MERGED x 2: Cam Wake Hold-Out Thread

Wake is 30 yrs old and has only played in the NFL 3 yrs. I recall Paterno referring to him as an enigma while at Penn State. He was very talented, but didn't always show it on the field. That is HIS fault and the reason why it has taken him so long to be an impact player in the NFL. Thus HE is the reason why he has a short career and as a result, a reduced earning potential.
Realistically, with the new coaching staff and philisophy, I don't believe this team will be ready to compete with the elite teams for 1-2 more yrs (assuming Ireland drafts well and Philbin coaches the team up). At that point Wake will be 32 yrs old and on the downside.
I think they should try to trade him now. I think a 2nd and a 4th would be reasonable.

I said this earlier in offseason but im fine sign him to a olid contract or get value for him. I think we are bad cap shape and thats why it hasnt been done.

He has got 3 or 4 good years left. Jason Taylor was still playing till late 30s the WAKE has never missed a game or missed workouts. This is the type of teammate you want to resign. This is a player that makes a championship team. Works hard plays hard without getting injured and is exceptional.
Just crazy to want to trade him. I understand why Marshall was traded but trading WAKE would be a fiasco and the be the worst thing to happen since WELKER was traded for a second round pick.

this type of thinking is why We are at the bottom of the division.

650k ?? Really?? Don't see him practicing 1 day without a new contract ... PERIOD!!

I think the fans will back him & the FO will get ANOTHER black eye ... and we natives will grow increasingly restless!!

hell when he saw the money we spent on a nickel back he had to be like wtf lol

When I see these guys getting payed at least half a million dollars to play a sport I don't once feel sorry for them. No human is worth that much change.

I undertand your sentiment but if they dont get the money it just goes into the owners pocket. Its about what the market bares. I mean seriously its not worth 60 bucks plus 25 parking for a game but we pay it. Not to mention the 7 dollar soda the 10 dollar beer.

This whole thing and all these contract disputes piss me off. Now, I am NOT saying that Wake doesnt deserve an extension because he absolutely does. Im just mad because personally, I wont make 615K in my LIFETIME and there they are making it in a year.

Sorry I know off topic... just annoyed today.

615k is peanuts!! That's embarrassing really. NFL careers can be over in a game. You're lucky if you play past 32 years old in this league. That's 50+ years left of life (if you live into your eighties). You invested your whole life into football -- now what are you going to do? Players need to get paid while they can! The smart ones save their money wisely.

I have never attended a game so I am shocked to hear a beer is $10! How can they justify that? Please tell me that they are at least a litre!

He signed that contract...No one twisted his arm to sign
now he want's more $$$$$ Great he deserves more but
where is his character to honor his original contract.

Don't care about if he can get injured at any time and I believe Wake knew
this before he signed his contract otherwise he's an imbecile.

YOU HONOR THE CONTRACT...THEN STAY-GO AND GET WHAT YOU FEEL
YOU DESERVE.

The way Wake and his agent decided to go this route knowing we were
cash strapped with the salary cap is despicable by both Wake and his agent

I have lost so much respect for Wake that at this point I could care less if we trade him
for draft picks.

Well the other side of that coin is that the franchise doesn't always honor contracts either. They can terminate it at any time & often ask players to restructure and take less money. It's a two-way street in that regard, but I guarantee you players around the league are looking at what happened to Matt Forte. You're upset because this might affect the Dolphins, but if you were in his position you might not feel the same way. The guy is in his 30's & if he blows his knee out this year he may never get another shot at a big contract. The fact that the Dolphins are cap-strapped is the Front Office's fault, not his.

Cameron Wake may arguably be the ONLY player on this team deserving of a big contract. He is the one and ONLY thing ireland has backed into doing right in 4 years. The lone acorn we have stumbled across.

We are in this mess because of PRECISELY this problem... ireland pays mega$$$ to undeserving wannabes and ignores the PRODUCERS.

Wake is a PRODUCER. Welker was a PRODUCER.

ireland runs this team like a small-market baseball franchise... get a good player and keep him only up to the time he wants a contract, then trade him to the yankees for peanuts or cut him outright. We have become the marlins.

When you get outstanding production from a guy in this league, you LOCK HIM UP. Whatever it takes.

I seriously cannot believe the ireland SHILLS on this board coming on here this morning and calling for Wake's head on a platter. I want to keep Wake. I would HATE to see him shipped off in a move-up deal to get Tannehill, unless it is absolutely necessary. That is the only scenario in which I could see it justified, if there was no other option.

Anything short of that and ireland is a bigger MORON than we have known already. I have to wonder at this point if ireland isn't doing this INTENTIONALLY, to create a hole at the D edge that he will feel "compelled" to fill with #8 in order to take himself off the hook for not drafting Tannehill. I really think THAT is the way the man's mind works.

Wake should be the most "off-limits" player on this team to any moves. Lock him up.

Lost respect for him? He's been our #1 defender while making less than even our lowest backup. He's been quiet for 2 years given his performance and has been promised a new contract since before the lockout. The people you should lose respect for is the front office, which makes open and public promises to players, but will renege on them at the drop of a hat.

Normally, I think players should play out the contract. In this case, he was told last year the contract would get addressed. It is not. And he is vastly outplaying the contract. Pay the man, or trade him to someone who will.

It is amazing to me that the people who live on Ireland's nuts and make endless excuses for him are more than willing to ship Wake out of town. It really makes you think there's a large contingent of fans here who are just jets trolls ****ing with us. There is no one on this team more deserving to be rooted for than Wake. He's our best player and our hardest worker. Far and away the best addition by the Parcells regime. The man has thoroughly outperformed his contract. He makes less than Trusnik, Merling, our punter, our long snapper.. Pay the man. A generous 3 year extension is not going to sink the team.
