Matt Roth A Unstoppable Force

Taylor is the fastest guy off the ball, which could be argued with Freeney as well. Trace armstrong I think is one of the more underrated players. Armstrong rarely made mistakes and was solid against the run and the pass. Why is there so much hype about Roth?....almost reminds me of the hype about Tony Mandarich way back in the late 80's?
most of the hype is because of this http://homepage.mac.com/scothawk/iMovieTheater58.html and of course because he is a fin :D .

He's not THAT hyped.

I don't see Roth being a flop, but who knows....i do think he'll take a year or so to really develop into a solid starter. I can't think of a single DE that came in and dominated his rookie year...can you?

Did you see Alex Van Pelt in college? He broke most of Dan Marino's records. He's gonna be a beast in the NFL and will break Mannings records.

Oh wait....

There you go. Nice comparison.

"Wahhhhhhhhh! I didn't like what i hear! I disagree, i think Roth will set the sack record and have 200 tackles based on...well...nothing. "

Why don't you get over the fact that he's a rookie playing on a team with one of the best pass rushers in the game, and plenty of FA vets...

You don't hear a word about the Bills draft because there aren't threads about it. I don't care if you respond to my posts, but why be stupid about it, i didn't say anything wrong...and i bet if you asked the majority of people who know anything about football they'll tell you the same.

I know he is a rookie. My point is you decide to come on a phins board and bash him (Roth) for what? Why? Because a fan is optimistic....you do recognize that this is a "phins" board and he is a phins fan...right?

Also, the OP didn't ask the majority of people anything...he came on a phins message board to talk about the potential of a rookie he liked.

So you being a Bills fan have a choice...either A, let the guy harp on about Roth being a stud, or B, Bash him (Roth) and pop the air out of another phins expectations...good job Bills fan you did us on this board all a favor. We like it better when it comes from a fan of a rival team....no vaseline huh Los??
Another feather in your cap eh?

:rolleyes2

Show me where I "bashed" him. Sorry, but Roth isn't a flawless player, he has criticisms.

I gave pros and cons about Roth....

BTW, isn't this a message board for discussing opinion? I don't think I was abrasive in my posts, unless someone starts with me.

On second thought, you're right...Thats pretty harsh. :shakeno:

Matt Roth is looking like he could be a dominant defensive end; but I dont think anyone will ever be better than Jason Taylor, at least not in a Dolphins uniform. JT is a dominating force at any position on the front seven but he tear through the best tackles at right end. Trust me, I am a huge Matt Roth fan but the likes of JT come around mabey once a decade

guys guys guys i'm all for optimism but just because someone like losman7 comes in here and offers an honest opinion about the matter doesn't mean we have to bash him!! c'mon guys losman7 has offered a insightful viewpoint (apart from the "meathead" comment- that was uncalled for) that brings your optimism back down to the reality that roth is a rookie and he will have his fair share of ups and downs in his rookie season and his entire career for that matter and you've bashed the man. Surely we are more mature than that fellow finfans. I know it is frustrating having all these bills fans on a fins website (trust me i know all about it) but to be honest a few others presented a view on roth quite the same as losman7 and they escaped unreasonable judgement because they're finfans. Let's keep it civilized, and if a rival fan has something to chip in with listen to it all the same (unless its trash talk).

I don't mean meathead in a bad way really... I consider a guy a meathead when he's got intensity like roths, that can sometimes lead to a lapse of judgement...and possibly a penalty.

Roth hits QB's late sometimes.

Every team has guys that are so intense that they pop a QB late, kick the ball, dumb plays that you have to accept because its part of there game.

At least he's not a dirtbag like Rodney Harrison

yeah i know what you mean. Justin Smith, Matt Willig, Eric Barton are all guys that pop into mind from last season.

I believe Matt Roth has the potential to be a Simeon Rice, hes got speed, and hes got a ton of strength, his moves do need work, but he has a great first step which catches alot of linemen off balance, allowing him to pancake them. He did the same move in almost every game and ended up with a sack alot, and if not a sack he pressured the qb and gave him a nice pop before he fully released the ball. So I believe he wont have as much trouble with late hits as you all think he will. He'll be a huge asset to this team, and will compliment our line really well. As for Alabi, he could be a great OL because Marco Rivera from the Packers was picked in a late round and now hes a top 10 lineman, you gotta give the guy a chance, and hes gonna do well learning discipline from Jeno James who is the heart and soul of our OL. He works his arse off everyday and tries to get better, he wants nothing but success and thats a huge void that we needed to be filled and did.

hmmmm interesting comparison. i can see where your coming from too, they are quite similar but i don't think roth has the football smarts or ability to read the offense that vrabel has. Being a DE Roth has more strength and if put at OLB for a certain situation i think their blitzing abilities would be very similar.

if he couldn't play outside linebacker in college, why could he in the pros?
