Allen '21 23.5% of cap (182)
Watson '22 26% of cap (208)
Jackson '23 23% of cap (225)
Lawrence '24 21.5% of cap (255)

Still a bit off from record setting here as far as percentages go. People need to stop looking at the per year number in a bubble and understand it's a percentage value for a team. Rising tide.

That same Allen contract that was banana sandwich crazy years ago is now pennies, well would be if the Bills weren't such idiots.

Also notice, none of those players listed have won a SB? 🤔
Plus, the cap is likely to rise to over $300m by 2026, which brings a $55m py number back down to 18%. NFL teams have economists looking at this stuff.

For reference, Matt Ryan’s contract in 2018 was 17% of the cap. I would imagine since then teams have moved salary % out of positions like RB, Safety and off ball LB and into the QB position. QBs are taking RBs money.

$55m is a big number but on % terms it’s really not wildly more than what QBs were earning 6/8 years ago. Even Tannehill earned nearly 15% of the cap here.

Exactly. While I have moved more to following cap numbers and contracts, I am a little hesitant past next year's increases. I foresee an overall economic downturn, much less revenue for the NFL and a stabilizing of the cap around 300 or just sub for a year or two. Teams that plan on a forever money printer on their contracts moving forward will be blasted out of the water. Cough cough Philly.

Tua’s contract will be at least $55 mil per year. $200 mil guaranteed. That’s the number I sense Tua and his agent are pushing for.

The market being what it is and Tua being who he is, as compared to the others who recently signed, would be the argument from Tua’s agent.

Griers argument.

See Chris “I can’t call NFl Plays” Simms argument, where he lists Tua at number 18 QB, heading into the 2024 season.

The Grier argument is a cut and paste argument from Chris Simms argument.

Just get it done and let’s cheer for the 🐬. Let’s effing go Grier! Get this shet done!

I don't think it is as big as it looks

Sure he gets 55 mill per with 200 mill guaranteed

But he still has the 4th and 5th year from his rookie deal

You have to factor in the 4th and 5th year salary to this deal.

Here's the thing most people are failing to see: If the plan is to franchise Tua next season, the cost for applying the tag is now over $50 million. If the plan is to let him walk, it has to be done immediately following the season because Tua can refuse to sign the tag until Summer and that money can't be used to grab other players. It'll throw our entire offseason off-kilter.

And if Tua's value to another team is less than $50+ million, his value to Miami is more because they constructed the roster around him. We're all entitled to our opinions, but this is going to need to be resolved soon or we're looking at a helluva reset ne

Don`t think that`s how it works . Pretty sure they can tag him twice after contract is up . The problem with that is you got a player playing for you that`s not happy .
2025 he is UFA as per spotrac. hes playing on the club 5th year option for 23 mil this season

LOL, some of y'all in this thread are just killing me. Your heads are going to explode when Tua signs for something in the $55 mil/year range

The Dolphins need to sign Tua ASAP. Because if a very average QB like Lawrence is getting $55 million a year, the Dolphins will have to sign Tua for $60 million a year if they continue to wait on signing him.

This team has jerked that kid around since he was signed.

Wouldnt blame him one bit if he demands a trade.
you think that’s it?

Tua is holding us responsible for Flores and Ross interference?

I thought it could be a fat as **** clause :)
