Gus is starting, THAT'S FINAL. (Evidence)

I feel comfortable with Gus. As long as the ball goes downfield alot, I dont care.

AJ was a mistake made by that piece of crap GM Spielman and we must give him the axe. He is no starter.

Go listen to Saban's post-practice conference.

It's as clear as day. Gus has won the job.

I'm not a Guskateer, I'll readily admit that, but I certainly did not get the impression that Saban has decided that Gus is the starter...

That being said, he's slightly ahead of AJ in the games we've seen, but what about the practices they've had ?? Those also count in Saban's decision...

What he indicated to me was that he has been gathering info and is close to making a decision. My guess, as most people also think is that Gus will get the nod...But it's just a guess and you stating this as fact is wrong.

Yea but dude, Feeley needs to be better in actual game play, I wanna see these guys play in games where theres a game plan.

Yeah, unless Gus just falls apart or AJ gets possessed by the ghost of Dan Marino, that's how it struck me as well.

Could that really happen? :gossip:

The competition is never "over". It's a constant evaluation process. Besides, it will only last until the first injury anyway.

I don't see us winning more than 4 or 5 games with Frerotte starting. Granted I see us winning 2 or 3 with AJ starting but this Qb situation is just plain unacceptable. Saban is throwing away this season to play Frerotte? Why? Why not bring in a rookie or young Qb and still win 4 or 5 games but get someone that can be a longterm solution? Im kind of lost as to what we are doing with the Qb situation.
OK we can wait till next year and draft someone, then its 2-4 years until he develops and a lot of lost games inbetween. Ive been pulling my hair every draft that goes by that we dont take a chance on a Qb early. Roth and Chowder are good but Id rather have taken a shot on a Qb early. Blast away, I know many on the board tow the company line and believe draft picks are "wasted" on Qbs or that every highly drafted Qb is Ryan Leaf, but look around the league at the top Qbs. Theres a ton of high draft picks and Tom Brady.
We wasted a 2nd rounder on Feeley, its obvious now that this guy is barely a backup quality Qb and we got snookered in that trade. Thats still no reason to not draft a Qb early. I dont care how many draft picks it takes, keep trying till we get a good Qb in here. We have no chance to win without a quality Qb. None.

Gus will start. Most people figured he would even before the preseason games. I thought Feeley had a chance but he just didnt come through when he needed to. I also thought that even if Gus started the season that Feeley would probably supplant him around mid season, but now Im not so sure. AJ is certainly better than he was last season, but he isnt A LOT better. He really needed to be. He still may get there, but he seems a bit slow on the uptake so I dunno.....he may be relegated to perpetual backup duties.

Somehow -- I can't really explain it -- I just don't see AJ getting possessed by the ghost of Dan Marino. Cliff Stoudt, maybe, but not Dan Marino.

There has been no competetion this was handed to Gus he didn't earn the spot it was his from the beginning and it shows as nothing Gus has done the last 2 weeks, and by Gus I mean Gus not Ricky getting him the Fg or his slipped wounded duck td to wrong guy I mean gus hasnt done anything to win the job yet here he is with it it was all a charade by saban and you knwo Feeley is pissed cause he has felt that he wasnt given the same fair oppty as gus has been given with players and scheme!

Yeah I think Saban just liked the fact that Frerotte had a better grasp of the system than AJ. I think what Saban also signaled with his commentary is that he is not impressed with Frerotte's abilities up to this point, probably regarding his accuracy. I also agree with finfansince72's sentiments. I think Saban is falling into the trap most first year coaches fall into. He wants to make an immediate impression and is going to waste the chance to give Feeley playing time in hopes of getting a couple of extra wins. Penny wise pound foolish in my estimation. We should have drafted Charlie Frye in retrospect and saved ourselves one year of development.

Hopefully, our offensive line plays well enough this year to give us a shot at competing and Saban somehow gets our secondary playing up to snuff. If not we will be drafting a QB in round 1

I was hoping the spirit of WoodStrock. I dont know why but Feeley kinda reminded me of Woodley minus the scrambling ability

I just watched the PC and agree with DD28. And to those who have psted here that Gus has not done anything to WIN the job... you're right. But, as some have noted, he was viewed as the favorite coming in due to his work with Linehan in the past, and so far he hasn't done anything to LOSE the job.

Feeley was the one who had to do something to WIN the job... Gus just had to not lose it. Feeley hasn't shown what I wanted him to show, or thought he would show.

Gus will be the starter, barring any "unusual" TD celebrations, that is.
