MERGED x 2: Cam Wake Hold-Out Thread

I'm always curious about the thread raters...almost 15 pages in, and 5 stars? Who is a Dolphin fan that likes the fact that Wake may be set to hold out?

And even on your chosen list, its somehow its a bad thing that he is 9th out of 75? Its a bad thing he is more disruptive per snap than Tamba Hali(roughly $12 million a year), Julius Peppers($14 million), and Charles Johnson($12 million)? He deserves far less than any of those players even though he performs better by your own measuring formula?

Hey buddy, PFF was your measuring formula, and your reasoning why he should be paid like Julius Peppers. You can spin it any way you want, but Cam Wake isnt getting that kind of money. Bottom line is he was not near the top statistically, only 2 years of starting experience, and being 30 years old. I love the guy and I thik we should pay him, but your'e crazy to want to pay him that kind of money. If Cam Wake is demanding Julius Peppers money, he's basically asking to be traded, cause it aint happening.

How can people honestly say Wake doesn't deserve a new contract, and have lost RESPECT for him? Seriously.. He's given us what 32 sacks over 3 years, so on average 10 sacks per year.. his contract over those 3 years amounting to that of some scrub taken in the 5th round or whatever. Come on, his production over these 3 years is more than enough to warrant getting a new contract.

Wake cannot be punished for missing voluntary workouts, but he stands to lose as much as $10,000 per day during the Dolphins' mandatory three-day minicamp in May or June. Wake's approach is expected to be determined primarily by the "pace and progress of negotiations." Miami will likely have to clear cap space before granting Wake his contract wish. He signed that contract...No one twisted his arm to sign
now he want's more $$$$$ Great he deserves more but
where is his character to honor his original contract.

Don't care about if he can get injured at any time and I believe Wake knew
this before he signed his contract otherwise he's an imbecile.

YOU HONOR THE CONTRACT...THEN STAY-GO AND GET WHAT YOU FEEL
YOU DESERVE.

The way Wake and his agent decided to go this route knowing we were
cash strapped with the salary cap is despicable by both Wake and his agent

I have lost so much respect for Wake that at this point I could care less if we trade him
for draft picks.

Lost respect for Wake, Seriously? He's one of the few players that's actually performed and busted his ass game in and game out. Reward him!! He's got a few good years left in him, he deserves to be taken care of. How anybody could take the owners side on this is beyond me.

When I see these guys getting payed at least half a million dollars to play a sport I don't once feel sorry for them. No human is worth that much change.

LOL a half million -- are you living in the 1980's?? A half million is absolute squat in professional sports today. Long snappers make that much! Sports is huge business -- would you rather have the billionaire owners just take everything? Careers can end in a single play. These guys have the rest of their lives to worry about -- you think the owners give two craps?

And if you're floored by 500k, Cam's current open market value is upwards of 10 million dollars a year-- that's just the way it is.

I have NO Issue with players holding out. There is NO Gauranteed Contracts in the NFL. TEAMS do NOT have to honor Contracts. Therefore NOTHING wrong with a player holding out.

Do you have the same loss of respect for the Fins Cutting Bell?

There is nothing wrong with Wake holding out at all. The man has never missed any kind of workout until now, and he could have easily demanded a new contract after his 14 sack, pro bowl year, but he decided he wanted to duplicate his success before asking for a new contract. After 2 years of leading this team in sacks, and a work ethic that sets the bar for everyone else on this team, he deserves to get paid.

"If he wants to be paid like Julius Peppers, he should be traded because he doesnt deserve it!!!"....even though he has outproduced Peppers, who got his own fat contract at 30. And i specifically stated that while Wake deserves to be paid that much he probably wont get it...from Miami. For various reasons mostly involving front office incompetence, not because he didnt deserve it. Which you continue to insist. Which you happen to be wrong about. Stats that you yourself link show that.

Every measuring tool that has been brought up has showed that Wake is a consistent menance to quarterbacks and he produces at a higher level than the majority of the league. Your opinion is that he doesnt deserve it...because, ugh, well, he just doesnt. Just because you found a different formula to follow, one that i had nothing to do with as what i showed had a set solid number and not a "plays per snap" ratio, doesnt change the fact that he played better than the majority of the players in the league, many of whom get paid more than what you feel Wake should be paid.

Keep making me laugh pal, you keep trying to revise the argument to the point of somehow linking stats that i had nothing to do with and saying "no, really, you linked it!!!". Its really just to funny.

Well the other side of that coin is that the franchise doesn't always honor contracts either. They can terminate it at any time & often ask players to restructure and take less money. It's a two-way street in that regard, but I guarantee you players around the league are looking at what happened to Matt Forte. You're upset because this might affect the Dolphins, but if you were in his position you might not feel the same way. The guy is in his 30's & if he blows his knee out this year he may never get another shot at a big contract. The fact that the Dolphins are cap-strapped is the Front Office's fault, not his.

Excellent post.
