Restructured Contracts and Cuts?

While that's basically true... the NFL is a completely different system than any other business. The players get a set % of all revenue, and this set amount must be paid out to the players as a whole. It's a zero-sum game and every single dollar that a player receives is a dollar that one of his teammates doesn't.

Your job is not like this.

No one's job is like this.

In THIS system, to be overpaid is to be taking dollars directly away from your teammates.

It is NOTHING like any other system... anywhere.

There is no substance to your argument. By this logic, you believe socialism is the way of the Gods.

With free agency rapidly approaching I would like to see the following players put the team first and restructure there contacts and take pay cuts. Byron Jones, Shaq Lawson, Eric Flowers. As for players cut obviously KVN is out and following him I would say is Jakeem Grant, Albert Wilson, and Allen Hurns. Thoughts on anyone else? I have a feeling we are trying to free up money to be aggressive in free agency. Fins up.
I think you are confusing restructure with paycut.

In any case, there is no incentive for Flowers or Lawson to agree to that, and really no incentive for the Dolphins either. It just adds more dead money down the road, should we want to move on.

I could see a Jones restructure making more sense, but even there, if he underperformes again, do you really want to throw good $ after bad?

None of the others are making enough to make a real difference.

I flat out cut Hurns and Grant.

I bring Wilson into camp, and see what our reciever corps looks like before I do anything.

Restructure Jones. He might not have had a great season but I think he can be a good player for 3 to 4 yrs. There are going to be so many bargains because of the salary cap situation, you want as much flexibility as possible. We really do not have any bad contracts going forward that we can not get out of.

Sports in general. I laugh when people use the “I can’t go to my boss and demand more money or take the year off bc of COVID” argument as if their job is anywhere similar to a pro athlete’s gig.

Maybe they want to go big in free agency because they're gonna be a lot of big names cut.

Maybe they wanna fix the offense through free agency and go heavy on defense in the draft. Lord knows all the defensive prospects keep slipping in the draft. Micah Parsons, Rousseau, Surtain, etc...

Ok, maybe one offensive weapon in the draft (I spoil you).

Stay well away from restructures, it's what got us into mess before and a legacy left by Mike T.

The three wideouts you listed I would cut too but from a performance perspective not to save money.
Why do you say 'performance perspective' on Wilson & Hurns? What do you know that we dont?
Both looked Damn Good late in 2019.

McCain +5.6M
Albert +2.8M
Grant +2.8M
Rowe +5M
These aren’t bad figures at all. I keep Rowe, McCain and Grant (for ST). Not sure what Wilson is going to look like when he comes back. I could see all 4 of these guys on the roster this season. I would cut Hurns as he’s nothing more than average.

I don’t recall Hurns ever doing much. Wilson looked better as the season went on as he seemed to be getting healthier after the injury. I’m very curious to see what he looks like when camp starts.

I'd restructure Jones...5 million
I'd cut Fejedelem, Smythe, Grant, and Davis...10 million
Either Rowe or McCain...either one saves 5 mil

So there is plenty of cap space, if needed. Load the money to hit next year's cap. Spend wisely, and you aren't in cap hell.

Grant is still a weapon on ST and one of the best at his position. Don’t see him cut. Hurns and Wilson are gone after last years fiasco. Could see us cutting our punter who I’ve never been a fan of, or at least picking up a FA for comp. Will will be active and upgrading in FA

I would rather see them cut Hurns than cut Bowden. While Bowden should only be a 5th or 6th WR at this stage of his career, he seemed to improve as the season went along and he got more chances to play. He is still learning to play WR in the NFL and he is a much cheaper option than Hurns.

As far as the other players you listed, hopefully they can draft or sign free agents who can come in and perform better than those players. Grant is certainly not worth the money he is scheduled to be paid next season.
100%. I fully expect us to hang on to Bowden. He had a crazy start to his rookie year with the trade and all that but he still showed some flashes and like you said, he is still learning the position. He's a nice swiss army knife option for our offense and he does a solid job at picking up yards after the catch.
