http://www.thephinsider.com/2012/2/17/2807311/miami-dolphins-defense-remaining-a-hybrid-3-4-schemeWith the Miami Dolphins' recent coaching regime change, many expected the Dolphins to change from the base 3-4 defensive scheme utilized under previous defensive coordinator Mike Nolan to a 4-3 scheme. But, according to new DC Kevin Coyle, that's not where the Dolphins are headed.
"The days of saying we're going to line up and play a 4-3 or a 3-4 are somewhat distant right now in terms of the way the game has evolved," said Coyle told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.In fact the Dolphins are leaning toward remaining a 3-4 base defense - if you want to call it that. The Dolphins actually ran a four man defensive front, with Cameron Wake joining the defensive line with his hand in the dirt, more than any other formation last year.
"Keeping the quarterback off-balance, through pressure, through coverage, through disguises, will enable your guys to have more opportunity to make plays. There will be elements of both packages."
Maybe this can help to explain the difference.I just heard the franchise tag for DEs is $14 million. Why would Mario Williams be $22 million?
Williams is now a linebacker, meaning he would be categorized among linebackers when it comes to salary calculation. Franchising a player means you are guaranteeing that player at least the average of the top five salaries at his position and the average salary of the top five linebackers is roughly $10 million. Problem: Williams' current cap number is $18 million. Since Williams' cap number is greater than $10 million, franchising Williams means the Texans must guarantee him 120 percent of his current salary next season. It's the way the rule works, either the average of the top five salaries or a 120 percent of the player's salary, whichever is greater. In short, franchising Mario would commit the Texans to paying him over $21 million for the 2012 season alone.
Excellent work digging up that, Geforce. A $22 million franchise tag? No chance. Hell I wouldn't think they'd use even a $14 million franchise tag. I think they're happy with Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin as their OLBs.
Incidentally since this thread is enduro's thread...what's the difference between enduro and this pastor that's making national news because he claims he had a conversation with Jim Haslett at a volleyball game? Seriously. The only difference I can think of is that enduro actually has a history of some predictions based on his supposed ties with Jeff Ireland, that have panned out. The pastor guy has no such history, doesn't even claim to know Haslett, just says they were at a volleyball game and Haslett evidently spilled the beans on all this stuff about the QB position.
1. The pastor revealed his own name and the circumstances under which he talked to Haslett.
2. He said he specifically got the info from Haslett (enduro has only implied he knows Jeff Ireland. He's never come out and said it that I'm aware of).
I don't see how revealing his real name matters.
You're wrong about that. He's backed off on behalf of Ireland but he has said in the past specifically who he got the information from and why he was able to get it.
