*** official day one nfl draft discussion/"game" thread ***

Not particularly happy with this pick. Hard to get mad about Foster with everyone passing on him and not being privy to his medical/off-field. Think we should be able to fill guard spots without burning 1st round picks. But I also didn't view DE as the most pressing need like many on the board. It sounds like we had trade offers, and if we could've grabbed another 3rd it would've been a no brainer for me. Our run defense is our biggest weakness, and Harris doesn't do anything as an edge setter. He didn't test great either. I would've been much happier moving down and grabbing Willis and a 3rd ++.

Harris is a high floor guy with a high upside pass rushing ability, and you can never have enough pass rushers. But year 1 he's a situational guy that doesn't help us on the edge. Short-term this doesn't move the needle, and I want the needle moved more in the 1st round. It's not a horrible pick, but short-term it just isn't the best fit. He's not going to be a bad football player though and he's the heir to Cam Wake. I'll have to watch him in more detail, but that's the reports I've read.

And what the hell are you paying Andre Branch $9M a year for? Basically getting solid starter money to play early downs where he's a mediocre run defender. You pay that money to Warford and this offseason looks a lot better.

Field Yates @FieldYates
Atlanta just traded pick 31 and 2017 third and seventh round picks to Seattle for pick 26.

Thats what Seattle just got so yup I would gave traded out.

9 spots in the first for a late 3rd and 7th? Can't say I agree. Especially how that first round played out.

Good point bro. While I definitely want an LB more than a DE right now I don't teams necessarily need to spend a first rounder to get an effective LB. It would have felt nice to see the team address LB though since we were practically starting UDFA's two years ago and still clearly need another starter..

Still plenty of good LB prospects left.

Foster
Cunningham
McMillan

You guys complaining that defensive end is not a need are clueless. There is only one pure pass rusher on this roster (Wake) and he is 35 years old. If he gets hurt, Miami's whole pass rush is gone. Criticizing the player (Harris) is fair, but criticizing Miami for taking a pass rusher is just plain ignorant.

I think the criticism has a lot to do with drafting a guy that might not even start while we have a few starter spots open at other positions. Not to mention at least one other starter spot who's injury history is more concerning than Wake's.

It's not the worse pick but the draft seems too big for Chris Grier. Take the trade get the 3rd rounder you pissed away in 16.

DE is a need. Wake is 35, and if he gets hurt, the fins won't have a pass rush. The guy they picked up in FA is decent, but they needed to get an edge rusher to be opposite of Wake or groom to take Wake's spot

When Wake went down 2 seasons ago the pass rush was nonexistent. If this guy lives up to his potential we won't have that problem. Not in the drug program or an injury history. I'll take that.

Funny that the people asking if Harris will start don't understand that a LB would probably be a two down player for us depending on who he is. If Harris sacks the QB at the right time then who cares how many snaps he got. A sack is a bigger play than a tackle for a 5 yard gain

Ozzy rules!!

Why are people hung up on if he "starts"?
Who cares...If he's in there creating havoc on 3rd downs and in the 4th quarter that's what matters...that's what this team needs.
This defense couldn't stop anybody when it mattered. They had one of the worst adjusted pass rushes in the league.
This league isn't that difficult - it's about making your QB comfortable while making the opponents WB as uncomfortable as possible.
Hopefully Harris aids in that.

There appears to be good value/depth in the secondary, so hopefully that is still the case when they pick in round 2...and/or I'm happy that they seem to finally have a shared vision and plan under Gase and looking to find the best available players that fit the systems.

We rarely got offenses into 3rd own situations last year b/c we couldn't stop the run or get the off the field and gave up so many 1st downs on 1st and 2nd down. So how the **** does a a first rd pick do us any good when spent on a 3rd down pass specialist? Save your breath. It doesn't, awful pick. Especially with all the starter talent that was still on the board.

Yes, after reading the Mondo article, I called the pick to be Charles Harris. We will need to compare his game to McKinley and Foster. Sitting at 22 was watching the draft on NFL network and they said there have been lots of calls to move up.

Jesus anyone else see Takk after getting drafted? I understand that these are passionate alpha males, emotions are running high, he's fulfilled this promise to his grandma and she's since passed......but you get drafted and on national tv shout into a microphone held by Deon Sanders, drop an f-bomb, then shout "whatever, fine me late!"

What a ****ing head case.

Pick makes sense. Cant count the number of posts saying we need a Wake successor, there you go. Grier is drafring for the long haul...showed that last year too.

Love watching Goodell soak up the boos...He's starting to thrive on them, like mana from heaven.
