practice tweets day 10

unless misi is a beast mike backer the run d will be leaky...hell its already giving up more yardage to the 2's in the run game even than it should...maybe some of thats scheme driven...but our dline physically dominates our oline pretty much in one on ones especially the 2's...i think we will have issues with downhill power run games who work off pa and teams that get us in the nickle and run out of it...

i'd plan for the pass rush to be the meal ticket on d...dion jordan is the potential true difference maker in that regard...

not to mention did you guys see the way the officials are calling even the softest contact now on the d in the hof game...yeesh...they call it that tight games are gonna be a flag fest...let them play a little dammit

Well also throw in that Chris Snee unexpectedly retired, and Dave Diehl is gone as well so they have more holes on the OL than they thought.

Oh and reportedly, the only OL position really up for now is RG, but it's more Dallas Thomas vs Billy Turner. Shelley Smith is supposedly already relegated to 2nd team.

He's been running with the 1st team at LG. From the reports he's been opening some huge holes for the running game on the left side.

The offense and specifically Tannehill doing damn good in the scrimmage is more important then how they perform in practice.

Especially when Wallace and Hartline and also Clay aren't even there.

I don't know how the scrimmage was any different, really. But again, it's that third preseason game that interests me. As the great Denny Green informed us, nobody takes the third game of the preseason like it's bull****.

If you read camp reports from other teams, you will hear that other QBs -- good QBs -- have had awful days. It's one of these weird situations where the 24 hour news cycle really is resulting in warped perspectives on stuff, IMO.

this defense would be fierce if we could be one of those teams that gets to play with the lead a lot and in effect mean the run game is a non issue and we can tee off with the pass rush...then we'd be filthy

but that requires the o taking a serious leap...

They have to do it. The Seahawks came right out and admitted in interviews that they hold because they know it won't be called every play. This is the NFL calling that bluff. So you can thank the "Legion of Boom" or whatever dumb name they came up with for themselves.

When your gameplan is defensive holding and you brag about it, and then win the Super Bowl, the NFL officiating braintrust takes notice.

The one obvious difference to me at least. Is in practice you are overly predictable you run the same plays until you get it right but the defense knows the exact play. Scrimmage is a little more game day like you never run the same play twice in a row. Practice is also situational. You have red zone days. Deep pass days. Whatever else. Scrimmage is much more telling

true but there's a difference between holding and riding a guy down the field etc...that said it could help us cause the pats are gonna play one physical game on the outside especially when browner gets back...of course the officials will probably eat the whistle for them

b/t i'm hearing that revis is basically shutting down anyone who comes near him all camp and that they plan to send the lbs a ton on blitz this year...watch out for jamie collins...that kids a freak athlete and will be murder on the blitz

basically i'm hearing the patriots d looks flat filthy right now and the offense is humming right along like usual...quite the freaking task week 1...better show them something they haven't seen...word is best pats d in a decade

I read that Brady had some really dreadful practice days. So yeah, that defense is gonna be nasty. They should be the favorites to win the AFC, I think.

Ed Werder was on ESPN Radio talking about the new PI calls. Basically the owner, GMs, and Coaches meetings had every other team complaining that the league didn't call crap. Then they pulled up video from the Superbowl and showed 9 cases where it was blatant and not called. Head of Officiating basically had to swallow his hat and changed the way its going to be called.

They didn't hire Jay Gruden for defense lol. Why else would they have kept Jim Haslett.

yeah they hired gruden to make rg3 a pocket qb...or at least that's what has been said...i will believe it when i see it...especially the part about it working...they may try it but i dont see it working...hard to teach an old dog new tricks

That is the vision. Our pass defense was already third or fourth in the league at opposing team passer rating last season and it should be even better this season. All of our resources on D are being put into frustrating opposing QBs, they were already good in that regard and we've continued to invest in that area and they could be absolutely dominating if some of the youngsters step up and our own offense can force them to abandon the running game, like you say.

The bad news is it might make Tannehill look bad in training camp. The good news is going up against an elite pass defending defense in practice should help him against average NFL defenses that focus more on being balanced. And an elite defense should help him win games too, so there's that.
