Tannehill's expectations for 2014

I would like to see 7.4 yards per attempt.

I'll take my chances in the victory column and everywhere else if Tannehill reaches that level.

This is a good read on the matter, describing how interceptions can be overrated. Exactly. And that means less weight toward passer rating for predictive purposes. I'm not giving away my betting related formulas but yards per attempt with some adjustments is best, as this article describes:

Out of all of the stat websites you have linked, this guy is the only one who built a sound statistical model. He even tests the significance of the independent variables in his models (p-values) which many fail to do, and he tested them at several different confidence intervals (up to 90%). Very nice.

Playoffs or bust... no excuses anymore. 3rd year in a row no more excuses if he can't get us there on his own its time to start looking for someone else.

All he needs to do is connect on some of those deep misses and we win a few more games than we did.

Having said that, we cant expect all of the other variables to stay the same. There is no guarantee that the defense is 8th in ppg allowed again this year. Then again, they could be better. I also dont see how the OL isnt vastly improved. This shouldnt be an issue. Unless the defense becomes horrible this year, its all on Tannehill as to how far this team goes and whether or not we make the playoffs. The talent is on the roster. This team is good enough to win 9 or 10 if we just get competent QB play on a fairly consistent basis.

I dont think Tannehill has to have "big" numbers to get us there. Hell, he couldve gotten us there last year with marginal stats had he just hit a couple of those deep throws he missed, taken a few less sacks, or turned it over a couple of less times. If he can do all 3 of those things this season, this team is legit. But, honestly I would just be happy if he turned it over a little less and managed the game a little better. Because if he does that, we are going to the playoffs.

Those of you throwing out MVP numbers and saying if he does that and we dont make the playoffs would you still get rid of him?................ Ive got news for you...... If Tannehill puts up those pipe dream type of numbers we arent missing the playoffs unless our defense all of the sudden starts averaging 28 ppg allowed.

Improve his deep-ball accuracy, start throwing receivers open, show better awareness. The O-Line should be better so the running game should alleviate some of the workload, although it seems like they are set on making this a passing team. If so:

4,100 yards 27 TD's 13 INT's

now he has a pair of decent tackles and a proper rb..... 35 tds and 13 ints.

It will be 30 minimum, even if he doesnt get any better. He got 24 with franchise record sacks and the worst running game I have ever seen

I have a feeling this will be a year where the O finally gets it together but the bottom falls out of the D. It would be very Dolphin like to go through a season with half a team.

I could see every game being a shoot out with our O weapons and questionable linebackers and secondary. If anything happens to Grimes the secondary will be toast.

Only 5 QB's annually have thrown 30+ TD's for the past 4 years and they mostly have been top 5 QB themselves. Tannehill will have to make a huge jump for that to happen.

Seems like something that would happen. I'll stay optimistic and hope Jordan and Taylor improve.

6 tds is hardly a big jump, especially considering the issues with our offence, from the line, to the running game to apparently having the worst oc in the nfl *shrug*

When he breaks 30 I have no doubt his critics will find a new angle to attack him on though

Expectations should be high. My expectations are finheaven not blaming the coordinator, Oline or weapons if things don't work out. I don't think expectations can get higher than that.

I expect things will work out though.

Yeah you're right, Andy Dalton is clearly light years better than what Tannehill is capable of....

I don't see how the line, rb and weapons are held up as a false excuse and I dislike that argument because frankly its a fact they were bad. We fired the o.c., replaced the rb and have 4 out of 5 new linemen

I don't feel any need to make excuses for Tannehill last year, bar maybe 1 or 2 games I thought he was really good and ended the season significantly better than he ended season1.

Dude. I am not a total Tannehill homer like you. If he would have gotten the job done, and put up more then 7 points the last 2 games, and the Dolphins would have gone to the Playoffs, no argument from me man. Your argument is weak because the difference between all those Quarterbacks (Flacco, Foles, Brady, Romo, Ryan) they all have accomplished things, Super Bowls, Playoffs, Foles had a absolute monster break out year. What has Tannehill done?

Angry Deniers. A bunch of agenda-driven whiny clowns whose sole mission is to deny anything good that Tannehill has done and deny anything bad that the "gods of quarterbacks" have done.

What has he done? 2 mediocre years. Better question? If Tannehill does not have a successful 2014 campaign what is your opinion? 3 years no playoffs or improvement? He will be no different then Chad Henne. I want to win man. Dolphins!! The Goal is to get to the playoffs. He was outplayed by Geno Smith last game of the season. Through 2 interceptions, could not run for a first down. That's the facts Jack.

Romo lol he hasn't done anything

Matt Ryan has ONE playoff victory in 6 years on a team that has been STACKED offensively. Romo? ONE playoff victory on a stacked team on offense and defense. Newton was worse than Tannehill his first two seasons. Nobody was talking about 2013 being make or break for Newton.

He improved from year 1 to year 2. He will improve again this season. Your comparison to Henne is stupid because Henne DID NOT improve from year to year. That was to whole problem. He is still the same QB that he was in his second year. Henne has played nearly 4 full seasons (out of six years in the NFL) as a pro and his passer rating has only varied by 4 points in those 4 seasons. He has had more INTs than TDs every year except one where he had 11 of each. Tannehill has shown more improvement in one season than Henne has in six. Equating Tannehill to Henne is showing your ignorance.

Face it, many Dolphin's fans are whiny clowns.

Tannehill was the ONLY decent player on offense for many of the games last season. If the play last season of Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco didn't drive home the FACT that football is a team game, then some clowns on this site just can't be taught. "Hard core untrainable" is the term I use.
