MERGED: Diversity Group Upset With Mueller Hiring

Not exactly there are some whites to talk bad about blacks in comedy, come to DC, believe it or not. Of all places that's the last place I expected to see that..But there's way more examples of the street going the other way...really think about that...think about it in your personal life.
:)

thought about it, and still feel the same. "minorities" can do and say so many things that a white person could NEVER say and get away with!

Once again I agree with you, Dol-Fan Dupree. The scariest one was atop the thread, thinking affirmative action had been outlawed and virtually rejoicing at the thought.

My dad is a sociology professor. I've read plenty of texts including recent studies. Anyone who thinks this was an issue of 25-50 years ago and not appropos today is sadly base ignorant. The media and therefore our impressions may have changed, the hiring practices have not.

Affirmative action should be stopped, I can't beleive how minorities can not be completely mortified at the fact that they are so inferior to the white man that they needs laws making it manditory to hire them or "give'em a shot". I am in business for myself and ANYONE trying to tell me who to hire especially based an race will get a middle finger shoved in their face. This is an old outdated issue that was a completely moronic idea in the first place.

You defintely must be young and don't know anything about this subject, go read up on what affirm. act. is about, and then come and make a more intelligent post on the subject..

Look guys, this is how it works in America today. You have to be PC all the time except when you are making fun of white guys. That's just the way it is today.

Who cares what these guys think. This isn't their team. It belongs to Wayne H the last time I checked. I can't stand people who act this way when they have no say in the matter. They need to deal with reality, and realize we're not signing GM's just for the sake of making them happy....

There are black and white players, coaches, and GM's. How many of each is irrelivant. The next thing you know they'll be complaining there aren't enough NFL stadiums being built in minority neighborhoods!!!

PHINZ RULE!!!

I almost didnt read this thread because I knew I was going to get pissed at some of the ignorant and misleading statements. I was right. First of all, as an African American, I am quite pleased we hired Randy Mueller.
However, to all those people who say big business always hires the best person for the job STFU! Or explain to me Rich Kotite, Dennis Erickson, Dave Wannestadt! Not that Art Shell was the greatest coach (cuz he wasnt) however, if those clowns deserved another chance he sure as hell does.
Secondly, I agree with the posters who say it shouldnt be about race, but unfortunately racism persists and if people dont complain then change wont happen. Its really sad to see that some people on this board are using the same arguments that some of our Supreme Court justices used in upholding Plessy v. Ferguson. (Separate, but equal, for those who didnt pay attention in history class) (note: Plessy v. Ferguson was overturned for those who have no idea what I am talking about!)
I am inclined to agree with the posters, who say its all about money, not race. I believe its starting to move in that direction. I mean look at the OJ Simpson case, we all know he is guilty as hell! However, he was rich and he got off. John Hinkley shot the damn president and he gets to come home and visit. Why because his family is rich! If you or I shot the president we would be under the jail.
Finally, in response to some of the posters. As far as the poster who said he didnt get into the CA school even though his SAT grades were higher than some minorities. I am inclined to say that is BS! First, quotas are against the law! Second, just because your SAT is higher than someone's doesnt mean you are more qualified. Contrary to popular belief there are more factors involved in the admissions process than SAT's and race. To the poster who had the audacity to complain about BET! Why are you whining? Every channel since TV has been a popular medium has been dedicated to the entertainment of our caucasion population. It has just been in the last 20-30 years you have even seen blacks on TV with any regularity. So please go back to the blog site where you got that bs statement from! Because that was not original thought on your behalf because i have read that before too.
Also, the diversity group is obviously an African-American advocacy group, so of course they arent going to be going to bat for Gays, women, or hispanics. I mean do Right wing Conservative groups go to bat for the Log Cabin Republicans? Not really to answer your question, yet they are all Republicans. So don't wonder why the Diversity group or whatever they are called are not going to bat for other minorities!
Well this was way too long but hell I was bored! I personally just want to win! If the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan could get us a SB win, I would support him.

Well, said.

I still don't get why its so wrong and gets so many people steamed that this group is asking for a more open process. I.M.O. the process should be as open as possible otherwise people will go with what they are familiar with and their horizons won't be expanded. Expanding horizons are good for all of us I.M.O.

That is because most stadiums are built in minority neighborhoods. Just like most inter/intra states. Examples; I-95 and Dolphin Stadium. They are put there for a reason. How would you like all of that traffic out in the suburbs?

I understand what you're saying, and I do tend to agree with a lot of it..I guess at this point, ppl still see a slave\owner visual...and I'm also guessing that now that there's a lot of ex players out there, more minorities want to try the admin side of the house too..but good point, never a simple answer, is there?

Thats what I see.

Racism still occurs to this day. Some blacks dont treat whites like they treat blacks. example - a wendys near here has all black people working there ( and has always been all black), and the owner is black. Is that racism? I'll let you decide. Alot of whites are racist too im sure though. Its a two-way thing nowadays. I truely believe this group is trying to do the right thing, but they arent doing it "right"

And there are a lot places that I go that are the complete opposite. Blacks have to look for each other. No one else will and I sure as hell am not counting on you to do so.

Not as Black or white :D as that Justa..Blacks are held accountable too. Didn't the guy just say he doesn't like Cris Rock anymore after seeing his standup comedy..there's consequences for everyone's actions.

I think it's hard for white people (caucasians) to really understand and realize why people of color get upset when people of color aren't even considered for a position. If you take a look at history, we have come a long way. Look at our beloved sport of football. There was a time when blacks weren't given a chance to play QB because it was a "thinking" position and there obviously weren't any black players that could think. Black QB's were always being turned into WR's or DB's because all that required was athletic ability. Now, look at all of the great black QB's that we have simply because they were given a chance. People back then were also saying "may the best man win" and "give the job to the best player" also but when you're not giving people the opportunity, it's very easy to know who the "best man" is. The same goes with blacks and Head coaching positions. Look at what Marvin Lewis has been able to do in Cincinnatti. If you don't look at that and think that he is doing one of the best coaching jobs with an organization that has been nothing but awful for years on end you are kidding yourself. And how long did it take Marvin Lewis to "prove" himself worthy to be a HC? Ironically, David Shula didn't have to go through as many hoops, didn't have the resume Lewis had, and most likely got the jobbecause of his father. Now it's the FO.
Face it, things have to change and they are going to change. There are many capable and talented people of color that can get the job in the coaching ranks and the FO ranks and when they aren't even being considered or even given a legit chance, that tends to tick the affected group off. It makes you feel powerless.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm a white male, evidentally not a minority unless you live in souther california or south florida...

Anyway, I sent a resume to wayne and didn't get an interview, they hired Dave the looser instead who has never had a successfull team anywhere...

I didn't cry racism he just had a better resume then me as did evidently several other candidates.

Who cares who gets interviewed and who doesn't, everyone simply puts out what they have to offer and the best person in the owners eyes will get the job.

The "black man" doesn't have it any harder than the white man and hasn't for almost 30 years, however they do have better excuses...

In my business I associate with all races and I will say that a lot of stereotypes are somewhat accurate. If you dress the part, act the part, and break free of the excuses and the "being held back attitude" you or any person of any race has an equal chance to live out whatever their own version of the american dream is. However nobody will bet it if they expect it handed to them just because of their skin color...
