Good News-Bad News (Dion Jordan vs. Jon Martin)

so are you saying Jordan should start over vernon? sounds like a good case is being made

Martin's biggest concern was his strength. The kind of NFL strength he needs cannot be achieved during one offseason. It takes years, probably many years to gain the kind of strength he needs. I do think that he can become a decent LT, but its going to be at least a few years and we are going to be white-knuckled until then. And as I said in a another thread, we need to keep our eyes out for a backup LT/RT during preseason cuts. I don't feel comfortable with Martin, Clabo, and Garner as our only tackles - all 3 need to be upgraded. And I'm not buying the Dallas Thomas at LT stuff.

There's no reason for me to believe that report unless it had some quotes in it, from people who know. Hard for me to believe that Long would move his family for less money. If they thought Martin was going to be the worst LT in the league they wouldve thrown the money truck at Long and he would be a Fin.

And now that were looking at the draft in the rear view, how much of that Albert stuff was bull**** cause Ireland wanted people to think we would take a top LT after "missing out" on Albert?

No report from internal sources is going to have the quotes you require. Regardless, you can't dispute they made an offer to Long. Jake said himself it was a difficult decision. As for Brandon Albert, the Dolphins reportedly offered a 3rd round pick.

Nobody, including the Dolphins, think Martin will be the worst LTs in the league. In fact most expect an improvement over last year. The problem is last year he WAS one of the worst LTs in the league. It's reasonable to question how much he can improve.

No. We don't necessarily know how Jordan is going to be when it comes to playing in the meat grinder on 1st/2nd down against the run. I think he's better there than he's generally given credit for being but that doesn't mean he should play on those downs. We'll just have to see.

But he's clearly going to be the nickel/pass rush guy. We always knew that but there's about a zero percent chance they end up deciding they need to go with a different player on those downs.

He might get the call to try Koa Misi's position on some 1st/2nd downs though.

Could the problem simply be an issue of arm length?

pretty sure KC wanted a 2nd. I think Miami would have given up a 3rd.

I always though Ireland's interest in Albert was superficial, but now it appears he was sincere. I would have absolutely made that trade for a 3rd.

I need the full report on starting NFL LT's arm lengths before I can draw any conclusions here.
