PFT Power Rankings - Dolphins at #31

The article is even sillier.

Apparently, if Lazor establishes a Tannehill to Wallace connection, then Miami is a playoff team. Otherwise, I guess we are in for a 3 win season.

PFT paid the author to write this rubbish.

It's not popular here, but, gun to head, I think the head coach is good for a couple of losses that shouldn't happen. I hope I am wrong. One mistake I've continually made is to write people off in football because everyone, and I mean everyone, gets beat. How you come back from it is where the winners shine. Philbin has the opportunity right here and now to show he is a top flight coach once and for all.

The offensive line added some building blocks, but the question is will the unit be ready in 2014? I'd say that's a unit that can be pretty darn upper echelon in 2015. In 2014, probably below average early. Dallas Thomas will be a first time starter coming off an injury when he couldn't come close to getting on the field. Shelley Smith's metrics show that he is a poor pass blocker. Pouncey is hurt. James is a rook. Turner isn't ready and is making a huge jump. You put this all together and what does the math get you?

I will say, I am optimistic about the O line coach. Hopefully he can can maximize the talent and get us on an upswing, and as I said get us ready for an elite unit in future years. I just can't see that as realistic early in 2014 but I can see them develop as time goes on and especially in future years.

This is the year for Tannehill to take the major step forward in terms of playmaking, i.e., game winning plays. He has the running mate in Jarvis Landry to get it done. Both OT's should be at least reasonable. He has an excellent O coordinator. I'm not worried about playoffs, record, anything. Just Tannehill. He does his job and does "all he can do" and then we can do whatever we need to do in the offseason around him including head coach if need be.

First off What a lazy article. he even says Dion Sims will push Clay under camp battles!

If you go off the last two games of last season- Then 31 seems about right.
If you go off the whole season and offseason thus far- I have Miami around 15 middle of the pack like we are accustomed to.
We can say just one win away from a playoff team etc. But, fact is it was right there and everyone laid an egg.
I see an improved O-line (can't be worse), better OC (can't be worse) Hopefully an improved Qb
same bad rbs maybe a slight upgrade with knowshon
worse run defense (losing Paul) and our lb suck. Maybe Misi will be better in the middle who knows.
same in the secondary --I pray Taylor, Davis or Aikens can become a player
same below average head coach
same clueless owner
Tougher schedule IMO, Better Jets and Bills teams and slightly down trending Patriots team

The talent on this team outside of the linebackers and offensive line which is a bit unknown should put us much higher than the 31st ranking.
Still there are many facts that definitly concern anyone attempting to rank the Dolphins this year.
1. Philbin lost the last 2 games of last year to underachieving teams.
2. To repeat what everyone knows the offensive line is attempting to be entirely rebuilt in one season which is a nearly impossible task and in the past has cost at least 3 past Dolphin coaches their jobs the same year they tried it. The reports this preseason about the offensive line lack of ability certainly has not instilled any confidence.
3. The changeout of the linebacking corp last year was a bad move, considering we also lost Paul S this year which his presense covered up some of their inability to stop the run last year which was very bad.
4. New coaches at both the offensive line and offensive coaching positions. The new offensive head coach is a rookie at his position which means 2 things, first you really do not know what you are getting with the guy and second there is a 2 part learning curve him learning his job and second the players learning their new job based on his system.
5. Secondary, did we really upgrade the position this year with two new older injury prone players replacing 2 lets say medocre players who could stay on the field for a unit that was ranking top 10 in the NFL last year.
6. Last take into consideration the injury / suspensions this year of veteran players that offered some hope and stability to the teams that needs lots of it in terms of Pouncy, Jordan and Moreno and you certainly left with more question marks than answers with this team.
7. I have to add while we are focued on just the players on this team you have to consider the folks ranking the teams take into consideration the entire organization which means they see a team that struggled mightly to just hire a new GM this year normally a coveted position in the NFL along with a head coach that needs a woman tell him what to say when standing behind a podium during Dolphins public news events.

31st tho?!?!?

WE wont be that bad, probably 7-9 at least.

But that's some tasty clickbait.

it means nothing....the stars will either align or they won't.

Yes Miami had some setbacks.....many teams have or will.

Miami has the potential to go as far as anybody in my opinion.......this is why we play the games!

Starting to think people get off being pessimistic must be like a drug habit they cannot kick.

In other words, you can't argue against any of the points, so you're just going to whine about the fans.

or maybe to him, question marks don't automatically mean a negative outcome

Yeah, a question mark on a team like the Patriots definitely doesn't mean an automatic negative outcome - because there is an established history of success. When you have an established history of failure, you'd be foolish to EXPECT positive outcomes. It's just basic logic.

Yeah, why be optimistic about your favorite team. It's so much more fun to be negative and expect bad things to happen. It's what fans are supposed to do, right? If you're tired of the dolphins and are always negative, maybe it's time to find a new team to root for? If that's not a possibility, it would be nice to not rehash all the "question marks" in every thread, even some of the positive threads. It's very tiresome.

And I'll add, no, this is not a positive thread on the fins, I was just making a statement about the board in general.
