I was wrong

I still hold out hope for Tank, but I was also that soldier.

I thought Syl Williams would be a Pro Bowler. Hmmmm.

Yeah tank still has a shot, seems impossible he doesn't become a heck of a player if he tries.

But that was the same thing with Vernon Gholston. To this day I still have never seen a college player bull doze two blockers with pure stregth as often as he did. I thought he was going to destroy us for years.

I wanted to draft with the first pick, was fhe clowney of his time. I still can't believe how bad he was in the NFL, it doesn't compute.

Well how far back are we going lol.

I can remember saying Heath Shuler was a sure fire NFL stud QB back in the day. Carl Pickens was another Tennessee player I thought would be a stud.

Peter Warrick, Glenn Dorsey, Brian Brohm, Rey Maualuga, Rolando McClain, Brandon Graham, Arrelious Benn....wrong on all of them.

Funny thing About Maualuga is everyone and there mother had him as the best linebacker out of that trio with Matthews and Cushing.

Everyone except the actual NFL scouts.

I was angry that the Giants traded ahead of us in round 3 in 2009 and drafted Ramses Barden. Whoops! We ended up drafting Patrick Turner, so scrubs either way...

I really thought calvin pryor would give us fits for years as rex ryans hard hitting SS, but most jet fans hate his coverage skills and he hasn't made any huge hits this year at all.

I had Matthews rated higher but in 2009 when we took Vontae Davis (who I didn't think we would draft because of immaturity issues) I was on this board saying do we take Hakeem Nicks, Rey Maualuga or Clay Matthews and then they announced Vontae.

I'll help you out:

Better Career - RT or Johnny Football: (http://www.finheaven.com/showthread.php?352160-Better-NFL-Career-RT-or-Johnny-Football)

It's a good thing they hand out free meals in those Vegas casinos. Don't fall off that bar stool.

Sir, you have no credibility on this site. Not with me. There are a handful of posters I have less than zero respect for. You top the list. Your entire value system is flawed. Anyone who relies on perpetual adjustment is not smart. Not in application. Only the fact that so many sports fans rely on the warped Bar Stool perspective enables your type to fester.

It's hysterical that you found the need to collect the posts on Manziel. Obviously this was long planned and in the works. You desperately waited for an opportunity to pounce. That is comically pathetic. It demonstrates how much I have seeped into your existence. You can't tolerate that somebody won't blindly accept the simpleton adjustments, always in the same direction, with no concept of burden.

I've seen this many times previously. I had guys on the Las Vegas radio panels try to hit me with past comments. The host would grin in anticipation. He knew what they were in for. Avalanche.

I don't need to scramble for any of your old posts. They are all the same caliber. You'll make the same basic errors going forward.

Apparently Johnny Manziel's career has been written, while we wait and wait for Ryan Tannehill. As I emphasized, I'd damn sure gamble on greatness rather than rely on low percentage adjustment, year after happy year. This franchise doesn't gamble on anything. We pick low percentage coaches like lifelong assistant Joe Philbin and draft recent wide receivers at quarterback early in the first round. Then we wonder what possibly went wrong. We patch 28 year old stadiums at high expense. Everything I've tried to emphasize is that our approach is awful. If I erred in the case of the 2014 draft it may have been to somewhat downplay the metrics that greatly favored Bridgewater over Manziel. I mentioned those metrics at the time. I know I posted that I would have selected either Manziel or Bridgewater. My final summation was Manziel. That may have come down to 50/50 and I picked the wrong one. Still early to tell. The Dolphin franchise right now is not 50/50. We hang out in that sickening range where every major decision is a small dependable negative expectation.

We've done this a few years in a row now, posted who we would have taken instead. In 2012 I wanted Luke Kuechly, not Tannehill. A year later I posted I wouldn't have traded up for Dion Jordan, but debated between Tyler Eifert or Sheldon Richardson. Our current approach makes truly great players a longshot. Mine does not.

I think people are forgetting the point of this thread is to own up to your own blunders.. Not to accuse anyone else, or get defensive about your picks and let us know how brilliant a GM you would make.

With that in mind.. 2013, I thought Manti Te'o would be a horrible NFL player, but he's doing well down in San Diego. I also thought Kiko Alonso was totally average, and the Bills were being classic Bills by reaching for him in the 2nd.. Whoops. I also loved Leon McFadden and he's played like a wet towel with the Browns, and I was heavy on the Quinton Patton hype train.

In 2012, I was convinced Dontarie Poe was all athlete, and would bust as an actual football player. Pro Bowl player now! Earlier than that I was all for Sergio Kindle and thought he was perfect for us.. Really good thing I'm not allowed in that draft room.

Tavon freaking Austin. I thought that kid was going to the Barry Sanders of WRs, just a walking highlight reel. Totally missed that one.

Beat me to it..................As many here predicted, level of play has not materialized at the pro level
Smatterings of being serviceable in spots, but was overhyped..........I was wrong

My favorite miss to date is Derrick Sherrod. I don't know how much of the blame to place on injuries, but he was my favorite LT prospect that season, and I thought GB stole him at 32.

I also thought Tavon Austin was going to be great....but so far he hasn't done much. I also thought Trent Richardson would be better. It's easy to get blown away watching them play in tape but everyone is bigger, stronger and faster in the NFL.

Austin was always going to be dependent upon his situation. I don't think the Rams had a good plan when they drafted him. I think he would have worked well for Tannehill - particularly in Lazor's offense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Chip Kelly make a move for Austin.

My all-time favorite - I said Barry Sanders was good but not nearly as good as Thurman Thomas, whom he replaced Oklahoma State. I felt Sanders was a small quick back that could play in the NFL but wasn't that special and that Eric Bieniemy from Colorado was nearly as much of a prospect as Sanders.

I think you've made a major point, JOHD. A lot of it is down to where the player ends up, the circumstances, the team culture and the coaches. There are plenty of good players who never had their potential tapped into by the team who drafted them. Even when they move on, it can be too late for them. Likewise, there are guys who seem to have insurmountable flaws but they get coached out or coaches work around them.

Tavon can't beat press coverage, it has nothing to do with his team, and he's not a very good route runner or pass catcher, and if he lines up in the backfield everyone knows he's going to try to leak out somewhere. Natural talent through the roof, fundamentals and size, clearly lacking, and Like a lot of WVU players, probably didn't have the demands on him needed to succeed at the next level. Major problem with WVU players.

But yeah, team has a lot to do with a young players success for sure. Tavon on a Jeff Fisher team never made any sense. Jeff went away from what he knows that draft.
