Pouncey has hip surgery out possibly 3 months

I'm curious about how he got hurt. By all reports and such he was absolutely crushing it at OTA's.

Not to sound all conspiracy theory.

But chances are Pouncey knew something was wrong. Toughed it out until his 5th year option was picked up, and then REALLY hurt himself in OTA's/Mini Camp.

People will say if he knew something was 'off' during off season why not just get it fixed up then and be ready for camp?

if a guys running around with a torn hip he shouldn't be able to hide it...pads or no pads

if that were the case, then Miami still would have picked up his 5th year option. so that theory is kind of busted.

3 months puts is at end of August yet I'm hearing PUP for first 6 games. Is there a chance he's ready earlier?

Never mind - apparently I have no idea what month it is!

i'd bet 3 months before he starts doing anything conditioning wise...all rehab and flexibility work before that etc...another month after he's running before he's cleared for contact if he ever is

i'm just not expecting to see him this year...wouldn't surprise me if he's put on long term ir going into coming out of the bye week...

i guess we will see what kind of healer he is...they won't risk reinjury

I think everyone needs to wait and see what the front office/coaching staff does before jumping off a cliff.

We have no idea what kind of surgery Pouncey had. Was it a simple clean up that only required a scope? If so, Brandon Marshall had the same surgery done in mid-June 2009 and he didn't miss a week. Or, was it a torn labrum, similar to what Percy Harvin had last year where Seattle had to put him on the PUP list?

There is so much about this story that we don't know about and yet people are already throwing this season away. People are even saying that this is just a money grab to protect himself for next season. This has no merit considering he played with kidney stones last year and that the contract isn't actually guaranteed for 2015. Just the teams option is and they can release him at any time if they chose.

I prefer to just wait to see what this FO does in the next week. If they sign an older veteran to a one year deal chances are the surgery was more invasive and Pouncey may have to be put on the PUP. Especially if he takes reps as the #1 center immediately at the beginning of training camp. Now if they sign another player to take his spot on the 90 man roster, who isn't a center or guard, it probably was only a simple scope where they feel he will be ready by week 1 or 2 and will let the young guys/backups handle the job during preseason to give them some much needed reps.

I believe though that the injury isn't as bad as some are making it out to be. Here is why. Pounce sat out of the OTA practice before the scrimmage. I am guessing this was to see if he was just sore, to see if his hip felt better with rest, and to see how he felt both during and after the scrimmage after said rest. Pouncey then participated in the scrimmage and more than likely still felt the pain in his hip. This is when the team then gave him an MRI. They then noticed a small tear and probably told Pouncey he can either wait until training camp to try to play through the pain this season, while possibly hurting it worse, and still needing surgery. Or, have the preventative surgery now and make sure the problem is fixed correctly while also preventing further, more invasive surgery in the future. Thus allowing him to only miss a week or two of the season, if any time at all.

Time will only tell. But I'm definitely not ready to throw the towel in on the season or as Pouncey as a player just because a few articles, based solely on opinion, chose to cast the biggest shadow possible on the situation.

From all accounts Pouncey was in phenomenal shape during the OTA's which will definitely help speed up the healing process.

Plus he plays through pain. After going through kidney stones this summer I have no idea how a person would be able to do that while play a game in the NFL. That is some serious pain. My mother in law had them and she told me that passing her kidney stone was worse then giving birth. I have no doubt that if he's given the green light by the medical staff he will play through pain to be on the field.

This doesn't sound so good to me mnphinfan but guess we will wait for more comments..

UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: The procedure is the result of a labrum injury that has been nagging Pouncey for most of the spring, according to Albert Breer of NFL Network.

UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Pouncey suffered a "significant tear" during Dolphins OTAs. Florio added that "three months [for recovery] is the absolute minimum, and it's a very optimistic assessment."

Tend to lean towards what hoops said but am hoping more for short term PUP and hope he can get back into shape and help but not counting on that.

And who would these two have as sources that are intrinsically tied to the Fins medical staff and would have immediate knowledge of the surgery details? No one. They are grasping at straws.

If you believe Florio on anything related to the Fins I have some great ocean front property in my back yard that I'd like to sell you. Hell Florio just posted an article critiquing Philbin has a father/coach because of something his 26 year old son, who is in the military, did. And don't forget that Florio, who ridiculed Ross for asking for public assistance on stadium upgrades, hasn't said one peep on the topic since Ross said he would pay for the upgrades on his own. He just has an axe to grind against the Fins and does so every possible chance he gets.

All I'm saying is lets just wait and see what the Fins do to before forming an opinion instead of basing it on outsiders who are just reporting worst case scenario.

I hear you and I know its Florio -hope you are correct and its just straws, also heard on local radio that word is three months was very, very optimistic. Honestly think it's difficult to get an exact timetable and people are different so we just don't know but sure would feel alot better if we can get some decent play from someone else on the roster and we are not all counting the days down till he can return.

The option guarantees zero money, just insurance.

Losing Pouncey sucks, but that's probably the easiest position to get around when you have to insert a replacement. We need someone who can call out the blocking assignments and play next to 2 first time starters - thats going to be the hardest thing to replace.

I thought he had gallstones? Or Gall Bladder problems not kidney issues?
