If Tua is the pick do you draft 2 QBs this year due to health?

Two of those surgeries were not required, they were elective. The ‘Tua is fragile’ narrative is fine, but at least be accurate and honest. If it’s as bad as people make out there’s no need to embellish.

As for your friend it would be interesting to hear some detail on what he knows and thinks, there have been a few medical opinions discussed here and one of them was that he would be less likely to suffer a re-injury due to the plates and pins in the joint. The more expert opinion the better.
They were only elective because by having the surgeries on his ankles allowed him to get back on the field sooner. If he had not had the surgeries he would have missed more playing time.

Selecting to have the surgeries on his ankles doesn’t diminish the fact that he had these injuries as well as a knee injury and a dislocated hip in less than two years. I would love to have a healthy Tua as the Dolphins QB but I just have serious doubts about him being able to remain healthy in the NFL.

Didn't Luke K, a complete bad ass, one of the toughest just retire at the age of 28 for health concerns. There is absolutely no guarantee when it comes to health. Gronk could still be in pads...he's what 29? Doesn't mean stop taking risks when drafting

Hell sounds like if Tua is the pick they will have to dump all the first round picks this year and some in the future too. If that's the case they won't be in a position to blow another pick on a qb, they have too many other needs. Unless you're talking about drafting a guy in the 6th or 7th round and I don't see the point in that because someone in that range isn't likely to beat out either Rudduck or Rosen.

Hi all. New guy here. Thanks for the warm welcome. Love this place.

So, we all know Tua is a fairly fragile QB. Alabama's OL was rated #3 and #4 in the two years he was the primary starter. He also was already out of the game in the third quarter in many of those games due to an extensive lead. So behind an impressive O Line, he got banged up enough to require four surgical procedures. He's now nursing a very interesting hip that could lead to early arthritis as well is likely to get re-injured according to my Orthopedic Specialist friend. Wherever he goes, there is a possibility he may not be cleared to play in a game until late in the first season or not until '21.

If Tua is the pick at #5, we have an interesting issue to ensure consistency at QB. Sure, we have Fitzpatrick now. But, would it be in our interest to take Tua AND Fromm? Maybe pay them both handsomely and have two eventual starters?

I know what I'm asking is dramatic, but how many teams in the last 4 years have not learned in a very painful manner that they are only as good as their backup QB. Tua is fragile behind one of the best O lines in college, to think he comes here and is suddenly never touched is foolish.

Please give your thoughts and remember I'm the new guy, so take it easy lol.

There are only two scenarios that a team could draft two QBs:

1. if someone too good to pass on falls to us at a position at which they are clearly the best player on the board.

2. if the team feels happy with two rookie QBs, one to start and one to back them up.

Should we draft two QBs? I’d lean towards no. We have Fitz as the veteran stop gap or backup for whoever we decide to draft. However, if someone like Fromm or Hurts falls as is available on day three, then who knows, maybe we do decide to pick them on day three as insurance or a cheap backup when Fitz calls it a day.

No. Rosen is on our roster for at least 2 more years and is dirt cheap. There are only 53 roster spots, so it would be unlikely we draft 2 QBs this year unless they plan to cut Fitzpatrick.

I think fans are way overthinking things about Tua. The organization will not invest a top 5 pick on a player with no plan to manage their health. If you watch Tua’s injuries they have been, for the most part, avoidable. Instead of extending plays and playing super hero ball, just go down like guys such as Brady/Brees/Manning. You can have a long and healthy career if you are coached right and make smart decisions on the field.

No! If you pick Tua your next 5 picks better better be OL, because the biggest issue with Tua is that he's injury prone .... and our OL suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. Don't waste one of those draft picks on another QB ... you need every pick for OL. But, I would also hire a very good team doctor.

Tua, love the person, like the football player, but I'm scared off by his health issues. He wouldn't even be a top 20 pick for me ... just too much at risk to draft in the top 5. I'd think about him at 18, but barring trades, not before.

If there's ever a tiny stop to catch your breath on the Tua bandwagon, you might want to check out Jake Fromm ... he might surprise you.

Great response. So, I guess make this Fitz's team this year until Tua is healthy and then draft somebody the following year?
Tua is some much of question mark?? Who knows how this is going turn out.. so is burrow??? Only time will tell. Should dolphins draft another qb why not.. if they pick Tua.. he is still hurt players. Risky pick

Got fix oline if u want any young qb to succeed in nfl or dolphins..it going take Tua at leasted 3 to 4 yr before you get ur invest in return. That if he is good in nfl...got stay healthy Tua...

I’m not doubting that, and like I said the ‘Tua is fragile’ narrative is perfectly reasonable, I just wish people would be honest or make themselves aware of the correct information. Using the amount of surgeries he’s had as evidence of his fragility is misrepresenting the truth.

Tua is not fragile but he does get hurt trying to extend plays, it's unfortunate that he's being labeled as fragile, he will be one of the best QB at that posistion.

lmao!!!! Ok

More often than the Redskins' one-off. It's probably more likely "the QB that the team is drafting high is NOT healthy enough" is not going to be picked high.
Just curious. . .
Two outcomes
1) a team takes Tua and no other QB, or,
2) a team takes Tua and another high round QB
Which do you think is the more likely outcome (reality)?
It was a concept floated for conversations sake. Tua specifically is there at #5 in theory due solely to health concerns. His hip is a serious injury. It's also an oddball injury that is hard to predict unlike ACL,s Shoulders, MCLs, etc that are much more common and a lot more well known. As such, we could draft a second QB this OR next year to ensure consistency at the position. In this year's FA and draft, there is not a better QB when healthy available (we can argue Burrow but moving up to #1 would take a barn full of picks and that's IF Ain would even do it). Tua is an amazing QB with he potential to be a HOF QB based upon his abilities so we don't want to miss out on him. However, if we go that route, we need to fortify the QB spot to make sure we have another starter behind him instead of just Backup Bob as so many teams have. To have this consistency, we need to make a QB another first round draft pick (I think) either this year or next. It's a new model to allow for maximum recoverability at the most important position. We need to value fixing the QB position higher than any other position because it's the most important in football. If becoming a great team is slowed by this to make sure we have it right, I'm ok with it.

Why, because he decided to test Rosen? He gave him a quick look and at the time the Oline was more than pathetic. It did improve significantly as the season went on but at that time Fitz was cemented in
Fitz wasn't cemented in. Flores said he would start whoever was the better QB each and every week. So, that wasn't Rosen clearly.

Right. Please tell me what part of Rosen you have seen in his two years as a pro and the fact he couldn't beat out Fitz that makes you feel he's a backup that can come in and win consistently. Sometimes the players that are cheap and easy to get are cheap and easy to get for a reason...

It's not misrepresenting the truth though. You don't have surgery to repair something that isn't injured or broken. His parts get injured and broken much more often than the other QBs who play at that level in college.
