Watch Rodgers play, he's worth #2

I hope we don't continue talking about this for the next ten years on how we passed on 1 of the greats... I'm glad I don't get paid to make these decisions.

Wow, this is a little prophetic! It's like you had ESPN or something. I would trade Ronnie Brown ten times for one Aaron Rogers and to think, we could have easily moved back up from the top of the second round and still taken Rogers. Great idea there Nick, you a$$hole!

The problem was that Saban had too big an ego to take Rodgers, a Pac-10 guy, not an SEC Elite.

I also think that Saban was too egocentric to trust his scouts and would only really draft players that he coached or coached against. The Fins were pulling from a very shallow talent pool under Saban and it really hurt the team.

Rodgers never would have become the player that he has if we would have drafted him bc we havent had a stable offensive staff in forever.

"Never" is a long time. Remember that in 05, Scott Linehan who IMO was responsible for making Saban at least a "mediocre" pro HC was our OC. Not a bad foundation to build on. And a successful Rodgers earlier than later would have meant first a Cameron who would know how to develop him and no Henning anywhere down road

...So then you're no doubt happy with the Long pick right, since the same can be asserted for Ryan -who's generally not considered to be in Rodgers select small group of NFL elites???

I can't believe we didn't draft Tom Brady...

Great apples to oranges comparison!

If you can necrobump a post where anyone on the planet (not related to Tom Brady) believed that he'd be a franchise QB and worthy of a #2 overall pick, then I would love to see that.

There's a huge difference between the two. One was a player that no one, not even the very-lucky-with-that-pick Patriots, saw coming, hence he was a once in a generation 6th round QB hall of famer. The other is a guy that a plethora of simple fans could see would develop into a build-your-team-around QB, but the experts didn't agree... and it's been a haunting oversight thus far.

Anyways, you and several others are missing the simple point: it's ok for fans to question these front office decisions. Posters that come into every thread and tell other fans 'they know better than you pal', should STFU. Of course the experts know more... but that doesn't mean a fan can't see something that they don't.

Wow what a sad thread. IMO, Rodgers is the best young QB in the league(not that he'd be that in Miami, with the boneheads we've had in charge).

My theory(hindsight being 20/20) is that Saban had a foot out the door the second he took the Dolphins job. He was looking to put together a winner as quickly as he possibly could so he could ride out of town a hero. That wasn't going to happen by drafting, grooming, and having to battle growing pains with a young QB. Saban ****ed in just SO many ways in his 2 years.

great theories everyone, but did anyone consider that maybe we didn't draft a-rod because he was a tedford quarterback??

Like the fans that knew Culpepper was a horrible decision. Saban made some terrible calls.

Between January and the 2005 draft that seemed to be about the only argument against Rodgers. That and he was 6' 2'' instead of 6' 3''. I guess if some Tedford QB's fail it means they're all destined to, right?

Both reasons were silly to ignore what he did bring to the table (unbelievable accuracy, great confidence, good leader, above average arm). Many fans saw that w/o hindsight. When posters back then came in and told Rodgers supporters to be quiet because Saban knew more than they did, they were out of place. A quality opinion is worth hearing, regardless of the source.

Would that be the same river that flows through Point Ryan?:d-day:

Seriously anyone who has more of a problem with Jake as the "consolation prize" than Ronnie, needs to take a step back and then STFU.

Yes, but the rodgers river is only a stream compared to Point Ryan.. Also, Point Ryan is the porn capital for alot of finheaven members. You can see said members pleasuring themselves to videos of Ryan throwing passes, walking on the sidelines, calling plays, etc...

Part of Rodgers success stems from the years spent backing up Favre. We can recruit or draft talent, but the most concerning part is the failure to develop the talent. Even if we draft a sensational QB prospect there is no guarantee that we have the coaches or the system to develop him into a top flight QB.
New England's truly great success is in taking low round draft picks like Brady (6th rounder - Michigan backup QB) and Cassell (7th rounder - USC backup QB) and developing them into the best.

ehhh...i wasn't here in 2005 to know who said what or how much many people on here wanted aaron rodgers and when i did watch rodgers at cal i didn't think he warranted a top 5 pick...that being said ronnie brown was a pretty darn good looking prospect who because he shared carries with cadillac williams at auburn didn't have a lot of wear on the tires and when he floated that eye popping low 4.4's i think it was 40 time at that size his stock went thru the roof just like any guy with that size who could run that well would...just a few years prior the colts had taken edgerrin james with a top 5 pick and who here thinks they regret that???

anyways...ronnie browns career got derailed by injuries...it happens...and i know going into that draft that i would have taken ronnie at #2 also...

as for aaron rodgers once he cut that awful looking mullet off he sported for a few years there his play picked up...lol
