Jason Allen (not looking like a starting caliber player)

I thought Allen was a complete safety prospect but like I said by watching him play the last 2 games, it is evident to me he is a pass defending specialist.

I hear what your saying though.

But thats up to Coach Saban and where he wants to play him.

I dont think he'll lose too much of his speed as he doesn't need to gain 50 pounds.

Just some added muscle to be able to have more strength and not get run over anytime he tried to tackle anyone .01 pounds heavier than him.

:sidelol:...oh wait, that was lame...:nono:

Here are just some positives for you silly little uninformed naysayers:
  1. Saban drafted a need position, not a position the silly fanboys with no knowledge of football wanted. For example, we didn't draft Chad Jackson. Boohoo. We are now having trouble deciding on who will be our 5th and possibly 6th WR. Most teams would kill for that "problem." (P.S. Gators players are overrated)
  2. The only reason I know of that Jason Allen was available at that spot was the questions over his injury. Our doctors found that it wasn't permanent, so Saban pulled the trigger.
  3. He is learning two positions of need, which requires time to learn especially in a complex system such as Saban's.
  4. Him being drafted provides hours of humor for those of us with anything resembling football knowledge as the ridiculous bust posts from "fans" 2 weeks into the preseason pile up like the contents of my toilet after a night of penny beers and a morning of menudo.
yes sir

Thats not entirely accurate.

RB was running over people back in his college days.

BUT, he did bulk up this off-season due to RW being suspended and having been in the off-season training program with the team the entire time.

Here's an article from his own personal website.

I can see your point, but Ronnie was seen as a "pound it" RB before the draft. So, with his workouts, he has not changed his running style by getting leaner and gaining muscle. Allen on the other hand, would have to change his style a bit if he wanted to bulk up. In my opinion.

I have no doubt Allen will improve his pass defending abilities given it is ALL mental rather than physical. Run defending is a problem because it is ALL physical. Mentally, he has the technique like I said in the other post. Allen run support is not much of support to put it another way. Maybe that is why Miami signed Renaldo Hill?? He racked alot of tackles last year with Oakland, but he as well is lean.

Being able to deliver a pop at the point of attack seemes to come from the hips. Allen did have a serious hip injury, so I would say they both correllate.

I went to Tennessee for four years and therefore saw Allen play his whole time there. If I'm not mistaken, he led the team in tackles his junior year. He was also having a very good year until he hurt his hip. He was a very versatile player and a leader on a good defense.

Give him more than a week. Defense, while not quite as complicated as offense, still takes time to learn. It is also an adjustment to go from safety to corner and something he may not be comfortable with just yet. We got a player who was a proven starter for a good defense in college. Some of the others like Cromarte are very young and very inexperienced. Allen should have a leg up on them once he gets comfortable with the system.

Tackling stats don't tell you if the defender got run over but held on for dear life to bring the RB down with him, or if it was a "Sean Taylor" tackle. A tackle is a tackle but the form of the tackle sets a huge statement. JAson Allens tackling ability might of been assumed to be excellent by the way of his stats in college and by tehe word of mouth that the Tennesse coaches talk about his "williongness to make a tcakle" but, evaluating his play in 2 pre-season games show that run support is the weakness in his game.

When you have 100 tackles as a safety that means you have some kind of ability to tackle a person. And the SEC usually has good running backs. I am not some crazy UT fan who isn't rational. I just think Allen has the ability to make plays by either tackling or defending the pass. Once he picks up the system, he should show everyone that ability.

I think Jason Allen needs a full year under his belt, including the offseason training program, before we can fairly assess him. In the meantime, our secondary is the weakest link on our team (yes including the O-line), so he's going to have to learn by his mistakes this year as he's going to see plenty of action. Saban knows this, so he's throwing him out there to the wolves...

to me he seems more of a centerfield speedy type of pass defender that isnt afraid to stick his nose in on run support, which is what we have lacked, last year we had no speed in the secondary. i think he is a great fit for us, i just hope he can come around and show us some signs. i was hoping he could contribute this season...

Very untrue.

This is why we never draft QB's other than Marino, they'd be driven out of town after their first incomplete pass in a mini-camp.

Well, I have to admit, I was and still am very critical of this whole Jason Allen experiment. The guy looks absolutely lost. I don't care about the time he's missed. I think back and look back to the rookie seasons of Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Roy Williams and I am thinking we got owned with this pick. I questioned the pick from day 1. I'm extremely dissapointed that we passed on guys like Winston Justice, Chad Jackson, Antonio Cromartie, and Manny Lawson for this guy. I am a big Gators fan and watch alot of SEC football and this guy was nothing special at Tennessee.. I am hating this pick more than ever now. I know everyone will hate my opinion and say it's only preseason. That's a bunch of crock. There's plenty of guys out there making plays even though it's preseason. I hope he ends up being good, but wow is he making Saban look like an idiot for reaching and drafting him so early.
a secondary that has allowed 554 passing yards in two games is somewhat worrisome, and Allen has been directly responsible for about half those yards. He better shape up soon......

Thats why he needs to bulk up big time. Ala Ronnie Brown.

Unfortuntely, thats going to happen next off-season so for now we just need to live with what we have.

I just hope that Coach Saban DOESN'T go after a backup running back when I believe we need more secondary help than anything.

If people are calling about our WR's, I'd try and get a solid CB to replace what we thought we had this year in Will Poole.
Excellent idea.

You comment on Ed Reed, Sean Taylor and Roy Williams Rookie SEASON. Talk to me when Jaon Allens SEASON starts.
