobody is taking a guy that held out a whole year in the top 5. What is he able to prove?

Let him sit, as we are not desperate for a RB, I would love to see him in, but only at $15 mill not any more. The Fin's have the upper hand. Use it! If he get's injured or is a bust, the team would be in salary turmoil for a long time. Look at all the salries already being paid and look at the future money. Ouch!

I want him to play as soon as possible, just not at the asking price.

Let him gamble, or trade his rights if there are any takers. RB could bring a high 1st and another pick. Or a player like Edge (if less money) and a 2nd. Let him find out the Maurice way, and he may fall to the 3rd round and get a league minimum w/ a low signing bonus! I do not see him taking that gamble. I see him firing his agent and doing a deal himself before that happens. He knows the range he will get! So be patient and hope for Fins' patience.

Man I'm away from the boards for a month or so and now we're bashing Ronnie Brown? C'mon, when I left it was Feeley sucks, Saban is GOD,...whine, bit*h, moan! These contracts for rookies are a formality that every NFL team goes through, I can assure you it's not just Brown holding out for more money! I.M.O. this maybe his only chance to get HIS so he just like every one of you do and would do has to look out for #1!!!! It's a new season ladies.....smile, and be a little excited because we may suprise a few of the so called experts!

Pay him what he deserves for being the #2 overall pick. It's all about the guaranteed money. I don't blame Ronnie for holding out. He will sign eventually.

then why did the fins pick him? why stay at the #2 spot if your not willing to pay the man. i know the fins didnt get any great offers to trade down, but if paying him was such a big deal, than another team would be "DOING YOU A FAVOR" BY TRADING A 2ND ROUNDER FOR YOUR #2 OVERALL PICK. and i know 31 teams that would have done that in a heart beat.

but that would be just plain DUMB.

your playing for potential. its always a gamble, but its always more expensive.

Dont be jeolous cuz our team is stacked better than yours
