Tua Tagovailoa has given Dolphins answers they needed and earned new contract

I would say only the Chargers have so far because both the Eagles and Bengals made it to a Super Bowl and the Bills should have that one year before choking at the end of the Chiefs game in the AFC Championship Game. We will see if a coaching change helps the Chargers.
Thank you for proving my point again. Blame everything on Tua. You haven't liked him from the beginning and you don't understand football enough to know it's a team sport. For you even if it's not his fault, it's his fault. What an ignorant approach to football. You've shown your opinion on the matter is as irrelevant as Largo's.

They said the topic of Tua was divisive on the national level.

They should visit Finheaven.

We are playoff bound. Guaranteed. And yet Latrine flies keep buzzing their hateful shet in this forum.
If it was divisive on a national level, he wouldn't be the starting Pro bowl QB for the AFC. Some idiotic phin fans are just too jaded to realize what we've got.

Last time I checked he is signed through 2024 and is scheduled to make around $23 million next season. Everybody seems to be in a big rush to sign to a huge contract extension this upcoming offseason. I would let him play out his current contract and then decide what to do based on how he performs the rest of this season and next season. If worst comes to worst they can always use the franchise tag on him in 2025.

Let him play out his contract? Tua is not playing week 1 in 2024 on his 5th rookie option without a new $250+M contract.

The Dolphins have zero leverage.

Don't care. I would not have extended Marino after he failed on second contract. Gotta perform, get to SB or close to it on rookie contract.

No can do. They will need that $23M number down for next season if they want to keep Wilkins, Hunt, Williams and AVG and also to stop Tua possibly holding out.

Using the franchise tag in 2025 is definitely a no go as there is no way they can have a $50M hit in that year.

You give him the extension, you use void years to kick the big hit further down the road just like the Eagles have done with Hurts. Miami has barely made use of void years. This means that he won’t be counting as a 45-50M cap hit until 2027 or even 2028 when the cap will likely be way over 300M by then. Not extending him after this season leads to the team having zero leverage in 2025 when trying to get a deal done. Also if he’s top 5 again in all metrics then the price goes up even higher.
There's no sense explaining to these guys how the market works, because they're either unable to understand or refuse to believe it.

I think Tua will accept a relatively team friendly deal @$45m. He has proven himself in many ways BUT also has a few areas he needs to improve. If I am Grier, I also look at QBs in late rounds every year (especially strong armed ones) to develop as insurance, back ups or even trade value in the future.

Oh really? And what leverage does Tua have? He can sit out and not get his $23 million next season? Ya good one! He ain’t doing that! Lol

I just hope the cap increases enough to give us some breathing room. Tough decisions looming on a lot of guys...Tua is just 1 of many with the business side calling ...things may look a lot different real soon around TC time...i keep saying it but come on Grier man I hope you planned for this!!!

Of course he will. What are the Dolphins going to do, play Mike White?

I’ll be amazed if he plays next season without a new deal.

You never saw a playoff appearance with Tannehill yet he got a contract! Such a weird fan base!
It’s not weird if you put yourself in their shoes. They don’t like Tua, they don’t want Tua, so they constantly move the goalposts on what he needs to do to earn a new contract in their mind. He’s met every make believe goal so far so now the new one is win a big game (big game is whatever game they decide).

Next is win a playoff game, after that it will be get the Dolphins to the Super Bowl and finally it will be win the Super Bowl. I’m sure even if he does that some will still not want him.

They want a QB that they see on Sports Center running around in the backfield and slinging a 60 yard bomb to a receiver. They never see the other 5 passes he missed to wide open guys because he’s not that accurate from the pocket. They don’t really watch any other NFL games, just highlights.

Given all we have had to put up with since selecting Tua (Herbert love, Watson distraction, inability to get along w/ the previous coaching staff, concussions and general fragility) I think we deserve a bit of a discount to secure his noodle-arm, no playoff-game winning, non-mobile abilities for another 4 years. I'd offer $37.5MM plus incentives for games played and games won against winning teams. Max with incentives of $39.5MM as he should slot in below the names above.

Even with a discount though that's way more than we are paying now, if we can't win the division or a playoff game with a loaded roster how exactly are we ever going to get better with the same QB and less to spend on the roster? Tricky business. Need to start drafting a QB late every year and look for the Brady/Purdy's of the world and get back to a rookie QB contract as soon as possible.

Looking at our roster, i think its overblown calling it a "loaded roster". Other than Hill and Ramsey being game changers, i would consider us having a good roster.

Top it off with all the injuries, Tua has been playing pretty well through it all. And maybe this offseason, the team should be getting more loaded at the OLine position.
