The Official MLB Trade Deadline RUMOR thread

any chance the angels are interested in dye. A deal for dye would make plenty of sense for them because they need someone to protect vlad.

Mets heavily pursuing chad cordero for Humber according to si's jon heyman

If the Mets don't come away with Gagne, the only remaining bullpen choice on their menu is now Cordero. Teams that have spoken with the Mets say they no longer have interest in Devil Rays closer Al Reyes, and they've gotten nowhere in their talks with the White Sox about Jon Garland. So they've narrowed their focus just to Gagne and Cordero, and weren't optimistic about coming away with Gagne. But Cordero hasn't appeared a whole lot easier to deal for, either. The Nationals have been pushing for Lastings Milledge, and the Mets are now telling clubs Milledge is on a list of six young players they won't change under any circumstances. The others: outfielders Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez, and pitchers Mike Pelfrey, Kevin Mulvey (currently in Double-A) and Deolis Guerra (currently in Class A). So can these two teams structure a deal around a prospect like highly regarded former No. 1 pick Philip Humber? We'll see. With the clock ticking toward the deadline, they were still talking.

Wow if true you have to give Theo and the FO credit for getting 2 impact guys for next to nothing (in terms of prospects) assuming the guys dealt are only Wily Mo, Hansen, Gabbard and Murphy

did gagne give up his no trade clause or did the deal with boston fall through?

lastest report from MLB.com

Eric Gagne, RP TEX
News: Eric Gagne has reportedly agreed to be traded to the Red Sox for a package of SP Kason Gabbard, OF David Murphy and teenaged prospect OF Engel Beltre. Jon Papelbon figures to remain the Red Sox closer, while Hideki Okajima becomes a seventh-inning/lefty reliever.

Analysis: Gagne will lose his status as a closer, but he could still get save chances on the days Jon Papelbon is unavailable. The Red Sox have been reluctant to use Papelbon in all save opportunities as they try to save his shoulder. Gabbard will likely start for the Rangers, but he loses his contender with a great offense. Murphy is a candidate to help the Rangers in the second half, while Beltre is at least four or five years away.

So any idea what the ChiSox wanted for Dye or what the Reds wanted for Dunn? Seems odd that there was a build up to the Sox unloading and they didnt do anything. Were they asking for the moon or did they back off the plan to blow up the team?

LOL Pointless move of the day: Matt Morris to Pitt

I guess Pitt is going all out to finish 5th? Only logic there is that Morris can probably get through waivers and maybe get them a half useful prospect?

Well that's what I heard at around 3:00 today(i think thats what i heard ;) ). That the deal to BOS fell through and that CHI was in the process of re-signing Dye.

The deal apparently fell through because the ChiSox wanted Wily Mo and two out of Manny Delcarmen, Craig Hansen and Justin Masterson. The Sox balked at giving up 2 of those guys.

Word is now the ChiSox will try to resign him.
