what about #3

You don't want to HAND anyone a title. Let alone your #3 guy.

I could see a mini-tourney. Final 4 type on a show. OR, just take the next top 2 guys and have them fight for the belt on PPV

UFC TV News

MultiChannel News reported last week that SPIKE TV and UFC are clolse to finalizing a deal where SPIKE would pay UFC more than $100 million for multi-year exclusivity on basic cable.

It isn't know how long the deal was for.

This was a big reason why the Henderson-Jackson PPV was moved to FREE TV on SPIKE.

Hughes-Serra match MOVED

Will now take place on 12/29 from Vegas

Not in NJ in November where Serra would have a huge home court type advantage. Reason was the start and end date of the Ultimate Fighter was moved

Also, Ortiz WHO WANTED THE REMATCH WITH Evans.......was asked by UFC if the October PPV would be ok. Ortiz is now saying he doesn't want to fight Evans and doesn't know if he wants his last UFC match vs Evans since it would be the final match on his contract and he knows he isn't getting re-signed by UFC

I'd have been quite suprised if BJ stayed at 155 and went after that belt.
Oh God, does this mean I have to see more Ken-Flo?
Please, anything but that.

ps. If you're dumb enough to eat 18 flying knees and still manage to win, you should get a free pass. very dissapointed about SHerk. the dumb part is, these dopes juice just to get through their training regimes. its not even about the fight.

Considering the fight was already scheduled I guess you would have been surprised.

Sean Sherk Plans To Challenge Drug-Test Result
MMANews.com

The following is an update on the Sean Sherk situation from Dave Meltzer's WrestlingObserver.com website:

Loretta Hunt reported on Fight Network radio that Greg Nelson has indicated Sherk will challenge the test result.

Because the fight was in California, and not Nevada, the commission doesn't have the power to overturn the result of the match.

UFC has not yet made a statement regarding the test result. Sherk has 30 days to request a hearing. If he fails to successfully appeal the test result, one would think UFC would have little choice but to strip him of his championship.

Cro Cop News

The shocking April defeat from Gonzaga inspired a new rise in the strongest Croat. Mirko Crocop wants to fulfill his UFC contract in such a way that his employees don't regret paying him 2.4 million USD. He has 4 fights remaining, first of which is against the Frenchman Chieck Kongo on September 8th in London. The Croatian gladiator takes his opponent very seriously, which is proved by the sparring partners who will join him during August. The 2 times K-1 World champion Remy Bonjasky is coming to Zagreb, joined by a great standup fighter Gilbert Yvel and the legendary thai boxer Ivan Hippolyte.
"I have decided to train harder on my standup, in a 80:20 ratio. It's important for me to defend the takedown, I'm good enough on the ground now, but because of the ground fighting I neglected thai boxing. However, that's why I'm visited by todays best [standup] fighter."
Crocop is also joined by a man that knows how to handle Kongo, Yvel, who knocked out Kongo 3 years ago. Kongo is a much better fighter now, which is why Bonjasky is here, a specialist in knees and leg strikes.
Another news in Mirkos training will be a cage, expected to be delivered next week by the people from UFC.
"It's a bit smaller version than the original, since the original can't fit in my gim, but it will be octagonal. To leave nothing to coincidence, I must train in the cage in the future, since it's different than the ring", Mirko explains.

 Looks like the fire is back.

The real Main Event of this Card. :D

Today the UFC officially announced the match-up that will feature the debut of MMAWeekly’s current #1 light heavyweight fighter, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua as he takes on former Ultimate Fighter winner, Forrest Griffin in September at UFC 76.

Originally, UFC President Dana White had announced that Shogun would debut against fellow Brazilian heavy hitter, Lyoto Machida, but this is the official news that Shogun will now take on Griffin instead.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has been on a collision course with the UFC’s 205lb division for some time now and after months of speculation as to who the former Pride Grand Prix winner would take on, that task belongs to Forrest Griffin.

Shogun was named MMAWeekly’s Fighter of the Year in 2005 and after suffering an injury in a fight with Mark Coleman that gave him only his 2nd loss of his career, he has returned and reeled off an impressive series of victories over fighters such as Kazuhiro Nakamura, Alistair Overeem and Kevin Randleman.

Shogun enters the division with as much hype as any fighter has had coming into the UFC since Mirko CroCop debuted some months ago and he will be on a fast track with likely only 1 or 2 fights before he would challenge someone for the UFC light heavyweight title.

Shogun also currently holds a TKO victory over champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson that happened during his run to the Grand Prix title in 2005.
