Should have thought of that.I watched the first 2 on youtube (you can search "josh rosen every snap" and find a few preseason games, the game v Bears and Seahawks) and then i watched the rest of NFL game pass and skipped through anytime they were on D.

I disagree.
But I also think OTA, minicamp, training camp, the preseason games, practicing and scrimmaging with another NFL team (can't remember who) should be plenty of the prep you feel he so desperately needs.
I don't think you want Rosen to succeed. No, based on that their coaching staff was a bust. If this coaching staff doesn't put Rosen on the field opening day then Miami might be in the same boat as Cleveland was with their coaching staff. Rosen needs to be evaluated on as many snaps as possible right from the get go. Rosen already had a full season to get his feet wet last season. It's time to find out if he sinks or swims. Miami needs to find out about him by the end of the season so they can evaluate him against next year's qb class.
The only people who say that Rosen is a one-season try out are some fans and some talking heads in the media. Rosen gets backup money from us. He may live out his contract with us either as starter or backup.I don't see this as much of a competition.
You don't trade for a guy with a one-window to see if you have to draft his replacement next April by watching him take second-team reps during the week and holding a clipboard during the games.
If Rosen's healthy and not starting, then he's never starting.
If he isn't ready, you can't force him out there. Thanks but... I don't like it when someone attempts to "put words in my mouth" and in no way did I say
or imply "desperately" -- I just don't believe EVERY young QB that comes into the NFL is a ready made
"finished product."
And personally -- I do NOT see Rosen as a polished, finished product. Add to that he's taking on
(supposedly) the most demanding O in the league for a QB and WHY FORCE IT!
Yea. I get it. He isn't technically a "rookie" but he sure isn't a PROVEN VET.
But let me say this -- if ???? the staff believes Rosen is 100% ready for live bullets and he's EARNED
the starting role -- well -- roll the dice. BUT if he flops and clearly isn't ready
I'll immediately lose 50% of my respect for this new staff.
In this case -- MY OPINION -- it's better to be conservative.

Most QBs are not. Even our great Marino started as a backup. QBs who come out of college and start right away are put in out of necessity because the team has no other option. It is very rare, extremely rare, that a rookie QB is ready from day 1. It is well known that rookie QBs benefit from the sideline view behind a veteran QB. This constant "oh he has to start from game 1 otherwise he is a bust" is BS. It comes from the same people who scream "he is a bust" if the QB starts in game 1 and looks bad. Thanks but... Lol. He is from here on out known as cake man"competition" is good coach speak. Miami spent draft capital.
Rosen is the starter.
Cake Man is running out his career clock.
Say whatever the hell you want to the public.
You give this kid the majority of the starting reps and you give him sixteen games. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a career journeyman who is in his twilight as a pro football player. There is absolutely no ****ing point to starting him whatsoever, unless you think Rosen is going to be so bad that the team will go 0-16 and you want to avoid that stigma. And I don't think they think he's that bad based on the fact that they traded a second round pick for him.
If you don't start Josh Rosen for 16 games (assuming healthy), then this coaching staff ought to be pilloried.
Who in the world ever opined that every young QB that comes into the NFL was a finished product? Most QBs are not. Even our great Marino started as a backup. I always maintained that if Ryan would have sat on the bench for a few games he might have benefited from that early on.
Those are all fair points. I mostly agree with all this. My main gripe here is they all benifit the 2019 Dolphins, which are essentially a 16 game pre season for 2020, where the window starts. This is how they positionned themselves. They once again have picks and money, but it doesnt mean **** if they cant say for sure if Rosen has potential to be an elite/franchise QB.Of Course there are possible benefits. Ideally, the best situation(in my opinion) is for Rosen to beat out Fitz.
Benefits of Fitz starting(assuming a fair competition) is that Rosen isn't ready to start and he gets a chance to ease into the eventual starting role. That's a benefit!
Fitz as a veteran maybe able to get the team more primed and ready to go much sooner than Rosen. That's a benefit!
Fitz cuts down on the mental errors and provide the coaches with more game tape to fine tune the play calling and roster..That's a benefit!
Now you may not think those are important or even benefits. But i think those things can help to create better play all around, better culture all around and hopefully team success all around.
Who in the world ever opined that every young QB that comes into the NFL was a finished product?
I didn't see that anywhere.
It's really quite the opposite.
Furthermore, if you wait for a QB prospect to become a finished product before you play him, that prospect will never play or become a finished product.
