First of all, there is nothing wrong with the way Philbin handles press conferences and second of all if you think a good press conference translates to a good football coach then you clearly haven't watched many Belichick pressers.

Philbin is a dull bulb. The way he handles himself and relates to players inspires no confidence whatsoever... I can tell just from a few interviews and press conferences that Lazor is a guy that can relate to players, motivate them and get the most of them. Philbin has demonstrated over and over that he doesn't have that ability. Even without seeing Lazor coach one down of football, I would still rather have him as head coach over Philbin, a coach has proven to be mediocre at best.

I agree with the former, however it is clearly for too early, and really shouldnt even be in any serious discussion, that Lazor would make a better HC than Philbin.

I don't know if he would or not, but I know that Philbin isn't any better than mediocre. If someone gave me the option of installing Lazor as HC today or losing him next year after a good year as OC, I would make him HC today, even not knowing if he would pan out or not.

How do you know he's no better than mediocre?

i already know where this is going. he will point out the last two seasons of 7-9 and 8-8.

There is a huge laundry list of reasons, but sure, we can start there.

In addition:
- He doesn't excel in any particular area that successful head coaches do, such as xs & os, motivation, delegation, etc.
- He doesn't connect with players
- He doesn't have control of the locker room
- Under his watch we witnessed one of the most embarrassing episodes in Dolphins history
- Under his watch the team imploded with 2 games to go and the playoffs on the line against teams with nothing to play for
- He doesn't fit the system to his players, he tries to force the players to his system
- He isn't an inspiring figure whatsoever
- He isn't a great game day coach
- His teams often come out flat, either at the beginning of games or after half time

The list goes on and on. Philbin is nothing more than your run of the mill coach. At best, he is a Jim Caldwell or Brad Childress - tepid personalities who can manage to bring the team to a championship game (and no further) with HOF-level quarterbacking, but are ultimately losers not fit for a head coach position.
