Imus crossed the line no doubt but I don't think he should be fired. He's a shock jock and this is what they do. Is what he said offensive? No doubt about it but do I think Imus is a racist? No, I don't. He got caught up in the moment and spoke before thinking. Imus does a lot of good. I find it funny how all of the sudden he's a demon for this. He said it thinking he was funny, it backfired, and now he has to deal with the consequences. This isn't what Michael Richards did or anything of the sort, it's a stupid comment that went to far. A suspension in this manner is fine enough for me. I like Imus' show and I know from listening to him on the radio for many years that he's not a racist. Everyone just wants to make this a bigger issue then it is and this is just a way for guys like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to keep their name in the news. Let's be real, what did Al Sharpton get accomplished by having Imus on his show yesterday and scolding him for over an hour? Not much if you ask me. What Sharpton should have done was try to find out why Imus said what he said and look for a solution and try to help Imus and others who act and say things like this. Instead he's calling for his firing which won't accomplish anything because Imus will be picked up by someone else and back on air in no time. Black people make fun of white people all the time and get away with it. Why is there a double standard on the issue. And before you go out and call me whitey and pretend like I'm taking a stand for white people your wrong. I'm Puerto Rican baby (and proud) and I see things how I see them!
But let's face it everyone, there's a double standard in this country. Al Sharpton gets all up in arms over this but he has never condemned any black comedians for all the jokes they do on white people. I mean black people make fun of white people in their jokes a lot worse then what Imus says but no one runs out and calls them a racist. Imus does it and suddenly it's a world debate. Now granted, the platform Imus used to say this remark wasn't the right place, but what makes it any different then what Chris Rock says about white people during his act, or Jaime Fox, or Martin Lawrence or anyone else who sterotypes whites in their act. Why is that always acceptable but when a white person says something about a black in his routine, everyone goes quiet. Al Sharpton is a phony and Imus proved that yesterday when he pimped Sharpton about Sickle cell. Al Sharpton frontin like he's trying to help the community with the disease yet he knew nothing about it. He didn't even know how much the goverment spent on it last year. Say what you want but there is, and always will be a double standard!
A white person making fun of a black = racist
A black person making fun of a white = funny
Why is that?
P.S. I also give props to Imus for not hiding which he easily could have done. He's facing the music and not hiding like a coward. I don't agree with what Imus says but how come there is never an issue when he calls Hillary Clinton a cow and calls every white politician names far worse then this but when he says this, he's treated like a Nazi. Granted what he said was wrong (I'll say that again) but people are making this into a bigger issue then it should be IMO!
