Patriots defensive end Mark Anderson is en route for a free-agent visit with the Miami Dolphins, reports Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times and Scout.com.

Anderson, who was one of the Patriots' best free-agent signings last year, played on a one-year, $1.375 million contract in 2011 and revived his stock with a 10-sack regular-season (and 2.5 sacks in the playoffs).

Now he's in position for a raise.

Anderson is one of the more compelling Patriots free agents because he wasn't a full-time player (47 percent of the snaps) over the course of the year. But when thrust into more full-time duty, he played well.

The Patriots had discussions with Anderson's reps prior to free agency, but similar to running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, they couldn't find a middle ground.

Now the Dolphins are jumping into the mix.

Solid if we pull it off.

Very interesting guy that I thought would have had more play...

Here comes the second phase of FA...buyers' market time.

If the Pats throw you away a lot of time that means your done. Don't touch.

IDK about that, R. Seymour, A. Samuel, Vrabel, Branch, Cassel have all went on and done well.

The Pats want him- he signed a 1 year contrct last year and then played great for them, they want him back.

I have to agree the Pats only take our best while leaving crumbs and left overs...

In seven seasons he has had two years with 10+ sacks. 12 in 2006 and 10 in 2011.

He is only 28 years old(younger than Wake) and you put him opposite an elite pass rusher like Miami has, he could be tough to contain. He isn't Mario Williams, but he is a solid player and would greatly help our pass rush.

The guy can rush the passer always could..The Bears were dumb to get rid of him..He is bad against the run.But as a situational pass rusher or a spell for Wake he fits right in.

I actually think this guy could be a pretty good pickup if we can get him on a reasonable contract.

This guy ran a 4.62 at the combine and had a 42" vertical. He'll be 29 years old this season. Might be a very nice complement to Cam.

Great pickup...never really had anyone opposite him,so this will be nice.had 12 sacks as a rookie
