Looking into Miller & Vernon's stats through 3....did we make the right decision?

He does have more rushing yards but as a team we are avg more per carry at 4.1 to his 3.6. I liked Miller but he is struggling over there.

Our average is inflated because of Tannehill. Power running always averages less than zone running. 3.6 is usually the average of the very top running backs.
The 3.6 are not that bad considering they are running him up the middle a lot.

You stated that the new HC wanted to run more and Miller couldn't do it. Those "rinky dink" stats prove you definitively wrong. I will agree that he should have gotten more carries because of how successful he was when given them.

How did he prove anyone wrong?

Campbell wanted to run the ball more, not less, but he didn't believe miller could do it. Thats why miller has few gakes where he even sniffs 20 carries.

Thats why Cian over here had to throw out some random bs ****, about 10+ carries. 10 carries is not a lot of carries. He just picks and chooses random bs to try and prove his point.

This random rinky dink football outsiders stat means nothing. It actually proves me right. Miller at his best is a 14 carry RB.

The more carries you give him , all you end up with is dimished returns. Texans are finding that out now as we can see by his 0 TDs and plummeting average.

Miller isn't a workhorse. He's a good player, but no workhorse.

He wasn't in college, he wasn't in Miami, he won't be in Houston.

Im almost certain I saw OV get his weekly 15 yd penalty in the 4th qt this past week.

I liked OV but he was not a game changing player IMO so no way worth the $ he got but good for him. As for Miller big fan but don't think he was a work horse back but wish we could have made it work with him.

The situation:

Washington trails by a point with about six minutes to play in New York. 2nd down and 14 for the Redskins.

Kirk Cousins drops back to pass, it's nearly picked off! The Redskins are now facing 3rd and 14. Giants players are exchanging high fives, laughing and slapping.... but wait! Wait! There's a flag! I wonder what it could be?

Oh. It's just OV delivering a blatant helmet to helmet shot on Kirk Cousins that was easily avoidable. 15 yards, first down.

Watching that "roughing the passer" penalty in real time was very very weak. Vernon goes completely unblocked. That roughing should be charged to the o-line.

Too high, it's helmet to helmet. Lowers himself, it's spearing. Goes for the legs, it's roughing. Lame call IMO

Even if we had paid both these guys or even one of them - we would still suck!

And their stats would be the same or worse.

The disease of this organization runs deep.

We are like the Lions of the 80's or the Saints of the same era - or the Patriots of the 70's -man do we suck.

I do believe in Gates - he will get it done - but the rot is so deep in this organization its gonna take a while!

Lamar needs open run lanes. It's that simple. We schemed him open for most of his big runs and his 4.5 ypc was a function of those schemed wins, not OL dominance or RB dominance. With Houston asking him to carry the ball that much, he will need OL dominance because scheme can only get you open runs about 10 or 12 times a game. When you have 30 touches, you need the OL to open those run lanes. He is the same runner he used to be. Put him into a secondary and watch him outrun people. But, if you require him to break through arm tackles, he isn't that type of back.

Vernon was the case of a good and ascending DL being the recipient of being on a DL with Suh and Wake. He rarely saw double-teams, and often had the blind side solo. He was going to put up numbers in a contract year ... and he did, and we thank him for that. But, he came out in the perfect year, with no real pass rushers coming out, so we simply couldn't afford him. He knew it, we knew it, so either we sign him a year earlier, or we let him walk. With the offers he saw, we were never going to stand a chance. He isn't worth that kind of money, and all parties concerned realize this. I wish him luck, but it's time to move on.

We are building a team. If these guys are going to be cornerstones, re-sign them with a year or more left. If not, we need to be at peace with letting them find greener pastures. Honestly, if we had both players today they wouldn't make much difference. Miller would have the same issues that all of our RB's are having ... no holes through which to run. Vernon hasn't performed as well as Mario Williams, so he would be an expensive rotational guy who starts in front of Wake and shifts to the weak side (with Williams shifting inside next to Suh) for obvious passing downs.

Disagree. That's a penalty 10/10 times - unless the QB is Cam Newton. Helmet to helmet on a defenseless player is an automatic personal foul.

Wasn't even that big of a hit, Vernon followed thru with a push. Soft.

Newton removes himself from the passing equation when he leaves the pocket and becomes a runner.

Sounds like Vernon's hit could have cost the G-Men the game. Negated a late int. Where have we seen that before. Last year vs Jags

Our DL is horrifying, running game nonexistent, our free agent savior Maxwell is no good and the one player we gave up 3 picks for in this year's draft has hardly been on the field. If you consider the 4 picks that we gave up for Caroo and our oft injured running back from Alabama could have been used on other positions to fill up some of the holes we have on this team then resigning the likes of Shelby, Mathews, Miller, Grimes and OV look like a much better alternative than where we are at right now.

OV is not worth $18 million per season. That amount is simply ridiculous for him. That type of money is what you would pay a dominant do-it-all DE who is an annual all pro
