Mark Duffner to be new LB coach

Two years later Philbin and Coyle finally got the guy they wanted.

If you might recall, when Philbin was filling out his staff in 2012, Duffner was one of his major targets to add to the coaching staff. Duffner worked with Coyle in Cincinnati and Philbin in Green Bay. The plan was to bring Duffner in as the linebackers coach and also give him the title of assistant head coach. When the Jaguars refused to let him leave, Philbin had to settle on bringing George Edwards in as the linebackers coach.

Not sure anyone can really "hate" this move.

I have a feeling this was more coyle's decision rather than philbin's.

Agreed, back in 2012 the reports were that Coyle wanted to bring Duffner along.

I think the assitant head coach title they wanted to give him was an attempt to try and pry him away from Jacksonville. They didn't bite.

There really isn't anyone else to blame these days now that Sherman and Ireland are gone. The scapegoats have to be the Head Coach and Owner since Lazor is still not accountable for any past problems, yet. My biggest gripe, as with most on the board, is how passive Philbin is, but I'm still hopeful he can lead this team to the next level with Tannehill.

I take it this guy is good - experienced nonetheless, but I don't want to Google him. However, us fans do get kind of concerned when we keep showing the tendency to hire coaches with either no experience, or from losing organizations.

Would you hire a guy to be the top chef at your restaurant, if the food sucked at the last place he was the head chef at?

The jaguars linebackers are actually pretty damn good, cant complain.

Jacksonvile Jaguar, Paul Posluszny (spelling?) was one of the most prolific tacklers in the NFL last season. Let's hope that Duffner brings him with him because Wheeler needs to improve significantly or get cut. After watching the Seattle and San Francisco Defenses last night, their superiority in Linebacking personnel is self evident. It may be good drafting and good coaching, but both appear to be a mile ahead of us (cough Wheeler, cough).
The Duffner appointment shows that Joe's immediate reaction to Edwards' departure was to go to someone he knew. The linebackers appeared to be one of our biggest defensive problems, Duffner needs to make a difference. It will be interesting to see if Jelani Jenkins has the potential to make it.

If the recipe is good, and the cooks that are cooking the food poorly (head chef doesn't always cook everything) then yes, I would.

There are a few things I really like about this hire.

1. Production. Last year the Jags linebackers were solid, good tacklers, and productive.
2. Experience, but most recently with Gus Bradley. Gus is a dude who can coach up a defense and hopefully some of those aggressive tendencies were adopted by Duffner.

In the end I want a guy who will get the players to perform, put forth a full effort every down, and have the fundamental tools. I'm less interested in having a higher ceiling than a higher floor, if you know what I mean.

Can't complain, he's extremely experienced and has had success. It's funny how every position coach is being pushed to seek the top job even before getting their original position fully down. And then people wonder why the majority of these "up and coming" coaches always seem to fail...
