Thanks for enlightening us here. I could have been more specific and I did think to add, 150 guaranteed but still was uncertain on what I'd prefer with that number. So yes more research to do for specifics. As you've stated it's truly the only amount that matters... Oo yes and I should have prefaced that I'm just generalizing and not looking to argue or mentally maturbate with anyone over specific numbers.

All I intended to convey was that I don't see him worth the "50m" a year deal as the other top several qbs contracts have been written. I see him more along the lines of Kirk Cousins and honestly I would have preferred to have him for a couple years as a stop gap. I suggested the same for Mayfield before he went to Tampa. Having said that, Tua could be in the range with Cousins and Mayfield and that feels more resonant to me. I wouldn't have him in the conversation with some of these other top qbs. Not yet at least.

Gratitude for all the insight from the folks here like yourself that are breaking down the contracts in depth, because it truly is fascinating and will be explored when Tua's contract is completed and surfaces.

Ahh yes and I do love to see us cultivate tolerance for the varying opinions on where we all value Tua.
So, bottom line is you don't think Tua is a franchise QB, and do not want to pay him as such.

Fair enough.

I have a follow up question, as I often see others of the same opinion.

If that's what you truly believe, and that's fine, I understand the position, but then why would you want to give him a contract at all?

Been a dolphin fan since 1970. Been a Tua fan since he was drafted.

You figure it out.

If you were a Dolphin fan you would care more about the team than a viable QB breaking the bank. It is that simple.

Exactly that's why we drafted a 6'7" tackle this year to make up for Tua's height. No more passing to the sidelines. You should be an offensive coordinator.
In case you haven't noticed, Tua doesn't roll out and throw. He's under the center reading the defense pre-snap and then getting rid of the ball as quickly as possible to gaps in the defense.

All I'll say is don't be surprised when the pass blocking rates are bad again. It's not important in this style of offense.

Brewer is pretty terrible in pass blocking. PFF graded Brewer 26th in pass protection. I think they got Brewer because he's short and it allows Tua to see the field better, and he's great in run blocking.

Pass blocking doesn't matter much in this offense because the ball gets out fast. If it did, you wouldn't get Brewer. This isn't a see the field and throw to a guy. You need the offensive line to hold up in that type of offense. That's not the offensive system the Dolphins have built.

Again pff takes into accounts sacks, hurries, pressures into their grades which will alter his grade. Tenn had a rookie that loved to hold and extend plays and Tannehill who also loved to hold and take awful sacks. I think his grade will end up being high 60’s low 70’s for pass blocking in Miami under pff and this scheme. Just wasn’t a scheme fit in Tenn. he’ll be fine in Miami.

Pressures and hurries should count. Sacks are charged when it is his clear blown block or missed assignment that led to the quarterback being sacked. So again, this makes sense. It's not as if pass block win rate doesn't also have it's flaws

().

He's the smallest center in the league. He'll be better but overall he's going to struggle in pass blocking. You need to get him moving, which is why he's good at run blocking.

I think this is a great point. You either believe he’s the guy or he’s not. If he is, pay him fair market value, if he’s not, don’t waste any more time and move on.

I’m very confident Tua is the Dolphins’ franchise QB, pay him and let’s F’ing go!!!

At Alabama, everybody ate with Tua at QB.

Same with Miami.

Not sure if this is true. Ask Waddle. He played with Tua at Alabama and now at Miami.

Tua at QB allows everyone to eat.

Jalen Hurts. Not so much.

The others, not so much.

That 6'7" tackle will be an issue when he tries to hit Achan off to the left or right near the line.

Guess we better tell opponents not to play tallish DLine/Edge while we are at it.

You may not like Grier, but he's not stupid. He knew what other QBs were in line for contracts. If he was sold on Tua why would he wait and watch the market move up? Unless he thinks he's going to get Tua on a sweetheart deal?!
Grier's approach has led to many contracts that would be considered team-friendly, both for young rising stars and seasoned veterans. I am not inclined to think the team has been lackadaisical or unreasonable in the process of trying to resign Tua. They have kind of earned the benefit of the doubt IMO. Sometimes this stuff just takes time and much of the hand wringing is mere speculation.

Can't ruin the entire line. Most of the passing is in the middle of the field. It'll help he can see better.
