MergedX3: The WR Thread

I believe that MIA can build on this year's AFC EAST CHAMPIONSHIP with just a few added pieces. I've discussed that by replacing Vernon Carey at RT with Jordan Gross and adding Matt Birk to man the Center position would UPgrade our OL. And adding a FS like Otowga from STL would upgrade our secondary.

Now, I believe that our WR corps is not in need of such a BIG change. Greg Camarillo is so much Pennington's go to guy that he can easily put up Pro Bowl numbers with Pennington. He was on his way to leading us in receptions and as QB friendly and as good a route runner as he is, he could put up Pro Bowl numbers next season. So I would probably keep him at the possession receiver opposite Tedd Ginn.

Now, if you look at the 5 WRs, Camarillo has a legit backup with Davone Bess, who is the perfect slot receiver. Brandon London is a perfect STs player and a BIG and FAST WR that can round out as the 5th WR.

With Wilford likely gone...we don't have a backup to push Tedd Ginn Jr.

This is where I believe we will add to the WRs next season. Enter Marvin Harrison. Marvin Harrison is the perfect, older veteran that can push Ginn Jr to greatness....or replace him in the starting lineup as the deep threat.

The reason a BIG WR target is not really needed is because of how QB friendly "both" Camarillo and Bess are....not to mention Harrison will be...

but we have 2 BIG REDZONE targets in our TEs David Martin and Anthony Fasano. Plus, we like to use two TE sets anyways...

By adding rookie TE as the 3rd TE to be more of a blocking TE, we can use Martin and Fasano more as BIG WRs....kind of like SD uses Antonio Gates.

That would UPgrade our WR for 2009:

Deep Threat WRs: T. Ginn/M. Harrison
Possession WRs: G. Camarillo/B.London
Slot Receiver: D.Bess

TE: A.Fasano/D.Martin/(rookie blocking TE)

Another idea would be to draft a KR/PR specialist in the Tedd Ginn Jr/Devin Hester/D Jackson mode in the 3rd round to be Ginn's backup and replace Bess as the KR/PR. In this case, you replace Harrison with the rookie.

so first you'd like to add Birk and now Marvin too?...those have been 2 very good players but how old do you want this team to get?

Ozzy rules!!

Our WRs are among the Top for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year WRs

In terms of yards:

Bess is 4th for rookies with 554 yards
Ginn is 4th for second years with 790 yards
Camarillo is 7th for third years with 613 yards (in only 11 games)

It looks like our Wrs are among the best of the future. I also don't understand why some of you guys are such critics of Ginn: He's only in his second year and with 790 yards hes performing at the top of his draft class.

ginn should have had that in his rookie year, because of where he was drafted no matter what

Great to see our young receivers coming along. We just need to add depth to the position and let them do their thing. We will be fine not adding a #1 WR next year. As much as I want one we have bigger needs that should be addressed.

I think Ginn's low numbers in his rookie year are definatly due to our terrible quarterbacks, Cameron, and how bad the team was

Ok, stop right there....

For anybody that has ever watched Antonio Bryant play, it is easy to see Antonio Bryant's athleticism. Wilford has never been known for his athleticism. Bryant was the only receiver on that Bucs team that warranted any attention, always dragging the extra safety with him, and he still produced. They aren't in the least bit comparable, other than age. Antonio Bryant will be 28 at the start of next season, Ernest Wilford was 29 years old when the Dolphins signed him......that is where the comparisons end.

Why is it that you argue at length about how Ginn is constantly double teamed and that is why he did not have better numbers, but praise a receiver who was out of the league last year for beating double teams? I guess I don't understand how a receiver who was out of football for a year is putting up better numbers than a "stud" high draft pick. Help me to see the light.

If it makes u feel better . . . he was SIXTH last year with no Jake, Ricky, Ronnie . . . Cleo and Beck at QB . . . horrible coaching.

Yea he was a RAW WR, one of the rawest EVER to be drafted top 10 . . . yea he was overdrafted . . . but instead of appreciating the development we are seeing this kid go thru, we knock him down because he isn't Calvin Johnson yet . . . come on bro . . . wake up.

Plus Ginn was behind Chambers and Booker last year . . . 2 former Pro Bowlers, get off of him.

Why are you saying that man? It's not his fault he was drafted early, if you would look past his draft spot he's a very solid receiver. Blame Cameron if you're not happy with his performance based on his draft spot, NOT Ginn, because I bet Ginn himself didn't even expect to be picked in the first round.

i still think eventually he would be the odd man out only because he is not a dare i say it a "parcells guy." bess is hustling on every play. ginn is not the play that did it for me was the first game of the year on that jump ball, that he did not make any effort to go after. yeah i know he redeemed himself here and there but still that is uncalled for.

He's getting there man, that kind of stuff can and most likely will be addressed in camp, but you just don't let go his of kind of talent. I can guarantee you if we let him go, he'll find a new home and one day become a very good player in this league .. and probably have us wishing we didn't let him go, like many players we've let go.
