I think our achilles heal may be stopping the run and may ultimately cost us any real shot at being dominant but, I see a team that is going to play hard and strong and who just might catch a few teams thinking this is the same old Dolphins. Combine that with the talent that is here and you're right, there is a good possibility that 9 or 10 wins may be well within reach.
If the players fully buy into it I see a division win. Really! No sh*t!
With the signing of Keith Traylor we have all the healthy parts to run a 34 FULL TIME! I'm not saying we will do it because I don't think we will. We will have some good balance on defense. I still remember people laughing at the thought of Willie Mcginest playing the linebacker position. He wasn't a "tweener". He was a DE. We've got all the parts to simply dominate on defense. Jason Taylor is the type of talent that is more than a pass rush specialist. He has had heaps of praise on his run support. It takes a special individual to do both. The thing about Dwight Freeney is that he moves so FAST that he cannot change direction as Taylor has done. Taylor has used quickness in change of direction throughout his career. That is what it takes to play the outside in the 34. HE CAN DO IT!
At the OLB I see three options - Seau, Taylor, or Crowder
On the inside- Thomas, Spragan, Moore, or Pope
The key is that the DE's (Carter, Holliday, or Bowens, or even Zgonina) have to know their role in the defense. They are the sacrificial lambs.
For the first time in a long time we have options for defense. Chester doesn't even have to tow the load. Chester and Traylor could alternate at the NT.
Matchups are key in this league. We have the option of running so many different players on the field that the offensive coordinator will not know what he is facing. I like it.
People forget this is largely the same defense that won 10 games WITHOUT Ricky Williams and a running game.
Take away the desertion of Williams. Take away the season ending injury to David Boston. Take away the indecisiveness at the QB position (I don't think Saban will make that mistake). Take away the Hurricane before the last preseason game. Take away the Hurricane prior to the opener. Take away the monsoon during the third game. Take away the injuries to both starting DT's. Take away the injury to the kicker. Take away the firing of the sorriest leader this organization has ever seen.
What would you have had left? Nine to ten wins.
Now add a Quarterback with a live arm, Ronnie Brown, Nick Saban, a real offensive coordinator, and one of the best offensive line coaches in the league.
I see at least ten wins. No homerism about it.
