Nah, I think much like the G and DT positions, Grier misplayed and misread the market.

I don't think Grier thought Tua would reasonably be able to expect 55+. However, with these recent signings, if Tua accepts anything less then 55, it would be a team friendly deal.

If anyone thought Fabio would sign for 55 per year, please show me the post.

Again, this is why you don't wait when you have an MVP caliber QB, who for 2 seasons in a row has led or been top 5 in almost every QB metric, who's team has made the playoffs 2 years in a row.

You just don't wait to see
But thats my point. Grier doesnt think of Tua as you do.

You're not taking getting literally dunked on very well, are you?

So to recap:

Winner of who's better between Tua and Lawrence - waddlewaddle

Winner of whether the word literally should have been used or not - trucanes

One is an opinion, the other is a fact.

I'm happy being on the side of facts. Being happy you "won" an opinion is cute, though.

Speaking of kids tables... my guess is you're typing all of this from a crack-fueled laptop in a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.

What's the discussion?

You are stating how Grier feels when you have no ****ing clue.
Actions always speak louder than words. Grier is not some guy that fell off of a turnip truck. He may now have to over pay. Curious to see if he does.

How do you determine if he overpaid?

Right. I agree. It should be. But if Im Grier, I honestly dont think I'd do it. Its a major commitment that will either make or break the franchise for the forseeable future. Do you gamble on Tua and hope and pray you roll a 7? I think the odds are just as good that you get snake eyes.
Tua`s the best shot they got at a Superbowl run in the for seeable future , Ross want`s a Superbowl doesn`t he . Get it done , the sooner the better for the whole team

Prove it!

Not with opinion based on speculation.

Prove that Grier doesn't think as highly of Tua. Show me an actual evidence that proves, beyond speculation or interpretation, that Grier doesn't think highly of Tua.

Based on actions, I would agree. But I don't actually know.

We very well may be starting Mike White week 5 with our current O line.

Please don't with the Injuries either. You know darn well the diferrence as you are one of the smarter posters here.

Please don't equate banking on 3 starting O linemen who get injured every year, 2 for significant time with- injuries happen everywhere.
I’m just playing devil’s advocate here Gryph. OL injury history is certainly a problem but wouldn’t QB be as well? When I say everywhere it’s just because we were decimated in the secondary 2 years ago together with OL, lost Ramsey for half a season before playing a down last year, lost our edge rushers last year together with top LB and safety, running backs in and out of the lineup, star WR’s gimpy down the stretch. It’s football so you just never know. With Tua, if we roll out the brinks truck and he gets injured next year similar to every year but last, how does everyone pounding for the bag now feel then?

It’s the offseason and not much to go on about at this point so really just razzing some folks in good natured fun on the Tua contract subject bit IMO there is a ton of gray area and reasons we don’t just roll out the next highest contact. I still want Tua signed long term but still hope somewhat team friendly and am sure Grier is pushing for just that. Naive maybe but negotiations on dollars/years of this magnitude aren’t easy and we have to use what leverage we have for the club’s long term interest.

All we can go by is actions. If He was in love with Tua why wouldnt he have gotten a deal done before the other QBs? He knows the market. He knew if the other deals got done, Tua had to be paid at least at that level. Why would he let the market run away from him? Answer: He didnt want to make the committment. Now its decision time for him. The proverbial crap or get off the pot. If I was Grier at this point, I would have nothing to lose by letting Tua play out his current contract.
