Ho Ho Ho!!! Phins Pass Blocking Not As Bad As Many Think

This year, RT has been sacked 5 times in 373 drop backs in under 2.5 seconds. He has been sacked the other 53 times in 178 drop backs in 2.6 or more.

If you're using PFF for those statistics, they're flat out wrong. They consider it a sack when the whistle is blown.

I don't even know why on earth anyone's trying to tell us our OL isn't garbage. It's garbage.

I should lay of the juice because I thought I saw him getting hammered on sunday quite repetitively.

People put too much into sacks. Sacks might be the most overrated stat in the league today.

Most sacks are the result of a QB holding onto the football too long, not throwing the football away, or because a lineman missed an assignment.

You watch the games and see how many times Tannehill is out there running for his life. Pressure on the QB changes everything that the offense is attempting to do.

Timing of routes and all kinds of other things are disrupted.

Go pull the stats on that stuff and tell me that pass blocking isn't bad.

Hit the nail on the head..

I hope everyone received a fresh supply of Happy Adjustment for Christmas.

Available in liquid or solid. Mighty shield to deflect any stat.

If you want a "watch the games" perspective, Tannehill in my opinion is too frequently content to stand there when the pressure is moderate but not extreme. Instead of smart compact subtle moves to free additional space and essentially start over with a fresh pocket, he allows a stationary long legged target and invites sacks that should be avoided.

Throwing the ball away wouldn't hurt either.

He's fine on the move. Too often he doesn't move.

BINGO.

And gee, again I wonder why we give up way more sacks per pressure than most teams. :ponder:

Great to have someone here who watches Phins games. So, of the 626 pass plays you watched, how many did the OL suck on?

You watched each one, Right?
Sir what do you think your stats are proving?
The online has sucked when we need them not too..

NEWS FLASH!!! Never said the pass blocking isn't bad, just putting it in some kinda perspective. As you say, sacks are not the only thing to be considered. Hits and hurries do matter, and when added in the OL is not as horrible as most believe. It is something which can be documented, and should be considered by all Phans.

Also, the interior OL of Pouncey, Jerry, and Cog were far from bad in pass protect. The OT's have pretty much sucked, with the exception of Clabo the last seven games. However, compared to the other teams in the NFL, which few watch, they are not as bad as most think. JMO

I don't care what perspective it's in. It's bad.

I care about the Dolphins and that's it. The other 31 can do whatever they want.

If the Dolphins pass blocking is bad, then it's bad. I don't need to compare it to others to feel better about how awful it is.

Pass blocking is bad far too often. Fix it.

That's a great idea, just fix it. It does not matter that about half of the other teams in the NFL have the same problem. Does not matter that all teams have draft picks and access to FA, same as us, and still have had the same problem.

So, how do you suggest we do that?

By fixing the right tackle and left guard position the same way we fixed the left tackle position. By bringing in a better football player.

You know, the same thing we did to reduce the number of sacks per game from 4.4 to 2.5?

The problem is there is absolutely no place for Tannehill to go. The pocket is collapsed right after the snap.
I watched the Niners game on Monday night and I saw two QBs who have formidable pockets. Ours certainly has no such thing.

It's true our pass blocking is not as bad as some people think......IT'S WORST!! I don't care what those stats say, Tanny has been running for his life the whole season. To his credit, he hasn't complain not once!!

Ozzy rules!!

FWIW, I did want to make the trade for Albert, did want to sign Bradshaw at RB, and did want to keep Fasano, as I posted in the past. That would have changed everything, and given us 2 more wins.

Aside from the pass blocking, our run blocking, aside from Pouncey, is the worst I've seen.
