Herbert Chokes Again

Idk if this is a new thing, but I've noticed with the big throws he's missed. I mean his injured is on his non throwing hand so that obviously shouldn't effect his passing accuracy. But am I seeing things or does Herbert seem to lack "touch" on his passes? He missed some wide open deep or intermediate passes that would have won game or broke open. I know every qb misses open passes, but these passes were one's that required touch and dropping it over to the WR. I wonder if this gets overlooked because he makes flashy throws and he has a rocket arm. It's nice having a rocket arm, but that doesn't mean much if a qb can't also have touch on his passes. That's what mahomes has. Mahomes has a rocket arm, but he can loft passes when needed and layered passes or different throws. Herbert is a talented qb, but this was something I definitely noticed. I haven't watched too many games from him on live tv. Has others noticed herbert not able to have good touch on his passes? Funny thing is certain radio hosts or analysts will still make excuses for herbert, but any thing that Tua does that's not perfect and bash Tua. Oh well
He has zero touch.

Seems to be a recurring theme

Some of us have been pointing this out for several years now. Some played deaf or just didn’t want to acknowledge.

The playoff game against the Jags last season was emblematic of what’s happened over Herbert’s Charger career.

It’s a team game, of course, and not solely on Herbert. Their defense and HC have equally choked and let them down too. That said, Herbert has also contributed to the theme on many occasions. Sometimes it’s an ill-timed INT, sometimes it’s an ill-timed penalty (intentional grounding), sometimes it’s accuracy, sometimes it’s decision making and not being aware of the situation.

Tonight game, it looked like an accuracy issue to me. He missed on numerous throws, some bigger than others.

The biggest was the double-move by Keenan Allen that should have been a long gainer or possibly a long TD. He also short-armed a simple out pattern that would have been chocked up to an arm strength issue had Tua done it.

Even the TD Herbert threw to Keenan Allen was off-target and behind him. He was late and off target much of the night.

I’ve seen far too many games where the Chargers were great for the 1st half then hit a brick wall during the 2nd half or in Q4.

Idk if anyone noticed, but Tua is trending on twitter because of herbert choking in this game. Tua's name was trending after this game, but not because of Tua individually but Tua compared to herbert lol

I hate that it;s come to this tho. This all was due to dbag know it all analysts who dogged on Tua when Tua had nobody around him with flores as his coach. The doubters didn't care what Tua was going through and only cared about the social media throws by herbert. But it;s nothing directed at herbert, he genuinely seems like a nice dude, so it's too bad he choked in this game. Like there are some qbs that you could maybe dislike easily but herbert never came across as arrogant or like a jerk, but actually a pretty humble, modest dude despite being very talented. He never came across as a whiner like Josh allen ha. But this is toward ppl who deep throated herbert but weren't willing to see that Tua maybe be alot better than they thought

Man, the hate Herbert now is like Tua in reverse. The same people who were crapping on Tua last year are now blasting Herbert.
Herbert has a dumb coach and it rubbing off on him. Herbert would be better if he was in Cincy or the Dolphins with a better OC.

He probably does, but Herbert seems to have an issue with touch on his passes

Glad we got Tua

Lol I was sitting there on that final drive and just knew he would somehow choke it away and he did. Its kinda unreal tbh. The dude is talented but for some reason he just cant get it done. Crazy.

I am not one to gloat over Herbert having a poor game.
TBH it shouldn't matter to any of us, but I watched the game and he definitely played poorly.
He had a couple of throws that were off and would have helped them significantly.

Also that game was filled with penalties, both teams seem undisciplined.

Yeah, Chargers had a lot of plays called back. Slater seemed to get a lot of flags.

Doesn‘t the Chargers .500 record with Herbert as the starting QB and their penchant to come from ahead to lose at the end of games, just like the playoff game last January, invite the criticism? In what way is that unfair??

The same could be said about most every QB that hasn’t been paired with the right team and/or coaching. However some rise above those issues and adapt better than others.

Tua, for example, was still helping his team win games while he went though multiple coordinators and didn’t have a wealth of talent surrounding him.

Herbert, meanwhile, is still exhibiting the same M.O. under a new coordinator and while still possessing above average surrounding talent.

At some point, the Herbert apologists have to recognize and acknowledge the trend. Furthermore they need to recognize and acknowledge that being 6’6” with allegedly a strong arm doesn’t compensate for those issues.

Lastly, Herbert has escaped much of the hate and criticism that Tua has received through their first 3 seasons. It’s only now that many are starting to recognize the trend that he’s receiving similar hate and criticism.

I wouldn’t cry Argentina for Justin Herbert. He’s been fortunate to this point in time.
